Ornella Trattoria Italiana Ratings and Reviews
We are not strangers to Ornella Trattoria Italiana, and made a last minute reservation for family that was visiting. Normally service is really quick, but admittedly this was a busy Saturday night. Food was good and all servers/greeters were very friendly. Family left stuffed!
We had a great business dinner here, it is only 10 min from the LGA Airport. Why sit in traffic when you can enjoy terrific food and Wine?
The staff treated us like family and there are numerous food options, plus homemade pasta and also Home-cured meats too.
Absolutely worth a visit and Astoria is a lovely neighborhood too.
Hortible. First went to Ornella trattoria 5 yrs ago, it was very good. Went back 9/16/17 notice they are no longer a tazble cloth restaurant, they replaced the swordfish dish w/codfish, the service was mediocre at best, my husbands frutti di'mare was served cold, after 2 bites of my salmon the remainder was RARE. Would never return and mostt definitely never recommend.
This the sixth time I have been here in the last six months, and everytime it gets better. We went for dinner, me and my wife and another couple, we started off with two appetizers, burrata and onions , the burrata is soft and creamy delicious. We also had the cured meat platter which comes with a onion jam and sweet chili jam and three cured meats, Giuseppe has a farm upstate where he cures his own meats and wow , best prosciutto ever had. For entrees we had four pasta dishes all were delicious. At the end of the night Giuseppe sent over free dessert to our table!! I cant say enough what a wonderful man and his son are running this restaurant, they truly cant do enough for you. Cant wait to go back!!
First time for dinner at Ornella. The dinning room is long and cozy. Our server was very friendly, informative about the menu and very attentive. The pasta was great, the veal parm was over cooked and leathery. We started with the meat and cheese player and it was fantastic. I would come back and stick with pasta dishes and frankly because the service was great!
Searching for place in Astoria that had an interesting menu and was informal . Food choices were excellent , particularly the specials . Had burrata with mushrooms that was off the hook . Service was attentive and friendly . Highlight of night was using men's room where owner posted negative reviews and his responses ! Simply hilarious and spot in. Owner is incredibly friendly and really takes enormous pride in his family run restaurant . If you're in Astoria I highly recommend you go eat there . Also great value for your buck!
My fiancé and I came here to celebrate our engagement.
We were given a free glass of champagne each and when the wine we ordered was not up to our taste we were given a replacement without any issue.
Well run place - great food - friendly and professional staff.
Really wonderful experience - from the food to the personal touch of the owner giving you the seats and asking how your meal is - I would suggest this place to anyone who loves Astoria with their authentic and fun restaurants. Really large portions as a word of warning, leading the excellent left overs. Also: sharing is crucial if I went back. I had the "envelope" pasta and my companions had the mushroom risotto and the Bolognese pasta. Everything was flavorful, not oily or over salted, and the pasta is made in house (!). The salami board was great and featured meats that they make in their own farm in Monticello! Outstanding. I had been wanting to go forever and I was not disappointed.
It was Valentines Day, so my lady and I both went for a Romantic dinner to this Ornella's. We've been to Italy several times and read reviews of how greatly authentic the food is at this restaurant. Well, we can now confirm that it lived up to the hype. The food was amazing!!!
We hope to try every pasta dish on that menu!
What a wonderful surprise. I randomly chose this restaurant based upon the OpenTable reviews and is was terrific. Duck meatballs had such an unusual texture but so tasty. The fresh pasta was perfect. The veal with lemon and artichoke was amazing and the chicken scarp was in a delicious sauce (and I hate sauces directly on my food) The waiter was so helpful and the owner so personable. Highly recommend this restaurant. I will be back!
We've been to Ornella several times. This time it was not up to par. My shrimp dish came out ice cold and it was just okay, nothing great. Friends had the duck meatballs and they were so hard and overly crisped that they were difficult to cut. We'll go back and hopefully find the Ornella we always liked.
Always feel welcome dining at Ornella Trattoria. Giuseppe and staff are great hosts. The menu is full of staple and innovative dishes. Outstanding - pasta made from chestnut flour, the cavatelli vodka and linguini with vongole/clams. Try to engage the owner, Giuseppe Viterale, in conversation and you will learn something about Italian cuisine, cooking and ingredients. This is casual dining where you leave having enjoyed something very special and delicious.
We lucked out finding this GEM as we volunteered to give up our airline seats and stay a the Marriott LGA. A quick 3 mile Uber drive and we met friends for an impromptu dinner. The entire menu was extraordinary - so much so that their 16 yr old ordered pasta for dessert. Fusilli al Pistacchio, Pasta di Castagna, Imbustata, and Short Ribs (fell OFF the bone delicious) graced our table and the "house" chianti-blend was delightful. Dessert of Tiramisu, cheesecake and tartufo were a fine ending to this delicious meal. DON'T wait until you have to be near LGA - this is worth going out of your way. YUM!
