Opaline Bar and Brasserie
The Bar menu offers classic bites such as Escargots and Deviled Eggs, as well as more satisfying plates like Moules Frites, Croque Monsieur and Tuna Nicoise.
You can end your meal with Apple Tarte Tatin, Mont Blanc or a Seasonal Creme Brulee wherever you choose to dine. Seasonal dishes and specialty cocktails are featured throughout the year.
we wanted a perfect venue and found it at Opaline - flawless. We got lucky with the DC Restaurant week and a great tasting menu value. The Coq du Vin was simply delightful. There is no end to the wine selection and every request was satisfied. Will be back.
We went for restaurant week and the dishes were amazing! The portions were larger than I expected and the service was impeccable. I will definitely be returning!
Food was great. Opaline offered a special restaurant week menu which was excellent and good value.
It was good, but a little pricey and the portions were small. They had a $20 gift card that they were giving out for restaurant week, so I think I would go back with that, but it was otherwise too expensive for the small portions.
Best service I’ve ever had a restaurant. Food was delicious. My date and I would highly recommend
Food was good. Service was terrible. Waiter arguing over who should pour the wine, bringing the check without asking if we wanted dessert (we did, and ordered some) and hovering again with the check while we were still eating dessert. Terrible service, I would not return.
Our first time at Opaline. We did lunch of the regular menu on New Years Eve. Steak frites for me and grilled salmon for my wife. We shared a huge Apple Tarte Tain for dessert. Excellent Service. We will return.
No one greeted us on the way in. A waiter told us to sit wherever. The restaurant was understaffed. A French restaurant that was out of baguettes and butter on a Saturday night? No salt or pepper on the table. Never asked after my first drink if I would like another. Bottom line The DC Sofitel needs to provide a better dining experience.
Everything about the experience here is top notch. The service, the food, the ambiance is all simply wonderful.
My wife and I wanted to try some French food, the ambience was nice, the server was very helpful with explain the different French foods on the menu, it was spacious and not like your typical French restuarant where everyone is bunch together.
We order steak and chicken, it was well peppered and tasty, for appetizer we tried the french onion soup it was unique, we'll definitely go again.
Marvelous food and service. Early on a Saturday night it was surprisingly quiet. I had the steak au poivre and others had two different fish entrees. Everyone was pleased with their meals. The glasses of wine were rather pricey; had it not been we may have ordered a bit more. I would not hesitate to return.
Delicious. Such interesting mixes of textures and flavors. Wow. Great service.
Kitchen sent out salad with onions despite request to omit them
Delicious food, I had the halibut for lunch and it was excellent. I have also had breakfast there and it is a great for business meetings and/or social events.
Top notch service....The staff were very attentive and patient
My daughter had been here before and wanted to have brunch for her 40th birthday here. Our waiter was amazing and went out of his way to make her brunch special for her birthday. This has become one of my favorite restaurants.
Great coffee. Good servers.
Streak was fatty and over cooked
Washington Resturant week menu!!! Worth the trip! Excellent value and delicious menu! Yummy!!
Food was delicious. Presentation was very nice. Waiter was efficient. Eight of us had a great time.
Inept, slow, totally inattentive service during a time when the restaurant was nearly empty.
The lighting in the dining room is entirely too bright.
We went to Opaline for brunch. When I arrived at the reservation time, there was no one with whom I could check in.
I looked for someone in the restaurant - crossed the hotel to the other dining room, found a server and asked him what to do. He took me back to the first side, walked me to the bartender, who then introduced me to the server who was covering the tables outside, which is where I wanted to sit. Neither the bartender nor our server did anything to check me in, even after I told them twice I had a reservation.
The server spoke limited English and did not understand most things I said, even after I repeated them 3-4 times and she pretended to have understood.
The steak tartare was OK.
The Niçoise salad was OK.
The salmon was OK.
The steak frites was inedible. The quality of the meat was really low - it was a very poor cut of meat - it was dry (despite my having ordered medium rare) - and had way too many spices on it in an effort to cover the inferior quality of the meat.
The croque monsieur was quite good.
The desserts were also quite good.
They have to up the service and improve the steak (they should not have served such poor quality in the first place!) before I can go back there again.
elegant dining room, service was good, food was outstanding - steak au poivre was cooked perfectly. oysters were fresh and delicious. quiet and romantic.
Ate lunch there yesterday with a friend. We both thought the remodel made the restaurant much brighter and the bar area seating much more comfortable.
We shared the steak tartare and the boudin Blanc. The steak tartare was delicious with crusty bread and appropriate accompanists to top the tartare and bread and the boudin was so tender it melt in your mouth (I had to try not to drool - my friend would have been devastated).
My friend had the Ravioli and spinach and ricotta and found the flavors wonderful and the ravioli cooked to perfection (for a moment I thought he might drool).
Tuna Nicoise is my go to for lunch. I haven't found any better than Kinkaids, which has been closed for several years. Well, Dagnabit, I've found it. Plenty of tuna as rare as I like it and the salad dressing was subtle but amazing. And, it's a large portion and I loved how they cooked the hard boiled eggs (with the yoke barely cooked).
I can't wait to go back and take my husband.
BTW we sat at the bar and the bartenders were most helpful in our ordering and told us when they thought we were ordering too much and they were right on. They were not just helpful but very friendly and accommodating.
LOVE, LOVE Opaline.
Pricey, but delicious. Overall we had good service, but it took forever for us to pay our check even though the restaurant was practically empty at that point.
I loved my dinner here! This is an upscale place and the prices reflect that, but the quality of the food and service is excellent. It’s a comfortable experience dining here.
We enjoyed a leisurely breakfast here. There were quite busy, so the service was a bit hit or miss. When the waiter was at the table, the service was excellent. It was just hard to flag him down, due to his heavy table load. The food is very good, and there is plenty of space between tables so you do not feel cramped.
Awesome mother's day brunch
Good food and service in the restaurant. Terrible service at valet, and at reception when trying to get the valet problem rectified.
