Ornella Trattoria Italiana
Our diverse menu shows our emotional attachment to the many dishes our families have served for years.
Our mission statement at "Ornella Trattoria Italiana" is to put as much passion in serving the public as we do our own family. We are committed to using the finest organic ingredients in all our recipes.
And as we say at our house : "Tutti a tavola prima che si fa fredda la pasta"
Wonderful dinner celebrating my in-laws 40th anniversary!
Likely some of the best and most authentic Italian food I've had in New York and definitely in Astoria. Service is hit or miss sometimes but the food always makes up for it!
Was recommended to come here by a coworker. Amazing food
There was no one in the restaurant when we arrived but we did not receive out food until one hour later. One of the dishes was cold.
We were a party of six. Every one of us enjoyed our meal. Staff friendly and very personable. Will return.
Such a nice restaurant. Family run and it shows from the moment you are greeted at the front door till the moment they all say thank you and goodbye as you leave. All of our party of five loved their meal and appetizers. I had the Steak Pizzaiola and it was so good, perfect in every way. With all our dinning choices in Astoria we picked the right place.
Wonderful food, wonderful service, great all around restaurant
Small, friendly place in the heart of Astoria. Some of the best Italian food I've had anywhere, including Italy. Prices are reasonable, portions are generous. Service was excellent, attentive and polite. Will definitely be going back. Only issue is that parking is difficult, but the subway station is right on the corner.
Our meal at Ornella Trattoria was fantastic. They have a regular menu with a very large number of choices plus an entire extra page of specials. The Risotto Carbonara from the special menu was particularly good, as was the Pappardelle with Pork. The bread was also particularly good along with the delicious olive oil to dip it in!
I felt we were back in Italy
I walked into this quaint little restaurant that was surprisingly pleasing on the senses. The reception was friendly, as the waiter led us to our seats. The manager greeted us as well and had a quick conversation. The menu was given to us and it is a bit extensive (with no pictures), but don't let it dissuade you. I got the duck meatballs, and be prepared, as it is filling for an appetizer. There are only two meatballs, but it is a good starter for a group (plus something different to try). The fried calamari is very light and tasty. All the pasta entrees ordered were very generous portions for the price you pay. The flavors are on point and everyone enjoyed the dishes they ordered. Most of us took our meals to go, due to the generous portion size. The wait staff and manager checked on us a few times and the manager provided some interesting tidbits that helped guide us in ordering what would fit our tastes which helped in breaking down the menu. The dessert was tasty as we had the tartuffo which was a nice ending to the meal. We were also given a nice parting shot of housemade Limoncello, which was nice and smooth going down. An excellent end to a nice evening. I will definitely return to this restaurant in the future as it is a good place to enjoy a group meal for any special occasion.
Great food and service! Looking forward to coming back on every New York trip!
Such a lovely experience! Took my boyfriend here (who's a vegetarian) and my parents (who are carnivores) and they all loved the food. The service was very personal and intimate without being overbearing. This is definitely a neighborhood gem and I will be returning soon!
As always everything was wonderful. Staff is terrific ! Love this place.
THE BEST, as always. Our tippy top favorite spot!
I had the veal and artichokes, very tender. My daughters had the pasta both enjoyed. The asparagus appetizer was outstanding. Friendly waiter, we will be back.
Oh my dearest. It was the nicest meal I've had in queens yet. The restaurant was quiet on a Tuesday night so we got very personalized service from the waiter. The food came out 100% perfect. We weren't rushed out at the end and were allowed to sit and digest and chat. It was a great ambiance.
My favorite restaurant in New York since it opened in 2009. Never had a less than spectacular meal Giussepe, his sons and staff are all masters of their trade.
Wish I lived closer!
Not all its made out to be. Not worth it. Expected way better food, or at least decent food.
This is a cute and cozy little place. The menu brings to mind a somewhat different and maybe more authentic or home made cuisine. We were very excited to try some of the items. We ordered the chestnut pasta with a pistachio cream sauce. It was interesting. We had a hankering for veal parmigiana (I know, so common!) and it was so tough I could barely cut through the veal (completely serious). We sent it back and they brought us a chicken version. It was okay but nothing to rave over. The broccoli rabe was very good. Solid tiramisu. I don't know if this review will end up on the bathroom wall like the others..maybe mine isn't so bad!!!
I was browsing through restaurants in Astoria and this came up as good and not super expensive. My family and I walked past the door a few times but once you come in it is warm and inviting. The service is excellent and the portions are huge. I ordered a spaghetti and meatballs, while my parents ordered pasta with black garlic. All of us had enough leftover for another meal. All in all, a wonderful neighborhood restaurant with great food.
It was my wife’s birthday dinner. Shes been wanting to go there (unbeknownst to me) and tells me after she saw the open table reservation. Lol. Experience was really good. Food was amazing. Service was very good. Great wine selection (and generous pours) :-) the staff gave us a complimentary tiramisu piece of cake for my wife’s birthday on the house. Very nice and thoughtful.
Overall my wife and I would go back there again. It’s on the return list !
I think we got them on a bad day. That's the only reason I can come up with for the rave reviews. Service was slow (there were about a dozen people in the place so not too busy), dirty plates were not cleared away until the next course was served, and the food was so-so. We had the risotto special, chicken cordon bleu and seafood platter. I was told that the chicken and the seafood were outstanding. Can't say the same for the risotto which was sitting in water on my plate. I'm willing to give this place another chance based on the other reviews though. Hopefully, we'll get them on a better day.
Food was excellent service was excellent go back in a minute
Excellent food and service. I will come back.
Great meal as always. Did have to wait a few minutes for a table. But my overall experience was great !!
Forgot to post this back in February!!
What a great place to stumble across. We walked by for lunch and a business owner next door told us it was only open for dinner. He highly recommended Ornella and rightfully so!
I got the lasagna bolognese and my partner got the linguine di frutti di mare! The service was awesome and the food was phenomenal! The owner/chef was attentive and walking to the tables. Made us feel like family! Thank you again!
A real neighborhood gem. Great food, great service and reasonable prices. Perfect combination.
Great family-run Italian restaurant in the Ditmars area of Queens. Space was cozy and the food and service was fantastic. The owner, Giuseppe, made sure we were well taken care of and stopped by our table on a few occasions to make sure everything was to our liking. Also got to meet his son Gio that helps run the business, along with another one of his sons. If you can't make it to the restaurant you can also order through seamless. Would definitely go back for another dinner date with my wife. Good people and service all around. Portions were big and prices were reasonable. Check this place out if you are looking for a good authentic Italian meal.
This is our fourth time at Ornella. I love trying new dishes each time I go there. The owner is cordial, the waitstaff attentive. Overall, I love it!
A wonderful New Years Eve dinner with friends! Food was amazing as always.
Great service, incredible food, cozy dining room
The food was absolutely delicious and the staff were a pleasure. I’ll eat here every time I’m in the area and will recommend to everyone. What a great place.
We requested handicap seating on our reservation which was not acknowledged. Food was very salty. Would not be returning.
My husband and I have been going to Ornella’s for years and enjoy coming back every year and for special occasions. Today, we celebrated our wedding anniversary at Ornella’s. Joe the owner is wonderful. He greeted us and checked up on us. The waiters are very pleasant. The food is delicious. Words cannot describe how great the food is. My husband and I highly recommend Ornella’s.
Not your average restaurant. Chestnut and pistachio sauces are divine. Calamari and burrata were fabulous. Our Italian nephew (who grows chestnuts) gave it a huge thumbs up. We shall return.
Delicious as usual! Friendly staff. Definitely coming back soon!
I went to Ornella for dinner with my wife and was expecting for a warm meal. Overall shrimp pasta came out lukewarm at best and with a total of three shrimps. "Cappuccino coffee" was more a water-down regular coffee [instead of espresso] with cinnamon.. milk was not even frothed.. disappointed
We have been regulars at Ornella for the past two years. It is our go-to place in the neighborhood for everything from a date night for the two of us, special occasions, and our favorite spot to show off Astoria when we have guests. Giuseppe and his sons are remarkable. They treat us like family and we love them.
Had some of the best spaghetti and meatballs the other evening out with friends. Everyone loved their dishes. Will definitely be heading back!
