Orsa & Winston
We were late but were made very welcome. Excellent good value menu and wine pairings. Informed, polite and responsive service.
The decor and ambiance of the restaurant was nice and romantic. The food was great, the porridge definitely stood out. Would ideally come back to try the full course meal next time.
Porchetta alla Kakuni: First and foremost, the plating presentation is beautiful. Consisting of porchetta (slow simmered pork belly cooked in shoyu [soy sauce] and black sugar), ume koshihikari rice (short grained rice), shoyu egg, assorted vegetables and topped with sesame, strips of nori and edible flowers. As for the taste, it was delicious. A tiny pork rice bowl that packs a flavorful punch. The porchetta itself was succulent, meaty and didn't tasted greasy at all. However, I wished the pieces was a little bigger, especially, since this protein dish is the main star and namesake of the dish. Luckily, the shoyu egg came to the rescue. Turns out, I actually preferred the shoyu egg more than the porchetta. The soft-boiled egg was fantastic, especially, when breaking it apart and letting the yolk ooze all over the ume koshihikari rice and mixing it up together, yum! The assorted veggies (cauliflower, snap peas, daikon, yellow and green squashes) provided that healthy dose of greens to compliment the proteins. Topped with sesame and edible flowers to finalize the beautiful plating presentation. Would I get this dish again? For DineLA, yes. However, for a regular $19 dish, probably not because of the preview that I got with the porchetta size.
Sudachi Tart: A small dessert that also packs a powerful, sweet punch. The sudachi (lime juice) flavor was light and aromatic. The tart itself was sweet, creamy and melts-in-your-perfection. The crust on the bottom was nutty and crunchy (I detected chocolate and toffee). Topped with a generous dollop of light and fluffy whipped cream, little white chocolate balls and edible flowers, yum!
Here for a birthday and the food was fantastic. Service was impeccable as well.
An outstanding dining experience. Comfortable, intimate ambience. Inventive cuisine, fresh and utterly delicious. Go with the wine pairing!
Great food. Nice vibe. Friendly service.
Unique dishes impeccably prepared and gorgeously presented with a caring wait staff. Bravo!
Great tasting menu with the option to add on a smaller dish to share, as well as a wine pairing that complemented each course. The ambiance was very cozy but not cramped. The noise was louder than expected but it is a small space that didn’t take away from the overall experience.
Wow...such vibrant, energetic and delicious flavours that were phenomenal. My husband "wow"ed and "mmmm"ed throughout each course. The Japanese influence was apparent in both taste and plating. The atmoshphere and staff were approachable, relaxed and professional; our water was constantly being refilled. And for those of you who Yelp, you can toss those sub-four star reviews out the window; this place is a solid four+ stars. If you're even just thinking about dining here @ O&W, just make your res and GO!
Orsa & Winston is the best dinner in town by every metric. The menu is constantly changing/evolving but consistently exciting, delicious and full of surprises. Front of house is perfect too.
This is a necessary restaurant for anyone who wants a memorable meal in Los Angeles. If any restaurant in the city deserved a Michelin star, this is it, and, in real terms, it's a bargain of sorts. As Jonathan Gold wrote, Josef Centno's food "tastes like Los Angeles," and at least one course on the tasting menu will be something you've never had before.
I’m really disappointed that they didn’t study wine matching. Pairing.. food and wine doesn’t match at all.
Not recommended wine pairing menu.
Second, after the dinner i went to toilet 5 times. I guess something is wrong in food.
Third, i love to have experience drinks from overseas. But not from Fukushima Japan... still high radioactive region making Sake and they put in the menu “this sake from Fukushima” are you serious?
Amazing chicken sandwich & soufflé pancakes for brunch! Can’t wait to go back for dinner!
Absolutely fantastic meal. The food combinations were innovative and delicious. The chef was accommodating as to food allergies or dislikes. The service was fabulous, friendly, and interesting. We will come back regularly.
Wonderful service staff & an excellent meal!
It was wonderful - from the first moment to the end - what a find! The cuisine was so delicate and yet powerful, and the service was so professional and yet friendly. Our server Craig (I hope I have his correct name) was so nice and accommodating, and all others so comfortably dedicated. We will definitely return - over and over again. Thank you!
My favorite meal in LA.
We LOVE it here, and are so happy about their Michelin star! Michael the manager is fabulous, as is all their staff.
It was my boyfriend and my first date, and he had never experienced a tasting. He thought the food was fresh, different and delicious. The ambiance was fantastic, and our date was magical. Thank you !
chefs menu was delicious. great service. unique flavors.
The tasting menu is amazing. Worth the money. A great little find in towntown LA.
Tasty food, but very small volume. If you are going to come, be sure you eat before or plan to eat after. I walked over to Grand Central Market after. Also no full bar, so I also coudn't have a cocktail.
Best brunch and meal of my entire trip. We had the Japanese omakase breakfast and everything we had was amazing. Everything paired together well, the rice is well seasoned and the uni on top elevated the whole dish and made the meal so worth the price. This is my new favorite restaurant
The food was really, really good; smallish plates, high quality ingredients, well prepared and excellent service. The food was also imaginative, with nuanced tastes/flavors. I don't know why the web sites said Italian Japanese; it has elements of Japanese, but I would call this Calif. Fusion food, and very good at that.
It is a special treat dining at Orsa & Winston. The amazing food is beautifully prepared and enhanced by optional carefully selected wine pairings served with each course of the prix-fixe tasting menu. You now have the option of dining a la carte from the Snacks menu, or adding to the 5 course meal. The proficient staff greets you warmly when you arrive and makes the entire dining experience relaxing and enjoyable - they also remember you when you return. This intimate restaurant has an upscale but casual vibe and consistently delivers an outstanding dining experience.
Amazing meal and service!
Food are wonderful. Great for date night.
Fun Mother’s Day tasting lunch. Excellent wine pairings.
We went with our friends last Sunday for Mother’s Day brunch. they have a table next to our friends but don’t allow us to sat with them even thought nobody sit there till we left. Also the food was a little bit different than our friends even though we ordered the same kinds of brunch!! So disappointed.
It’s a small, intimate space and the service and food were lovely. Thoroughly enjoyed my experience here and can’t wait to go back!
The service was good, although the pace at which the tasting menu came out was a bit fast. We hadn’t finished our paired wine before the next glass was poured. Felt a bit rushed. Having said that, the staff was pleasant and attentive. The food was good and the paired wine was great.
Great creative cuisine, with fresh ingredient great service
Went for a bday celebration and our expectations were far exceeded. The food and service were incredible. They were delightfully accommodating of my dietary restrictions and couldn't have asked for a better meal. The place is beautiful and was overall a beautiful night. Highly recommend!!
L.A. prices, so not necessarily overpriced in relation to other local restaurants but the tasting menu alone isn’t a lot of food without additional a la carte items. Very interesting and offbeat natural wine selection with some real gems.
One of the reasons that LA is the culinary capitol for the US!
Delicious food, wonderful ambiance
Fantastic choices in the tasting menu with wonderful wine pairings. Thank you so much for an excellent dining experience!
It is delicious food and strongly recommend.
The tasting menu is the best buy in LA since Spring closed. The snack of rice spagghetini was a wonderful extra. Wines are affordable. Service was courteous and informative.
