French
Designed by partner Jean Denoyer, Orsay strikes that difficult balance of sophisticated-chic in a warm convivial atmosphere. Dark mahogany raised paneled walls meet Art Nouveau styled arches in a deep, creamy butter color. The floor is a work of art, Italian mosaic tiles in warm tones of precious metals hand laid in a beautiful fan pattern that floats in waves across the expanse of floor. Banquettes with high wood backs topped with frosted glass panels provide privacy if wanted, and the low, soft lighting emanates from Art Nouveau period chandeliers that Denoyer had custom designed. A 20-foot long zinc-topped wood bar shipped in one piece from France, and French doors that spill onto the sidewalk terrace, completing the feeling that you are in the 9th arrondisement in Paris. This sophisticated and elegant Parisian-style brasserie marries modern French cuisine and classic brasserie fare. Orsay's award-winning wine list includes all 300 predominantly French and American varietals.

Excellent service in French tradition. We had Dorado cooked to perfection- moist and flavorful with crispy skin.

The food here was fantastic. My waiter was lovely BUT-TOO BUSY TO Give the service we deserved for the price of the food. I would recommend to go at a less busy time- if there is one.

I had a wonderful lunch dining experience at Orsay yesterday. The ambience is warm and welcoming, and the service staff is most attentive and accommodating. The food is stupendous! I highly recommend Orsay to anyone who enjoys dining in a lovely, quiet place with fantastic French fare.

Classic French Bistro. The food was very good, if not inspired and it was a bit pricey. Definitely worth a try.

Excellent food and service. Started with jumbo shrimp. Shared 7. Delicious. Then steak frites (prepared perfectly) and roast chicken. Finally shared profiteroles. Had a bottle of Macon Villages. Or say has the feel of a French Brasserie. Highly recommended

For a neighborhood bite with nice atmosphere, it is a safe choice...however, the service can be spotty and some servers/table "attendants" have attitude, which is never a good thing in a service business.

Every time we appear at this restaurant, they try to seat us way in the back or in the bar area. This occurs even when no one is seated in the front. I have started to have ego issues. Since we eat out 4 nights a week, this restaurant was perfect for our needs, but I give up. I am headed (no pun intended) to a hair stylist hoping that a new hairstyle might make me acceptable to our next restaurant.

Highly overrated.
Prices are way to high for the inferior quality of the food, terrible service--very slow--nery noisy.
Very little attention to trying to please the customer. Only good thing is it is a neighborhood
restaurant. SZkip going.

We were shoved in the side corner- they put more tables that could fit. The wait staff was entirely hassled and didnt even have time to answer questions. My mom's steak was supposed to be med-rare and was completely tough, a part of it was inedible. I got the steak tartare and they didnt serve it with any bread. I had to wait 20 mins to get a waiters attach for them to bring it.

Orsay did a wonderful job with their Mother's Day Brunch. Despite being very busy with non-stop reservations, we were seated on time, & service was very good. The menu choices were lovely - something for everyone, & everyone was happy with their choices. All things considered on the busiest restaurant day, Orsay did an excellent job!

It was a good experience overall. The ambience was nice, the food was great and the wine was delicious. We all had a great time.

What we had ordered: The foie gras was great, the cheese platter was tasty, and the coq au vin and lamb entrees were delicious. My companions were not as impressed by their steak and fries entrees (perhaps the presentation was not as ostentatious as the coq au vin or lamb), but they still enjoyed the food otherwise. The profiteroles were sumptuous and a perfect pairing to the post-meal tea and coffee.

However, one concern I had was that we were seated against the wall past another row of tables so waiters tended to overlook us at first if we had concerns. They were slow to take our order at first and we were overlooked for bread initially (I was so hungry, it was all I could focus on at the time lol). However, the restaurant was extremely busy and we were eventually taken care of with grace.

Overall, I would definitely come back - I think this has been one of the most enjoyable French restaurants I've been to in NYC.

The waiter was not friendly - seemed angry, especially when he submitted the wrong order and had to take the food back and re-order. Then the steak was terribly overcooked to the point you could not even chew it. I was so disappointed in Orsay - I have been there many, many times and was always my restaurant of choice for taking visitors and for special events. There last NY Eve. It seems they are trying to squeeze in too many tables and very crowded. Waiters seem to have difficulty understanding English or just did not want to communicate with the guests - and always frowning. What a disappointment.... we will not be back.

The overall ideal was great for a bistro setting. We were told that lots of pieces were imported from France for putting together the vibe of being a French bistro. Overall, the good was just fine, not great ! The staff was very friendly but not outstanding. We felt that it might pass the test for the Upper East-siders but sorry to say for the downtown folks..... it rather felt short.

Overpriced, not delicious, and our cocktails were ridiculously expensive with no warning. Prices are on a separate menu that is kept from the diner but then brought out to prove the silly price is correct. My friend ordered Prosecco and was brought some cheap champagne which she had to send back. My manhattan was the price of an entire meal! I will never return to this place and others must feel the same because there were many empty tables at 7:30.

Bustling at lunchtime with an UES crowd. Well executed brasserie dishes. One of the few remaining french places still offering duck a l’orange done the classical way. Their Pavlova is a thing of beauty to see and taste. Loud.
