Original Joe’s is the quintessential, classic San Francisco dining experience. A fabric of the City for 75 years, it is located in the heart of the historic and majestic North Beach, a mecca for natives, tourists, and culinary aficionados alike.

Original Joe’s is the oldest of all existing Joe’s restaurants in the country and is the innovator of what is now nationally known as the “Joe’s Concept”. With its signature red leather booths, legendary smooth cocktails, and renowned Italian American menu, Joe’s has come to signify its own Northern Californian category of food and symbolizes classic Italian American comfort food at its finest.

Original Joe’s is always great. The New York was outstanding the ravioli and sauce was the best. Hell even the butter for the bread was great. Can’t miss place.

This is a happenin' place in North Beach! Great food, very attentive service, good cocktails and wine list. We always enjoy our experience at Original Joe's. It was a VERY energetic crowd around 8pm on a Sunday night, so plan around busy times if you don't want to strain to hear your companions.

Another San Francisco "original" that is not to be missed. The menu is Italian...mostly. Their hamburger looked very good although I opted for the egglplant parmigiana (and was not disappointed.) Definitely get reservations. A chair at the kitchen bar is fun as is a table close to the kitchen just to watch the precision of experienced service staff make your day. This place was fun, reasonably priced, and very good. (And don't forget desert!)

Service was superlative. We ordered steak and one came medium rare rather than medium well. History of the place was a plus, but noise level was higher than we preferred.

We visited Original Joe's for my son's most recent birthday. Rose, our server, was both professional and courteous--even at the end of her shift--and the teamwork by the wait staff was admirable. As usual, the food was excellent. It was the first time that I enjoyed their lasagna and thought it was the best that I have ever had. It is hard not to have an enjoyable experience here! Go!

Having eaten at the Original Joe's before it burned down many years ago, and just eaten at the new location on Union Street, there is the same excellent food and drinks. With a party of six there is a very little wait for our table around 8:00PM and our waiter was great and the food was great and fast to our table. Great restaurant and will return again and again.

Order fettuccine Alfredo and it was a tiny portion for $20.95. The service was ok. Would like to see more for my money.

My wife and I love Original Joe’s and we try to get there two or three times a year. The food and waiter service is exceptional. Our only complaint was with a young host who was less then stellar. We arrived a half hour early and were told to check back at 6:30 when our reservation was for. We checked back twice and on the second time we were treated like we were really bugging this young man. It was too bad because we have never encountered an “attitude” at OJ. We will be back, but we hope that the host staff can be inserviced in customer care.

Special request for an outside table. Others had reserved signs on them but they did not have one available for our party, so we went elsewhere. I do love this restaurant, just couldn’t justify dropping over $100 after arriving annoyed from the start.

Wasn’t too impressed! Service was so rushed and impersonal. I ordered the sole piccata and my plate was in front of me less than 5 min later... clearly not freshly made! Very disappointed. Would not go again.

One of the best restaurants in SF for great Italian food. Service is very good too. All the dishes are served piping hot and delicious. Busy and bustling, but not overly crazy; Staff seems to be able to handle it well. Fun atmosphere. Plates and pasta bowls are piled high with fresh, rich-flavored ingredients and sauces. Large portions. All around fantastic.

Perfection in every way. Took a couple of elderly out-of-town visitors to give them a flavor of North Beach and comfort food from my childhood. Had the braised short ribs, carbonara and pesto. Absolutely delicious. The short ribs were flavorful and tender and came with all dente vegetables and mashed potato. The carbonara and pesto pastas were spot on. Even the bread was great; soft and moist on the inside, with a chewy crust. Service was friendly and impeccable. They were also nice to give us the both with a clear view of the open kitchen. Also, valet parking which was very convenient for my elderly out-of town guests.

Comment from my visitor to his wife, after surveying the kitchen operation and the customers at the counter was that this place must know what they doing and is good because they have regular customers.

We were actually a table of 4. My Husband and I were treating our Grandson and Girlfriend from Boston to dinner after seeing Beach Blanket. It was our first time at Original Joes recommended by friends. We will certainly go back.

Love it. The Ramos Fizzes on the weekends are excellent. I do enjoy that it's not a 100% egg brunch menu.

Good stand-by restaurant that delivers value for price at every meal. Tuesday lunch on a non-holiday week was crowded for our 11:45 reservation, and loud. However service was fine - love the waiters in black suits - and the food very good with ample servings for our appetites. Three of our foursome had take away for the next day.

Dinner was so delicious! The portion size is large and we could have shared. The flat iron steak, chicken Marsala, pork chop and shrimp scampi were all so delicious! The tiramisu was the best we have ever had. We will definitely return on our next visit from Florida.

Great restaurant and food. Our waitress, Monica, was very nice and welcoming. Plates were big and we were really satisfied and happy with our meal. They had screen so we could watch the SuperBowl that was something extra we didn't expect.

Showed up at 2:30 on a Saturday and could only eat from their brunch menu until 5:00. Food was dry and tasteless. Got right in without many people in the restaurant and still waited 45 min to get out food. Poor decision on my part eating there. Won’t do that again.

The Caesar salad was good. Calamari were good. Hamburger was ok, and Joe’s Special, their signature dish was terrible! The spinach was bitter, there was hardly any egg and it tasted burnt. I’ve made Joe’s Special at home so much better. Not planning on ever returning.

Joe's has proven to be a real hit or miss experience. I took a friend for their first visit and they were underwhelmed. It was loud, packed, and the food was just ok. The service was just ok. Not worth the drive across town. I have been here on weekends for late lunches, when it is not packed, and the food is excellent, the service is excellent, and the price was worth it.

Ambiance, food and service were outstanding! We had a drink in the bar. Great drinks and the server was friendly. The hostess actually came and told us our table was ready. Food was great, as always, and service was first rate.
