Opaline Bar and Brasserie
Most lovely breakfast I have enjoyed in some time. The French press coffee was the best. Service was impeccable. Will be back
Amazing!!! Cigar smokers smoking in the wind though. Bad.
Good food, well prepared.
We ordered a few items at the bar for dinner. The bartender was attentive without being intrusive and the food was delicious - raw oysters, mussels in a curry broth, and deviled eggs made with smoke roe topping. Sofitels always seem to have good kitchens for their dining venues and this was no different.
Lovely and quiet surroundings. Took a little longer than expected to be seated, but upon that service excellent.
Excellent breakfast place with outside seating.
Great food and wonderful service. Perfect place for a business lunch!
My girlfriend and I went in for Restaurant week. I would highly recommend this location for any of my friends doing the same. The hostess was delightful and accommodating, the chairs were surprisingly extra comfortable, and the coffee after the meal was excellent. I disliked the hands-off approach of our server, given that the room was quiet for a Sunday lunch, and wished we'd had more attention to clearing our plates in a timely fashion. The surf and turf Eggs Benedict was to die for, and I thought my pecan sticky bun to be heaven on a plate. However, I found my Monte Cristo to be too much Monte and not enough Cristo, with the over-buttered bread dominating what ham and cheese was there. Overall I'd say it's a great place for a quiet Sunday lunch/brunch, but I will order a different entree the next time I go in.
Food is absolutely amazing.
Wait was long. Food was so-so. Staff is not attentive and does not pay attention to what you say when you order. Then they automatically add an 18% tip onto a bill for 4 people. Won’t ever go there again.
The food was delicious, it took a bit longer to come out than I was expecting but we were seated near a large party that had just ordered so I’m guessing that was part of it. Our server was fantastic though. My boyfriend was mostly just happy that we were greeted with Bonsoir instead of bonjour.
My girlfriend and I stayed at the hotel for a day in DC. We had a late dinner in which we ate exclusively from the appetizer menu. The escargot was exceptional as was the foie gras mousse with kumquat and hazelnuts. They we both rich and decadent. We also had the tortellini and a side of the asparagus, which was equally as delicious. We also enjoyed wine and cocktails. Every bite and sip was wonderful. However, the service is what made the dinner spectacular, the staff was knowledgeable, professional, and efficient making the perfect evening even more enjoyable. This is a restaurant worth visiting in DC.
A great place for family and friends to meet. First class service with a varied menu to please everyone. Rockfish and crab cakes are highly recommended, and the hamburger was delicious, cooked to perfection. Be sure and try the desserts, to die for.
Awful service. We waited 45 minutes for drinks. There was only one other table being served in the restaurant and we were ignored by 3 different employees.
Great service and food! Loved the decor as well.
Good food with mediocre service and ambiance. Happy hour drinks are over priced and moderately tasty.
Few patrons were there when we went on a Saturday evening. It was quiet and the staff was attentive. The sea bass was excellent. The steak au poivre was good but not the best cut.
Nice brunch but music was terrible and too loud!
If this review were based solely on the food, 5 stars would be a no brainer. I went for brunch with my mother, who was visiting from across the country, and this was her last day in DC. Food was spectacular and drinks, while a bit pricey, I admit were worth every penny.
We were greeted and seated by Alicia, the sweet and attentive hostess. She even came and checked on us part way through our meal, and made a point of ensuring my mom was comfortable and we were being well taken care of. We were served by Peter, who was both attentive and a delight to talk to, while providing about as flawless of an experience as we could have asked for.
That all being said, the entire meal, we were continually disturbed by one of the staff members yelling and screaming at the rest of the staff. About half way through the meal I asked the bartender who in the world was yelling like that (I thought at first it was an irate customer and was going to ask to be seated outside). As it turns out, it was the MANAGER, Pauline. Throughout the entire meal, we were abruptly interrupted by this girl berating everyone in her path, using abhorrently unprofessional language, and not caring one bit that the entire establishment was having meals ruined by these disturbing outbursts. I have nothing but positive things to say about the food and the service we received; but unfortunately, we left earlier than planned once Pauline seemed to direct all attention to the girl at the front, Alicia, and any hope of a peaceful meal was long gone. I hope this place gets it together as far as the management issues go because I will NOT be going back to witness another mental breakdown like that. Regardless of the fact that she sounded French, Pauline is by far the most offensively unprofessional "manager" I've ever witnessed in ANY dining establishment. But, best of luck to the rest of the staff here as they were fantastic, and the food totally exceeded expectations.
The noise level is too high if you are having a meeting when the restaurant is full. It is hard to hear the discussion at the table. That is the only negative about Opaline.
Very nice brunch for a large group.
Came for Easter brunch. Thought they would have the breakfast/ brunch menu as well as their Easter menu available but they did not limiting our options to 7 choices. The service was extremely slow. It seemed almost as if they were stalling or something. The restaurant was not very busy at all and yet we were not impressed with the service whatsoever. Beautiful building however and when our food showed up it was delicious!!!
We were seated right away for breakfast. It took about 10min for someone to approach us at the table to take our drink order. After that the food came out as expected from a time perspective. The wait staff didn’t seem to be to attentive. We had to ask for water refill a couple times.
Food was good.
Couple things to be aware of....
1. When ordering coffee it is a French press coffee. They charged $6.00 per press.
2. They added an 18% gratuity on a family of 4. This might explain why the service was not attentive. Didn’t seem like they were working for the tip.
Would I recommend? Possibly with some side notes.
Would this be my first choice when back in DC? Probably not
A lovely, quiet spot with impeccable service. An oasis in the middle of a busy day, or a day of museums. The croque monsieur was a revelation!
The service was excellent, the food very tasty, a very nice, quiet place with excellent personal service.
While my dinner date and I enjoyed our meal (steak tartare, escargot, coq au vin, and roasted halibut), we were the only two-top table filled with the other parties two very large groups. As you can image, service was challenged to handle all the diners. Oddly, at one point, the dining room lights were undimmed and staff rushed to find out what happened and returned them to proper dining lighting. Then, later a staff member came up to let us know that the lights would be again undimmed briefly so that the party could take pictures. So the lights were undimmed and the brightness remained throughout the remainder of our dinner, so we decided not to have dessert and to leave the unpleasant surroundings.
Restaurant located is the Sofitel is super chic. The food was amazing, but we were the only patrons in the restaurant. Though this did lend to amazing service ( even accommodating my friend’s request to order brunch :30m after brunch service completed) it lacked a buzzing experience that makes brunch fun. I would definitely return for the monkey bread at least!
Terrible! So regret picking this place. Ordered 4 different bottles of wine and they had none of them. Took almost 30 mins. Ordered an appetizer and salad to share. Both inedible. Canceled entree and left. What a waste of a night out.
I always find the quality of food in this restaurant is excellent. If you love a good French onion soup, this is the place. Even their tomato soup brought me to scraping the bottom of the bowl! The fish entree’s are really great and pumpkin ravioli is excellent.
Looks more like a a hotel contr
I really enjoyed the food and service provided by Opaline and Brasserie. The atmosphere was very relaxing and welcoming. I would highly recommend this restaurant to family and friends hands down.
If you like classic French bistro fare, this place is for you. Extremely good location, too.
we wanted a perfect venue and found it at Opaline - flawless. We got lucky with the DC Restaurant week and a great tasting menu value. The Coq du Vin was simply delightful. There is no end to the wine selection and every request was satisfied. Will be back.
We went for restaurant week and the dishes were amazing! The portions were larger than I expected and the service was impeccable. I will definitely be returning!
Food was great. Opaline offered a special restaurant week menu which was excellent and good value.
It was good, but a little pricey and the portions were small. They had a $20 gift card that they were giving out for restaurant week, so I think I would go back with that, but it was otherwise too expensive for the small portions.
Best service I’ve ever had a restaurant. Food was delicious. My date and I would highly recommend
Food was good. Service was terrible. Waiter arguing over who should pour the wine, bringing the check without asking if we wanted dessert (we did, and ordered some) and hovering again with the check while we were still eating dessert. Terrible service, I would not return.
Our first time at Opaline. We did lunch of the regular menu on New Years Eve. Steak frites for me and grilled salmon for my wife. We shared a huge Apple Tarte Tain for dessert. Excellent Service. We will return.
