Designed by partner Jean Denoyer, Orsay strikes that difficult balance of sophisticated-chic in a warm convivial atmosphere. Dark mahogany raised paneled walls meet Art Nouveau styled arches in a deep, creamy butter color. The floor is a work of art, Italian mosaic tiles in warm tones of precious metals hand laid in a beautiful fan pattern that floats in waves across the expanse of floor. Banquettes with high wood backs topped with frosted glass panels provide privacy if wanted, and the low, soft lighting emanates from Art Nouveau period chandeliers that Denoyer had custom designed. A 20-foot long zinc-topped wood bar shipped in one piece from France, and French doors that spill onto the sidewalk terrace, completing the feeling that you are in the 9th arrondisement in Paris. This sophisticated and elegant Parisian-style brasserie marries modern French cuisine and classic brasserie fare. Orsay's award-winning wine list includes all 300 predominantly French and American varietals.

Orsay Ratings and Reviews
Loved dining at Orsay for brunch. Was spending a special weekend in Manhattan with a friend and researched the restaurant on line. Wanted to be on the Upper Eastside on Sunday morning, and we couldn’t have been happier. Great Eggs Benedict and wonderful selection of food, professional polite service, fantastic ambience. Worth going - all the way from Seattle.
Love Orsay. Feels like Paris in NYC or as close as you can get. Fabulous French Classics like Escargot, Frisee Lardon, Steak Frites, Moules, but wonderul Oysters, Salmon and the best Daily specials. Love the staff. Highly recommend. Upper Eastside neighborhood gem.
I love Orsay as it always feel special to dine there. This time I enjoyed the salmon tartare Japonais and it was delicious. Their famous cheese souffle on the other hand seemed a bit over done and a bit dry inside and the outside was quite leathery and unappetizing to me. I am sure this was just an oversight and I will order it again sometime again I'm sure. I highly reccommend this restaurant for its food and excellent service.
i cannot give this restaurant enough accolades. I love it. come for any and every event. They care from the moment they find you a seat to the moment you leave the restaurant. The food is fabulous and the wine list great. Everything is tops!!
This restaurant has delicious, traditional French cuisine, which is served by a good-natured, attentive, but not servile staff with great efficiency. It's my favorite of upper east side restaurants and is also very good for private events.
usually come here for the steak. they didn't get either temperatures right the first time (both undercooked) and when we sent them back they both came back way over cooked and burnt on the outside. not the friendliest and very skimpy with their butter to bread ratio.
disappointed regular customer. please listen to the specifics of the order. we told them at least 3 times how we each wanted our steak cooked.
Orsay is a neighborhood favorite , reliably good food, & charming ambiance. A French bistro that isn’t too too fancy, but a good place to take out of town guests or to meet friends or just for the two of us. Weather permitting we enjoy eating outside. The service is always attentive. We love Orsay!
Another excellent meal at Orsay. We love the steak tartare there, and it was great again as was the wonderful rose wine! The staff is very friendly and accommodating. We sat outside on a FABULOUS, SUNNY late summer day, one of the best 10 of the year!!! We obviously didn't rush out!!!
Note to Open Table: we have been making reservations through your service for years and LOVE it; never had an issue. We received a confirmation for this reservation as we always do. The hostess at Orsay said they did not have our reservation but, of course. accommodated us immedidately when I showed the confirmation on my phone. This has never happened to us before, and we don't believe this is your problem but the restaurant's. However, we wanted you to know. Thank you.
Whatever the occasion--a special celebration, a friend's get-together, or business- Orsay is the perfect destination. As always the restaurant had nary an unoccupied seat. We were two ladies taking up space and time, lingering over a couple of Sancerres apiece, salmon ceviche starters and small mesclun salads. The service was impeccable, no one rushed us, you would have thought we had ordered up an elaborate meal. We have already planned to return, next time for one of Orsay's sumptuous, multi-course dinners.
I first encountered Orsay some years ago, and hoped to revisit it on a future trip to NYC. We did that, and I like the food & the art nouveau décor. Waitstaff are very pleasant and courteous. Unfortunately we were near a noisy group of self-entitled NYC women on this last visit. But it would not really have been quieter inside. Hard to hold a conversation.
