Orchid Bar Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
Service was slow and horrible. We got our happy hour menus taking away when there was still 30 minutes to go. Had to ask for water several times, and flag two other servers since our waitress wasn't even walking by our table. It took us ~2.5 hours to get all our food, and when our dessert finally came, it was melted so it must have been out for a while. There weren't even that many patrons, yet we were still ignored most of the night.
The perfect place to go on a date if you have NO interest in hearing anything your date has to say. The music is so loud you would expect people to be dancing instead of dining. I am afraid the noise level will prevent me from going back.
My fiancé and I brought our parents here for dinner. We had our first date here and also celebrated an anniversary here. Loved the ambiance and vibe. What was cool, was the fact we had the place to ourselves. Our waitress was great, and the food was delicious. We come for the shrimp and grits. So bomb!! I definitely recommend this place! Thanks for the awesome service!!
We were Four. We choose to order small plates and share. The Mac n Cheese and the Swiss chard gratin were excellent. The asparagus and burreta and the shishito peppers were very good. The octopus was OK. we each also had soup that was very good. Lentil soup and cauliflower soup.
Had the steak and arugula salad that had a delightful citrus-mustard dressing. A large piece of steak was cut up and then grilled, turning it into crispy huge nuggets of tasty steak. The turkey sandwich was no ordinary one, with its crunchy fresh bun/brioche, flavorful shaved turkey meat, guacamole, lettuce and baby tomatoes.
The dessert was sensational. I don't usually like bread pudding, but on the recommendation of our server, I'm so happy I tasted it. It's the reason I'd come back. However, the service was a bit spotty. My date had a cappuccino and had to ask 3 people for sugar. The dinner was alright, but the dessert made the night.
I loved the physical restaurant (especially the ambiance at the bar). Small and personal, pleasant with good energy. Unfortunately I was very unimpressed with the food, which is probably why I hadn't heard about it when it is only 2 blocks from me. We arrived and our waiter, Jason seemed very eager to please and very nice. In fact, I cant really find much negatives to Jason with exception that in a restaurant that only had 3 tables the entire evening with 2 waiters, not once did he pour our wine for us with exception of the first pour when he uncorked, the rest of the evening we were left to serve ourselves when the restaurant was completely empty and not much of a work-load.
So my review gets negative here. The lentil soup was good. My bone marrow was completely unbalanced in flavor with sweet over powering any flavor of the delicate bone marrow. Then I had the saffron with sausage spaghetti. There was no really flavor or essence of saffron and the sausage was bone dry, tough and flavorless. Although it wasn't terrible It wasn't worth finishing any of the dishes and both my friend and I left about 75% of our dishes.
All in all I would return here for drinks but never to dine.
The food was good but the waitress was a disaster. She seemed confused and actually left the restaurant mid-meal. We, along with most other patrons had to chase down the bartender for our checks. So, if you like self serve this is the place for you!
My boyfriend and I came here to have dinner for New Year's Eve and we had been here before for dinner. We were trying to find a place that wasn't to chaotic. I made the reservation on Open Table. Come to find out they were not accepting reservations for that evening. However the Manager - Ruben was more than accommodating. He said the kitchen was closed but gave us a good price for the New Year's special which included champagne and all you can eat appetizers. The appetizers were very good. I give stars to Ruben and a thumbs down to Open Table because he mentioned that he submitted the request to Open Table that they were not open for dinner reservations after a certain time for New Years. Thank you Ruben for saving the day!
We arrived for lunch and were told that there was an emergency in the kitchen that they were working to resolve. We had a reservation, and really didn't want to go searching for another option on a Friday. We were asked if we could wait 5 minutes or so. Glad we did. I've been many times, but my three coworkers had not. There had been a smoke issue, that was barely noticeable in the dining area. The staff was attentive as always. There wasn't any delay at all, really. I had raved about the Shrimp Grits so much that everyone ordered it. It never has disappointed. Excellent as always. I also like the redesign of the space, pulling the bar to the front. Although there was a certain guilty pleasure to having it in the back under low light....Thanks again, B+K!
Service was a little spotty and somewhat overly familiar but very friendly. I think this was because it was being partially covered by the bartender during the lunch hour. Food was not quite up to expectations. The shrimp and grits was great, the buratta was OK, but the other two options were so unremarkable I can't even remember what they were two days later. This is part of the O Hotel which is a cute little boutique hotel in not such a great location. I imagine the happy hour is good. Kind of a cool vibe about the place. I would definitely go back for that.
I would love to come back. I came with my girlfriend for dinner. The shrimp and grits were my absolute favorite. The grilled octopus might have been the best octopus I've ever had. The mac and cheese was also really good, just maybe a little too much jalapeno. The raviolli was also good. Pretty much my only real complaint is that it might have been slightly overpriced.
My wife and I were attending a concert that night at the Microsoft Theater. I chose Bar and Kitchen because the ambiance appeared romantic & intimate, with interesting food choices. We were not disappointed. I highly recommend this neighborhood gem, their parmesan truffled tater tots, Korean pork belly tacos, and Shrimp and grits with housemade chorizo!
Unfortunately, I think there was a change in the menu or we were on the cusp of a new menu coming out, so 3 items we tried to order were no longer available - while I may get that, 3 is a bit much and in my opinion shows a lack of professionalism in the kitchen. I got the steak frittes, asked for it medium rare and got parts medium and medium well. The fries were the end of deep fryer and not hot. Overall, not worth the price given how many other restaurants are out there within the same range with a much more interesting menu and tasty options.
Nice, somewhat eclectic place. Food is very good. Service could be a bit more attentive. Bar was crowded, but restaurant was not terribly busy on the night we were there, so my expectations of the service should have been easily met. In spite of that one drawback, I would go back and would recommend.
