Nice ambience. Bread and different butter flavors was awesome. Service was great. Chicken and pasta was good, but lacked flavor. Quiet.
We went to this restaurant for Christmas and it was fabulous. I brought my husband back for his birthday only to find out they changed the menu in February. The pork chop was dry and bland. My husband's dry aged steak was over cooked and lacked flavor. I must say we were very disappointed. Our server Rachel was great!
We had a nice time and the food was exceptionally tasty.
It was our very first time dining here. We enjoyed the meal and the ambiance. We do plan to dine there again!
Forgot our salads, comped one desert. Sort of pricey for Plainfield
Food was just ok with very small portions and it was way overpriced. My husband had to go eat a second breakfest. Service was great and its a great atmosphere but will not go back.
Our whole family gathered for brunch to celebrate several birthdays. The servers, Cindy and Kyle, were very friendly and gracious. Everyone was very pleased and we had a wonderful experience. The reservation process thru Open Table could not have been easier, my first time using it! Thank you for a great celebration.
We did the brunch in the morning of the parade, the food portions were so small that both our little girls were starving, so we ended up going out to buy them more food. Even the adult breakfast portions were small and not filling. I have dinned here a few times now, love the location and decor but the prices for such small portions may keep us from coming back.
We've been meaning to try the Opera House since we moved here. It's a little pricier than our average night out, but a great experience. We'll have to try their Sunday bruch, too.
They have top-of-the-line steakhouse pricing but the service and sides are not necessarily reflective of that. I did enjoy my steak and my husband the king crab, however, at this price you would also expect a more happening atmosphere. Overall I would go back but maybe not to impress any first-time diners.
It is a nice restaurant, but prices are way too high.
The food was very pricey for the kind of meal that we received. The steak was tough and not what I would have expected at a place like that. It was done medium rare which is the way that I ordered it, but not really enjoyable. The restaurant has a very nice ambience, but I would not go back because of the quality of the meals.
Wasn’t overly impressed none of the food was to the par we’ve were expecting as on the reviews we read. Steak wasn’t anything to write home about ive made better steaks and it wasn’t cooked to order. My wife’s fish wasn’t great either all and all not great. Ambiance was great though. Over priced for what everything was. Coulda went to gibsons probably for less and had a better meal.
Steak and wedge salad was okay. Very odd open atmosphere..........not really much atmosphere-decor needs changing
Excellent food and great service. It’s really nice to have a top shelf restaurant so close to home. I would recommend the Opera House to all family and friends.
Great food and great service. Our waiter did not rush us and we enjoy it very much! Will be back.
We went for my husband’s birthday because we heard how great the food was and that it was worth the price. It was anything but. They gave us calamari with giardinara on it. It was awful. My husband ordered a steak and ordered it medium rare and it was charred so bad that he had to scrape off the char. I ordered scallops and they came with this sweet sauce and fruit on them that wasn’t very appetizing. We are used to the great steak houses in Chicago and this place would not cut it. I would not recommend this place and we will not be going back. This place is way over priced for the food they provide. Disappointing.
Outstanding dinner, worth the price. Thank you
Good drink selection, fillet was cooked perfectly. A bit pricey
Food was good. Service was good at first, although I'm pretty sure its because we were there right when they opened, at 5 p.m. Around 6 p.m. we noticed our service starting to slow...and eventually just stop. No more refills of drinks, over 20 minutes to get a desert menu AFTER asking for one. None was offered to us. Then when we ordered our dessert, that was ANOTHER 20 minutes. We got there for a 5 p.m. reservation. Didn't leave until 7:17 p.m. WAY TO LONG for a dinner reservation. We didn't have an appetizer. Didn't get coffee and certainly wouldn't have ordered dessert if we would have known how excruciatingly long that would have been. It was nice, but for the amount we paid, close to $200, the service was quite poor!
Dueling pianos was great!
Ate here about a year ago...HORRIBLE experience!! Food was inedible, service was SO slow even though the place was empty. They allowed us to re-select and comped us a cup of soup ($6!) for the trouble. A friend pushed for me to try it again so when I saw a Groupon for M-Th dining I thought OK, I'll give them another try. I went online to make a reservation for this past Thursday night. When we got there we saw there was a piano player playing that night, not mentioned when I made the reservation or on the website. It got VERY loud but luckily we were in the back room. About 20 minutes after we ordered the waitress came back to "confirm" my husband's order. We then watched 3 other tables that came in after us get served before us. The food was good, not exceptional, but good. When the waitress brought or bill I told her we had a Groupon, she said that because it was a "promotion night" that we could not use it! I asked to speak to the manager and he basically said, "yeah, she's right!" I should have argued but just paid my bill ($165 including tip) and left. How is an unadvertised "dualing piano" act a "promotion"? I feel very misled!! I guess I will have to go back one more time (and only ONE more time, then NEVER AGAIN!) to use my Groupon at which time we will be "drinking" our dinner at the bar.
Waitress was not that friendly or helpful! Felt very rushed!
Linda the server was superb! The filet mignon was delicious as was the bread! I love the decor, ambiance, and music! Will definitely return
This was my first visit to Opera. My wife and I had my birthday supper and we came away with good feelings. Service was good. Food was very good. My rib eye was ordered medium and came to the table more rare/medium rare. Upgraded the baked potato to a loaded baked potato for an extra $3 and it was worth it. As a side note, I did not send the rib eye back, it was more than edible and flavorful. We ordered salads as appetizers, my wife had the Burrata and Tomato salad and I the Spinach, Bacon and Potato salad. Both salads were presented nicely and were well balanced. The restaurant brought out a complimentary Chocolate Mousse dessert for my birthday which was a nice touch. If you like a higher end meal in the south suburbs and are willing to spend a few more dollars than at your typical chain restaurant/steakhouse, I encourage you to visit Opera.
My daughters and I walked in and were so surprised at the size of the room!!! It was so spacious and decorated with such elegance and class. The ceilings, floor, decorations, furniture and even the waitress was setting the stage for a perfect dining experience. Our standards were high going in and the place exceeded all expectations. I give it a perfect 10. See you soon😊
We have been here for both Brunch and Dinner. Brunch was very nice and dinner was exceptional! It was Chicago quality food all the way out in Plainfield! The service has improved since we were there for dinner last fall and the food is really good! Give it a try, you will be pleasantly surprised!
Server was great. Food good but not warm. Could not regulate heat/fan.
Writing this review, and assigning stars, has proven to be challenging.
- The dining room environment is very cool, as the building retains its original 1898 opera house charm.
- The gentleman playing the piano was superb. I forget his name, but we learned from our waiter later that he used to perform at the Palmer House in Chicago.
- My wife and I started with French onion soup and chili, respectively, and both tasted great.
- Our sides of potatoes and Parmesan creamed spinach were tasty and well-proportioned.
- Whatever salt / flavor mix they crust the edges of the steaks with is fantastic.
- We finished with an enormous apple crisp topped with ice cream that hit the perfect mix of tart, sweet, and crunchy.
- The service was extremely slow; our meal of soup, steak and dessert took two and a half hours. Our waiter seemed very busy, so I don't know if they were understaffed that night, but our dining neighbors had similar experiences. To his credit, our waiter was very polite and apologetic, but he seemed a little overwhelmed.
- My wife's fillet, ordered medium, came a solid medium well. She was tempted to send it back, but at that point we were both quite hungry.
- I ordered prime rib medium rare and it was properly cooked, but came out of the kitchen lukewarm. My guess is it was sitting for a while before everything else was ready.
- Of the four other tables near ours, one steak was sent back for being overcooked, and a different patron received the wrong steak entirely.
- The restaurant struggled to keep a consistent temperature, and there was enough of a draft that occasionally menus would flutter. I understand keeping the charm of original windows, but maybe a little caulk?
That said, it feels like my complaints can be chalked up to them having an off night, not an intrinsic problem; one of our neighbors said it was the first issues they'd had. It was our first time eating here, and I'd give The Opera House a second go in the future.
The aged top sirloin was perfect. Best steak I've had in years!!
We really wanted to love this place. The atmosphere, the piano, the greeting--all great. The food was mostly excellent, too. Salads were so good that not a leaf of lettuce remained. My wife's cod was perfectly prepared and well presented. Truffle fries were nothing special. New York Strip was dry and very chewy for prime beef. That can happen, but its presentation on an otherwise empty and evidently cold plate was not a plus.
Service was slow, especially at the start and the finish. Our waiter was very personable, but evidently over-taxed. She disappeared to the kitchen for long periods of time, making us feel that she must have food prep duties.
It was a mostly pleasant experience, but not a place we will hurry back to.
Bad service. Very loud. The meal was small compared to the price.
Excellent food and service. Very nice place to dine with many choices on the menu.
We dined early on Valentines Day. The service was fantastic. Amanda did a wonderful job. I started with the caesar salad, which was very good. My wife had the wedge, which was also good. My main course was the cod and creamed spinach. The cod itself was very good, but the sauced and the spinach were on the salty side. My wife’s filet and steamed vegetables were very good as was our desert, the chocolate cake and cappuccino. We will definitely return.
Food is excellent. The steaks are on par with any high end Chicago steakhouse. Crab cake appetizer is phenomenal as well. Great place for a special occasion or to enjoy a great dinner and wine. The wait staff could use some work though. We sat for 25 minutes before a waitress realized we were one of her tables. Once we alerted the host that we did not have a waitress we were well taken care of the rest of the night.
We had a wonderful Valentine’s Day date night there and the food was fantastic! The live piano was a plus and never got too loud. I highly recommend!
Beautiful restaurant in downtown Plainfield. Great for a special occasion.
Steaks we're great, atmosphere is beautiful and our family enjoyed celebrating a birthday, with a special dessert from the chef. Amazing place in Plainfield...
Nice place in the heart of Plainfield. Food was good but I ordered my steak medium with expectation that it might be medium rare and it was near rare. Good flavor just under cooked. I’m not one to have them slap it on the grill again. Overall a nice experience
Filet was good. Ribeye was OK, didn't come with the horseradish cream that was ordered. Risoto was fair, brocolli was cold, had to send back. Dessert was good.
