Ophelia offers a crafted a two-part menu featuring reinventions of classic cocktails and signature cocktails inspired by the natural elements and the glory of the lounge during its heyday in the 1920s and 30s.
Chef Putnam sources ingredients from local and international artisans, farmers and fishmongers to create an elevated and refined culinary voyage. Small dishes include Maine Lobster Spring Rolls; Seared Hudson Valley Foie Gras with dried cherries; Classic Caviar Service, Prime Beef Tenderloin, and Truffle Fries.
As someone who works in the hospitality business I rarely write reviews because I understand many of the behind the scenes challenges a venue can face. Unfortunately no matter when I come here the service has always remained the same... let's just say be prepared to wait for at least 15-20 minutes or more for any type of order or acknowledgement when choosing to sit down at a table. The wait was most likely longer as people are typically preoccupied with the view. This inherently should give the staff additional time to eventually get to your table but in most cases, the view doesn't help the service either.
Nice lounge - food and drink were good. View is great. Though the seating area is a little tight.
Staff are friendly. Highly recommended if you're looking for a lounge to chill with friends after work in midtown east area.
When we walked in, no one greeted or ushered us to our table. We found a place to seat, 15mins later, after not being acknowledged, we decided to pick up a menu for ourselves. While looking at the menu, a waitress approached us to inform us that the kitchen had just closed and if we wanted drinks, we had to go to the bar. At the bar, we received to same cold treatment. No one said hello, smiled ,etc.. we were seated at the bar for about 10mins befor realizing that we were at a place where they obviously do not value their costumers. Google was wrong about this place. Anyways we left and went to another rooftop in the meat packing district, were they warmly welcomed us. And we were happy to spend our $$$$
Worst service ever! We spent 15 minutes even we had reservation and after that the waitress took the order after 20 minutes. Drinks never came and we left that horrible place. Actually sticky floor and noisy place. The view so so.
Staff not very friendly or accommodating. Tables were dirty drinks rub of the mill. View is great
Ophelia is an excellent place to grab some unique cocktails and tapas before a night on the town. It's a very small, cozy, intimate venue sitting at the top of the historic Beekman tower that provides and stunning view of the east side of NYC and the East River.
I would highly recommend heading here around dusk so you can watch the sunset. It's a fantastic experience to sip one of their signature cocktails while watching the sun set on NYC.
As others mentioned, their food is roughly tapas portions so don't expect a hearty, filling meal. However, while the portions were small, all of the food we had was delicious. It's a really great place to share a small plate with a date or a friend visiting the city but not for a full dinner.
The service was decent and really the only differentiator for me between a 4 and a 5 star review. As much as I would like to give this beautiful lounge 5 stars, our waiter was very cold and aloof, not welcoming at all. However, she was relatively attentive and it seemed like many of the other waiters were quite nice so maybe it was just luck of the draw.
The last thing that I have to mention is the price. Expect to spend a decent amount here. A regular drink will run you ~$10-$15 while one of their very delicious signature cocktails will run you ~$17-$20. The small plates are also in the $15-$20 range so just make sure you know what you are getting into before you head here. My wife and I will definitely be stopping by again for drinks and for the unbeatable view.
Quality venue in a good location. Drinks were definitely unique but carry a $17-21 price tag for each. Pro bartenders will give a taste though before ordering which is an excellent touch. Food was tasty. Tapas style and on the high side too. Overall a great place for a change of pace with great views of the East River. However, table seating is small, tight and in a hot environment due to the windows and the Greenhouse effect it puts out. 3 drinks / 2 beer / 3 tapas / $128 plus tip.
Great view, great seating formation
Very fun place!! Had a great time but had to wait to get drinks a few times. Will definitely go back again.
Although the bar itself and the view are both beautiful, the space around the bar is TINY and you’re paying $20-30 per drink while sitting on baby sized stools that are like 2 feet from the ground. They also weigh a butt ton so they’re pretty hard to move. The “table” is a shelf. Literally. No space to even stretch an arm out without a server saying “excuse me” to get by. Not a good place for a group of friends.
Very attentive staff, amazing drinks, an ambiance that allows for conversation without overwhelmingly loud music. Great place to catch up with friends!
Beautiful setup and views. Great drinks and food. Service could have been a bit more prompt.
We made reservations thinking they have an outdoor roof top space. They don't. They have a tiny space for three crammed tables with two airconditioners blasting noise on both sides of the balcony. Very disappointing.
Odd that there was no fresh lemon or lime juice in a cocktail bar.
Great for a drink a the view
Great view, cocktails and servide
I had let them know it was my birthday and they didn’t do anything special at all.
Great place, very nicely decorated. Good ambience and terrific views. Food was ok (tapas style). Overall I recommend it mostly for drinks
Fantastic views, very attentive wait staff and yummy drinks and bar food. I’d definitely come back.
It beautifully romantic
I had a good time with nice cocktails and snacks the view is amazing! great rooftop bar thanks.
The waitress spilled drinks all over my date. The manager walked over and said, " I'm sorry about that, the drinks on me"! Really! The drink literally was on my date. This was the most disappointing, inconsiderate and embarrassing place I've ever been to. Another waitress lied apologized and blatantly lied that it was the waitress first day- why lie! The manager said its not her first day- What!
I'm glad my date and I kept our composure. However, I would never walk into this establishment again!
Upon arrival, dressed in jeans and tshirt, hostess was dismissive of our request for patio seating. Upon staying we had reservations she appeared put off and led us to our table. Wait staff was much more polite and attentive.
Great view, god awful service. Took them over an hour to bring the bill!
One of the few roof top lounges that you can come with kids after 6pm. Made resv. online the same day and was seated right away. Outside has limited tables so def reservation is a must. Drinks and food was excellent. DJ even let our kids dj for few min. Really fun and cool atmosphere! Will comeback for sure.
Ophelia is the real New York experience - genuine and with style, great ambiance, fabulous views & very tasty food - loved it!
Great view with great music in a part of the city you may not expect it
Amazing place and cocktails. Also a incredible view.
Great ambience, location, and services.
This place is amazing, organised us a small space last minute (for our post wedding cocktails). Staff were brilliant, cocktails were fabulous & the food devine.
Highly recommend this roof top bar....the views were also sensational.
Great view, great food and interesting and innovative cocktails.
Highly recommended albeit at a high price point.
Very annoying manager (the really tall black guy). He would say we didn't reserve the space even though we did and refused to clear out the area when other people started to randomly sit on our designated space.
I liked the ambiance at the bar inside. Cocktails were good, staff were helpful and professional. However, the sitting in the greenhouse terrace was not comfortable, it was too tight and I think the view is overrated.
On a final note, it took me 5 minutes to understand how the faucet in the bathroom works! :-)
Had a great time. Excellent service and great vibes. Coming back with more friends
Would recommend for the view but the service was terrible and the food overpriced and lack lustre.
Great cocktails! This was an amazing bar with great views
Great service from the staff
Great drinks. Mediocre ambiance. Horrible service. Had to ask our waitress three times to turn the AC on. She seemed annoyed. Not sure why our request to turn on the AC in June in an enclosed lounge where people consume alcohol was such an unreasonable request that she has to ask her manager for permission. It was my second time there and the service is consistently unpleasant.
Great upscale place to get a delicious cocktail and enjoy some beautiful views of the East River! Definitely make reservations ahead of time especially if it’s a date. I had La Española cocktail and thought it was great. I was here on a Monday night so it was a pretty chill vibe.
