Ore House - Durango Ratings and Reviews
The staff and chef were absolutely wonderful! I have eaten at the Ore House before and have always had very tasty steaks. This particular night, I was taken with the selection of vegetables and although I am not a vegetarian, I decided to have three of the items as my meal. I asked that they come on one plate even though I knew they prepared some of them in separate little dishes. What a stunning presentation they created for me. They used a huge plank and placed the three selections artistically across it. I couldn't have been more impressed with either the flavors or the visual appeal of what they did for me. They deserve major kudos for their efforts and their kindness.
Excellent food! I love the setting and it is right downtown. It is so nice to have something in Durango that hasn't faded out or been dramatically changed and ruined. The Orehouse is still the best place in Durango for fine food, and a great setting. Enjoy!
My boyfriend and I had our anniversary dinner here and noted it as such through OpenTable. When we got there, we were immediately seated and had waitstaff (Meredith!) providing water and asking if we wanted any cocktails. All the drinks came out quickly, we ordered, and within 20 minutes we had our steaks. Everything was unbelievably delicious!
As we were finishing dinner, Meredith came back and asked if we were celebrating an anniversary and gave us a complimentary dessert for the occasion. That attention to detail and customer service did not go unnoticed and it really made our anniversary dinner that much better.
10/10 would eat a cake made of bourbon again.
Reservations online easy, but necessary.
Hostess and waitstsff vey good. Drinks were good but vey expensive, same with the food...... menu items a bit overpriced, but specials were a good value. Desserts were especially tasty. Entire place was quaint, but smaller than expected. Would return, but would try other similarly priced Durango restaurants first.
We celebrate our anniversary here every year if we are in Durango and our waiter Katie helped make it special with excellent wine suggestions and attentive service. Our steaks were perfectly grilled and the giant asparagus with bearnaise was delicious. The came brute trio was the perfect end to a wonderful meal. Will we be back? You betcha!!!
I frequent the Ore House because it's a good restaurant. As with all good restaurants, when the bar is that high, it slides sometimes. I went for a Birthday Dinner, and it was just a weird energy night. The door was left open for an unnecessary late October breeze. Anyone who was waiting was just obnoxiously chattering around the hostess counter, meandering backward into the dining area. Things you shrug off at Denny's, but tend not to on a $200 tab. I guess it was just a poorly staffed evening.
The Ore House is a locals secret that is too often dismissed as a tourist location. It has excellent food, quality (local) ingredients and a focus on healthy preparation. They cook with healthy fresh oils and fats. One of my favorite places to eat in Durango.
Great ambience for my husband's birthday! As a vegan, there are very limited options (expected, it's a steakhouse!), but I went for his birthday! Our server (I think her name was Katie) was fantastic and helpful. She even let my husband borrow some cheaters so he could read the menu! How thoughtful of this place! He loved the lobster bisque, loved the cornbread and his filet mignon. The Ore House does have a really great wine menu, and we came on a day the wine bottles were half off. AWESOME! I would go back for his birthday next year, since the place is small and intimate and special for that occasion!
We had reservations but were jammed into a tiny corner just off of the bar and my dates only view was at 2 walls. I could understand if we were a walk-in and that was the only available table. Our steak was ordered medium and came out rare, they did re-cook it but it is never quite the same. We have been to the Ore House numerous times and it is typically a nice experience. This one was not that special and we will probably try a different restaurant next time we are in Durango.
Recommended by Google users, another restaurant too busy. We made reservations via internet, honored by business, seated in 5 minutes upon arrival. Food tasted heavenly, meat cooked to request, moist juicy, blissful from first to last bite. Spouse mention, meat grass feed only, she enjoyed wine selection. Staff very welcoming and attentive. Will eat here in future.
We were visiting Durango with friends and found a table open at the last minute. What most wonderful dining experience. Mark our waiter of 13 years is a great assistant and added a fun flair to our perfectly composed steak and seafood dinners accompanied with some great veggie sides. Sunday night is half off wine bottle night so good grape was had by all. And yes the dessert assortment included a house specialty of Chocolate Whiskey cake and creme brûlée. Located directly across from the trail station and down town this is an easy place to find with close parking. Little pricey for some but worth the extra $$$$ for a perfect dining time.... 5 stars
We had a special date night while on our honeymoon and everyone we talked to guided us here. It was a fabulous evening! We had wonderful conversation with our waitress Meredith and loved the entire atmosphere. We said if and when we make the trip back to Durango we would spoil ourselves to a nice dinner here again
Full disclosure: Im a long time fan of The Ore House. They have amazing food that is typically the best around. Their steaks and beef dishes are top notch. The proteins are normally sourced from the producer. Seafood is always fresh and the menu has something for everyone.
The cocktails are generous, tasty, and fairly priced (given the typical plate runs around 40$). I drank a Corzo Anejo Rocks for 11$. The special was Schnitzel with Mushroom gravy and I tried my wife's....it was delicious.
I ordered the Flat Iron Steak, Ore House style, which means they add Red Crab Meat, Asparagus on the side, and Bearnaise. On this particular occasion, everything was excellent as usual, but my steak was undercooked. I was hungry and still ate the entire thing. After many trips to this restaurant, this one detail was the only gripe Ive ever had here.
The staff is friendly and professional. They serve team style so you can count on your drink staying full and the table staying clear. Ive had a couple meals where the manager sent us dessert or even talked with us about our experience.
The occasional rare steak aside, Id say The Ore House is a must visit if you are in Durango. The price is slightly higher than typical fare for the area, but you will be impressed.
