Or, the Whale
It was excellent
My boyfriend appetizer, entree & desert (I had a couple drinks too) Everything was delicious and we both loved it.
Very good meal, just what we were looking for. It was my birthday, and I had indicated that on the reservation, but it was not acknowledged. Would have been nice.
Awesome food and excellent service.
They were very accommodating and friendly. Service was fast and the ambiance was very nice. The food was great and we look forward to going back!
Second year in a row we went for our Anniversary. The night was perfect from start to finish. Thank you Or, the Whale!
Great food, Service and wine list!
Anniversary dinner and they brought complementary champagne for a toast!
I thought our waitress and the other staff were very accommodating and thoughtful. We received positive customer service when asking about menu choices and further assistance.
Birthday for my wife.
Had an absolutely amazing time there for a birthday dinner!!! Our server was wonderful! And the food was fabulous!!!
First time in Pittsburgh and scanned the internet for recommendations. This was a good one. One note: it was not clear in the address info that the restaurant was inside the Distrikt hotel. We had a very hard time finding it.
The space was interesting and modern; we liked the open kitchen. Our server, Jason, was in training and did a wonderful job.
We were very pleased with the meal. The ‘duck three ways’ was outstanding as an appetizer. The mussels, unfortunately, were forgettable. Rather bland and served in a pot that was too large and clunky to eat from because its sides were so high. Scallops with pork belly were beautiful and well-executed. Very nice. Crab Mac & Cheese was wonderful. Very rich, as expected, with a lot of crab, crispy crumb topping and a terrific hit of black pepper.
The house-made desserts all sound great. We saved room for the lemon tart with jasmine ice cream and sesame brittle. Super happy we did!
Ordered scallops....got three sea scallops nicely arranged on a plate with minimal garnishes...for $36! Dinner did not come with side salad. Wait staff prompt and courteous.
1st time. Food was very good. The trout special was delicious.
Our server Andy admitted it was his second shift on his own, but he did a FANTASTIC job! When we asked a question that he didn't have the answer to he admitted that he wasn't sure and found out right away for us! We will be back!
My Rib Eye was a bit fatty. Once I got through the fat, it was very tasty. Great service. Great food. My wife had the Trout and it was delicious. Crab Mac and Cheese is the best Mac and Cheese I've ever had. Better than Capital Grill. Potatoes were super. Desserts were very good. As good as it gets for desserts. Highly recommend the experience.
Such a great experience. Food was amazing, service was top notch! Also a very cool space. Slightly pricey but worth it for a special occasion.
Menu including both tapas, salad and full dinner items as well as reasonable wine list and unique cocktails. Service was excellent as well as the preparation!
Service was fantastic. Ambience was fantastic. The food was delicious, but mine was very salty (I had the brisket boil).
Very creative. Well thought out menu. Nice portions. Modern decor and open kitchen.
Absolutely amazing! Had the Maryland Frittata which was the best I’ve ever had, followed by the Lemon Tart for dessert. Highly recommend having dessert post brunch, it was amazing! Great server and over all experience. Can’t wait to go back
Was expecting more of a seafood restaurant, not chop house with a few seafood options. Salmon was the only fish on menu besides the whole fish option. Both our dinners were heavily over salted. My wife couldn't finish hers. Went somewhere else for dessert. Disappointing anniversary dinner.
Wonderful service, seated right away and because it was our anniversary they brought complimentary prosecco!
The food was delicious, can’t wait to go back!
Or, The Whale exceeded our high expectations! We arrived a bit early and enjoyed a great discussion with Siri (yes, a real person) about the inventive bar menu. Then we enjoyed every single bite of our dinner: steak tartare with lots of vibrant flavor and a remarkable black garlic aioli, grilled Caesar salad with crispy boquerones and wonderful cornbread croutons, and quite possibly the best scallops I’ve ever had at a restaurant - perfectly seared, pillowed on meltingly tender pads of pork belly, with a strip of delicious rhubarb pickle atop. Our server, Catherine, was attentive & helpful, but not intrusive. We wish there was chef’s table seating!
Server was very accommodating to my wife’s food allergies. Perfect communication and a pleasant evening. Thank you!! Seafood stew was dope by the way!!
Our meal was delicious, and the server (and service) were exceptional. The dishes were explained very well, and prepared as described. The scallops over pork belly was a combination of flavors that we had never had, and was special. The fish stew was full of seafood, and has a nice tangy broth. The roasted Caesar salad was huge and very good (go ahead and let them serve the anchovies - they are fried crispy!)
Had heard a lot about this restaurant and was excited to try even though most had been for dinner, figured brunch would be ok. Service was the biggest disappointment, slow but friendly. The restaurant was not overly busy, so that was not the issue. I ordered an omelet with a side of greens, both needed seasoning and had asked for salt and pepper to two different people and by the time it was delivered, my food was cold.
Tables very small, a little congested, difficult to hold conversation. Otherwise. Food and service was excellent
Excellent service. Uninteresting menu choices. A good time was had by all!
Went here for birthday brunch, very cool ambiance. I'm a big fan of the whale wall mural! Drinks were tasty (spicy alcoholic coffee in the morning, yes please!) and the food was very good also - my Maryland girl says she enjoyed the crab frittata immensely.
The food was made extremely salty! Not worth the money I spent. Service was wonderful but would not come back.
Took girlfriend out for Mother's Day brunch (it was my second time eating at Or The Whale). We had Maryland frittata and Salmon salad with farro grain. Both dishes were tasty, nice presentation. Coctails deserve a praise too (we opted for refreshing gin and mint cocktail). The dessert, however, was a total disappointment. What was described on the menu as "lemon tart" was some type of pastry shell filled with blueberry jam/compote and topped with slice of lemon pudding? We told the waitress - whatever it was, it most certainly is NOT a classic lemon tart. Besides that, food & drinks were delicious paired with great ambiance of swanky "The Distrikt" hotel.
The food was very creative and fresh. We had the trout, scallops and steak tartare. I would just suggest less salt in everything. Let us taste the integrity of the great food. The service was friendly and helpful. The ambiance is cool but too bright. Turn up the tunes and turn down the lights. Enjoyed our evening.
The food was very pricey for the quantity. I probably wouldn't return unless it was outstanding.
We took our son for a college graduation celebration. Food and service were fantastic. Memorable evening!
Great experience overall. My wife had the scallops, which were excellent, especially the beet reduction. I Had the NY Strip steak, which was very well-seasoned. I was pleasantly surprised, found it better than a double-the-price comparable steak at Eddie Merlot's. Portions were good, we felt just full enough that we didn't even need dessert. Would highly recommend.
Amazing food and service. Great choices on the menu.
This was our first time at Or, the Whale. The waitstaff, food and décor were excellent and my husband said it was one of the best birthday meals that he has had. Looking forward to coming back.
The brunch menu for Easter was a bit small, but the food was excellent - as was the service. I would definitely eat here again!
