Special request for an outside table. Others had reserved signs on them but they did not have one available for our party, so we went elsewhere. I do love this restaurant, just couldn’t justify dropping over $100 after arriving annoyed from the start.

Wasn’t too impressed! Service was so rushed and impersonal. I ordered the sole piccata and my plate was in front of me less than 5 min later... clearly not freshly made! Very disappointed. Would not go again.

One of the best restaurants in SF for great Italian food. Service is very good too. All the dishes are served piping hot and delicious. Busy and bustling, but not overly crazy; Staff seems to be able to handle it well. Fun atmosphere. Plates and pasta bowls are piled high with fresh, rich-flavored ingredients and sauces. Large portions. All around fantastic.

Perfection in every way. Took a couple of elderly out-of-town visitors to give them a flavor of North Beach and comfort food from my childhood. Had the braised short ribs, carbonara and pesto. Absolutely delicious. The short ribs were flavorful and tender and came with all dente vegetables and mashed potato. The carbonara and pesto pastas were spot on. Even the bread was great; soft and moist on the inside, with a chewy crust. Service was friendly and impeccable. They were also nice to give us the both with a clear view of the open kitchen. Also, valet parking which was very convenient for my elderly out-of town guests.

Comment from my visitor to his wife, after surveying the kitchen operation and the customers at the counter was that this place must know what they doing and is good because they have regular customers.

We were actually a table of 4. My Husband and I were treating our Grandson and Girlfriend from Boston to dinner after seeing Beach Blanket. It was our first time at Original Joes recommended by friends. We will certainly go back.

Love it. The Ramos Fizzes on the weekends are excellent. I do enjoy that it's not a 100% egg brunch menu.

Good stand-by restaurant that delivers value for price at every meal. Tuesday lunch on a non-holiday week was crowded for our 11:45 reservation, and loud. However service was fine - love the waiters in black suits - and the food very good with ample servings for our appetites. Three of our foursome had take away for the next day.

Dinner was so delicious! The portion size is large and we could have shared. The flat iron steak, chicken Marsala, pork chop and shrimp scampi were all so delicious! The tiramisu was the best we have ever had. We will definitely return on our next visit from Florida.

Great restaurant and food. Our waitress, Monica, was very nice and welcoming. Plates were big and we were really satisfied and happy with our meal. They had screen so we could watch the SuperBowl that was something extra we didn't expect.

Showed up at 2:30 on a Saturday and could only eat from their brunch menu until 5:00. Food was dry and tasteless. Got right in without many people in the restaurant and still waited 45 min to get out food. Poor decision on my part eating there. Won’t do that again.

The Caesar salad was good. Calamari were good. Hamburger was ok, and Joe’s Special, their signature dish was terrible! The spinach was bitter, there was hardly any egg and it tasted burnt. I’ve made Joe’s Special at home so much better. Not planning on ever returning.

Joe's has proven to be a real hit or miss experience. I took a friend for their first visit and they were underwhelmed. It was loud, packed, and the food was just ok. The service was just ok. Not worth the drive across town. I have been here on weekends for late lunches, when it is not packed, and the food is excellent, the service is excellent, and the price was worth it.

Ambiance, food and service were outstanding! We had a drink in the bar. Great drinks and the server was friendly. The hostess actually came and told us our table was ready. Food was great, as always, and service was first rate.

My girlfriends & I were in San Francisco to celebrate our birthdays. I picked Original Joe's because I previously had been there before on several occasions. Food is delicious and service was very good. However, this time although the food was still good we had to send our side dishes back because they were very cold! We also ordered a dessert for our birthdays thinking that something might come complimentary. The dessert was very good although expensive. Overall, in spite of it all, it was a very good experience. Another criticism...very noisy!

I love Joe's! I've been coming here since I was a child, but until Friday I hadn't been back in about two years. Great food, cool restaurant, awesome service. However--It used to be a place where people dressed up to dine, as it is a classy, old-San Francisco establishment. It's also not exactly a cheap meal and the wait staff is dressed impeccably. When I went on Friday, I was in a dinner dress and my date wore a button-down. I only saw one other couple there also dressed nicely. Everyone else seemed excessively casual(i.e. flip flops, Hawaiian shirts and athletic wear)...seemed like a very touristy crowd.

That being said, I love Joe's and can't wait to go back. It's a super cool restaurant with great food and drinks. Also, kudos to the wait staff. They're a great team!

Lunch at Original Joe’s was a delight with friendly long time waiters Nicky and Sergio. My friend enjoyed the orecchiette with Italian sausage and broccoli rabe. I had a “cup” of minestrone that was chock full of veggies and pasta along with a delicious side of meatballs. My friend suggested the Warm Butter Cake. It was oh so good and enough for four, but of course we made do. All in all, comfort food by a great classic family-owned restaurant that upholds the traditions of “Little Italy” North Beach.

Met up with friends here for dinner. The service was excellent, our drinks were perfect and the food was very good. We enjoyed salads, good pasta with clams, lasagna and the grilled salmon. We had a comfortable booth, we were able to carry on a conversation without having to shout (and tables are not close together so no risk of eavesdropping by nosy dining neighbors) and our server was attentive without being intrusive.

We were looking for a comfortable spot with nice service and good food. Original Joe’s is all of that and more. We loved the big booths which where great to relax in after a long day of work. Drinks were tasty, spinach artichoke dip was delish! Loaded with veggies and cheese and just the right amount of sauce. All 4 pasta dishes were great, but the chicken Parm was our favorite. Warm butter cake for dessert with Irish coffee. Wait staff was friendly and efficient. Couldn’t ask for a nicer evening.

Made reservations for after a show, but the show ended early and we were nearly 2 hours early for our reservation. They were able to get us a table in 45 minutes which was good considering the crowd. We appreciated the phone call when the table was ready because we went for a walk in the park nearby.

My flat iron steak was excellent. The futti de mar risoto was not bad but not remarkable. The wines by the glass offered were some good choices and reasonable. Will return again.

For steaks and chops, with pasta, seafood and more, this is my fave place in San Francisco for a dinner party night out. Great North Beach location, valet, great bar scene, comfy booths, very good service. My New York Steak was perfectly medium rare, very good baked potato, good Cesar salad, cocktails as ordered, very good Chianti by the glass. Chocolate cake and ice cream with birthday candle topped off the night. Old school San Francisco in all the right ways.

Joe’s takes their reputation for granted. The plates were “tossed” on the table, the steak was raw, and the server was inattentive. I felt bad for my son who spent $130 on my birthday dinner. He’s young and poor and wanted to share something special with me.

I have always loved Original Joe's but this time I was aware of how much the prices have increased and how noisy it can be. The food is not consistent like it used to be. There has been something wrong my last 3 visits. It is still one of my favorite Italian restaurants but this visit was disappointing for me. Also, we used the Valet to park the car and it took over 20 minutes for them to retrieve our car and it was not that busy on a Sunday night.

Had a late reservation for Saturday night. We were seated immediately in one of the classic red leather booths. It has a wonderful retro vibe. Don't expect nouvelle anything. This is the Italian food I grew up on in the 60's and 70's. Outstanding Caesar salad WITH anchovies, thank you! Lightly chilled, not cold -- again, thank you! Wine was delivered a bit late, but a nice generous pour by the glass. Server was ultra-friendly, which I usually don't like, but it seemed to fit the atmosphere. Veal Parmesan -- HUGE portion. Not overly breaded and not too much cheese. The bottom was a tad overcooked, but overall it was delicious. My companions ordered fish and a large entrée salad, both of which they liked. The creamed spinach side was to die for. I would go back for the creamed spinach alone.
