Oriental Tea House - Little Collins
While visiting Melbourne I wanted to take my parents somewhere a bit different for dinner. The menu looked amazing so we tried it. And we weren’t disappointed.
disappointed with the lack of communication between staff members when I booked for my function well in advance and confirmed menu and dietary requirements. It was a shame to arrive and have to repeat the information multiple times furthermore telling me one of the requests could not be facilitated despite emails to prove otherwise (was asked to have my phone given so waiter could go to the back and show the email). Also did not appreciate the seating when we could have been placed in the far corner or upstairs (group of 9 people). Disappointed that dietary requirements were not catered for, instead a bowl of mixed Asian vegetables was provided to guest and attempted to charge us for the dish despite the fact it was included in our feasting menu. No communication between waiters on the night. Comments made about how much we ate or didn’t eat. Dirty dishes were not removed from table unless asked multiple times. Unfortunate experience, won’t be attending again.
Good tea and food if you're into Western-Asian Fusion. Some nice twists on traditional dishes such as the peking duck dumplings and the Happy Tea which is a herbal Dang Shen tea. If you have Western friends who would like an easy introduction to Asian tea and food, this is a good place.
I loved the idea of the vegan night - so may vegans really miss being able to enjoy foods like yum cha, so it was a great idea. All the food we ate was absolutely amazing.
My only disappointment was that they never brought around the 3 main vegan dishes which were advertised - they filled us up on the other standard dishes, we were waiting for the beyond beef, the 'chicken' and the 'pork' which never came, they then offered the bill for us to leave. I was only told at that point we had to order that separately. We were a little annoyed as those dishes were the main draw card to the night, we ordered one of them at had to eat it quickly to leave.
The vegan night was so amazing! I would love if you did this every month so that I could bring friends and show them the plant based way can be so delicious
If ANY of those vegan dishes were on the menu full time, I'd live at Oriental Tea House!! Great food, great service and such an affordable price!
My husband and I came to Oriental teahouse for their special vegan night. My husband isn't vegan and we both thoroughly enjoyed the food. The service was quick and super friendly, and we both hope that Oriental teahouse will hole more vegan nights and consider expanding their vegan menu.
10/10, would recommend.
The service we received was absolutely incredible, it was noisy though because it was a big event - the staff went out of their way to recommend meals, repeat themselves so we could understand and make the experience one of the best dining experiences I've had. This was the first time in 6 years I was able to attend a yum cha service and I adored the opportunity. Please do more of the vegan nights!
The food was amazing, I enjoyed every dish I tried. The staff were lovely and the service was great.
The Oriental Tea House has the best dumplings in the world. Period. I wish to go back there weekly.
We love Oriental tea house. The food is always fresh and the service great. They also cater for so many individual dietary requirements. Prices are really fair for the quality and service but in the upper range for Yum Cha. Love it 👍🏼
Food was yum, loved everything! It was economical and the location was easy to find. The food served was hot, fresh and delicious. Will definitely be back ☺️
Oriental Teahouse had some of the best dumplings and buns we’ve ever had! Their teas and Cocktail/teas (Cockteas) were amazing also!
Great food and a lovely quiet venue good selection of dishes that was well explained
Great food. Had the feasting menu and enjoyed everything
If you try to elevate humble dishes then they should be better than the original. Save you money & time and go to Chinatown.
Beautiful interior and atmosphere for a group of people to dine in and enjoy the great tasting meals. Would like it if the portions of main dishes were bigger as it is a bit more expensive than most Asian restaurants however the service from waiters and waitresses were very professional.
Great service, great food, recommends dumplings for dating.
Yum Cha for a working lunch is fabulous, you just have to be open to the interruption, but it is worth it.
Dumpling deliciousness! The ginger prawn is next level mouth happiness!
Pleasant lunch but not enough variety offered in yum cha session. Would have preferred less dumplings and more protein and vegetables.
Always love this place, not just the typical pork dumplings!
Good sampling of food in the buffet. Bit slow on the a la cart menu orders.
the attempt by staff to upsell was very annoying .. the food was excellent
Great night - excellent food & service, will return.
The food was excellent and varied, the establishment gorgeous and the service great. I did feel it was a little overpriced considering most of the dishes weren't leaps and bounds ahead of other establishments. We had a great time, none the less.
Thank you for a wonderful experience of great food & service.
Waiter was most helpful in explaining the different teas & dumplings on offer !!
Food was nice but nothing amazing. Fairly average. However was happy with the price of the food, not too expensive. Drinks were expensive they cost more than our food. Very loud in there and tables were quite close together so was hard to concentrate on your own conversation. The setting of the restaurant was very nice though and good staff.
Food is great and was served quickly once we were able to get a waiters attention so we could order. The quality and taste of the yum cha items we ordered were first class. An improvement on our initial service would have got 5 stars.
Great service, super friendly.amazing food and sensational cocktails!
Love this place. Last went on a Monday night so very quiet but service was attentive nonetheless. This place is always such good value with very decent serving sizes and an excellent selection for vegetarians.
Delicious food, but a bit pricey.
Service was good.
Food was excellent, service also. Ambience a little ordinary when sitting on a busy day at a 2-person table will all that noise around. Anyway, a very pleasant experience as always.
The only disappointment is the $0.35 surcharge on an EFTPOS payment. Would understand a surcharge on a credit card payment but not on EFTPOS - other outlets do not charge this (e.g. ALDI, Chemist Warehouse). It is a minor amount but annoying, especially when the customer is unaware they will be charged this. In my case, I rounded up my bill upward to provide a gratuity to staff, only to find this additional amount being charged on top.
Quality of the food and service was good. The wait staff was attentive.
One of my favourite Melbourne restaurant. Fantastic quality dishes
Fantastic venue for a team lunch - we spent enjoyable hours together, feasting over a variety of yummy dishes that catered to everyones preferences. Beautiful cocktails, lovely ambience - we will be back again.
Great night out at the Oriental Tea House. The food was delicious and did not disappoint. The menu had a great variety with something for everyone. We especially enjoyed the Soft Shell Crab Sliders and the Singapore Chilli Barramundi. The service was impeccable and we were looked after by Apple who was very accomodating and attentive for the duration of our dinner.
Favourite dumpling place ! Staff are all very friendly and helpful
Chilli Pork Dumplings are the best I have eaten. Yum Cha is abit pricey. But food was amazing.
Yum Cha was offered frequently with a variety of dishes from which to choose. All dishes were very tasty . Ambience was very pleasant and I would certain return and recommend to friends
