Opaline Bar and Brasserie
One of the best service and food experiences I've had in DC in a long time. Service was impeccable and the food was surprisingly amazing.Would give a sixth star if I could! Will definitiely be back to visit again soon.
Wonderful place, I cant wait to go again. The ambience was perfect!
Classy, clean, good food but expensive. Beautiful place.
The Sofitel Hotel is very pretty and chic as is the Opaline Brasserie. The hostess was very friendly - she was the best! Our waiter was unobtrusive. We were given a nice table in the middle of the room with two wing back chairs. The chairs were nice and wide, but they were a little too low and "cushy"( so that we sunk down in them) for the table. it would have been better if we could have sat a little higher. The food was beautiful but the portions were petite. The mini croque monsieur sandwiches were the best! We could have eaten a whole plate of them! The cheese twists were good too, very fresh. We liked that there were more savory items rather than sweet. The deviled eggs had a little bit of caviar on them. There were tiny little triangles of cucumber sandwiches and of a pesto sandwich. There were also mini tarts of mushroom and a salmon quiche and an egg salad sandwich. For sweets, we liked the tiny éclair that was stuffed to the brim with caramel cream - very good! And the macarons were very fresh! The crust was a bit thick for the mini fruit tarts. The mini blueberry scone didn't come with jam or clotted cream but it didn't need any additional sweet topping as it was stuffed with dried blueberries and sprinkled with sugar. It was very petite. The only complaint would be that the tea selection was rather sparse - maybe 6-8. There were more teas listed on their online menu. There was only 1-2 black teas that you would use cream and sugar, and as we didn't ask for it, it wasn't on the table. But they did have mini jars of honey. There were decaf, green, and a herbal option (chamomile) too. This was a more French inspired tea, very petite things, beautifully presented, than an English high tea. But it was good. We'd go back. More mini croque monsieur sandwiches please!
We had a double date and the food and drink were both Delicious. Both couples enjoyed everything.
It was exactly what I was looking for to give my love a special night out for Valentines. Exceptional service and fare.
Amazing! Service was slow due to Valentine’s Day crowd but I will visit again soon!!!
My wife and I had a fantastic time dining at Opaline in Washington, DC. Service was outstanding. Super clean and the food was scrumptious. Upscale and great value. The staff went out of their way to make our experience fabulous.
I am in love with Opaline. The food, the services, the atomasphere, etc. open all my senses: my heart, mouth, eyes, nose, etc.
Food was delicious and naturally and beautifully, and not pretentious. my beets salad was presented like a beautiful flower with fresh, yet intense flavor. foei gras was nicely done. cheese plate excellently paired with honey, figs and toast..
The service felt intimate, but not intruding.
table setup, forks, knives, glasses, etc. were all placed perfectly
Will come back again and again whenever I am in DC.
The staff here is amazing. They personally get to know your name. The service was exceptional. I would definitely recommend this place for afternoon tea with your girls!
Sebastian at the host stand is wonderful
Great place, great people
Best creme brûlée I have ever had. Great restaurant week meal.
Very nice place, good for an informal get together with business associates.
A lovely breakfast spot. The prices were a bit high for what we got. I got the bagels and lox ($18) and my boyfriend’s was more reasonable at $15 for the chorizo scrabble. I didn’t like that the salmon was already on the bagels and was not patted dry, when I picked up the salmon from the bagel the cream cheese had a pink juice on it that seemed odd. The onions were diced perfectly however and the capers were roasted so they had a crisp to them that I enjoyed and had not seen.
We both got a coffee and he got an orange which somehow brought out bill closer to $70 which felt a bit crazy for coffee and an orange juice.
Service was great, extremely attentive and only needed a simple glance their way to get an servers attention.
We dined here on Christmas day and ordered their Christmas dinner. All of our selections were perfect. And the service was as inviting and enjoyable as I've experienced in Washington. We will look for an opportunity to return.
Very good, damn near exceptional. Go now!
The best thing our waiter did was relay to the manager that the music was too loud and she was nice to lower it. Very slow service. Tuna tartare was a very odd preparation, and my steak frites was mediocre. My husband did enjoy his bronzino.
It’s a beautiful space with very thoughtful and professional service
Amazing! Everything we ordered was above par and tasted delicious! The staff and management were so helpful and professional in their suggestions and making us feel valued. The monkey bread and croquet monsieur were to DIE for! I can not recommend this establishment enough!
service was fantastic but food was too salty. :( Drinks were superb.
Most lovely breakfast I have enjoyed in some time. The French press coffee was the best. Service was impeccable. Will be back
Amazing!!! Cigar smokers smoking in the wind though. Bad.
Good food, well prepared.
We ordered a few items at the bar for dinner. The bartender was attentive without being intrusive and the food was delicious - raw oysters, mussels in a curry broth, and deviled eggs made with smoke roe topping. Sofitels always seem to have good kitchens for their dining venues and this was no different.
Lovely and quiet surroundings. Took a little longer than expected to be seated, but upon that service excellent.
Excellent breakfast place with outside seating.
Great food and wonderful service. Perfect place for a business lunch!
Overall, what a disappointment for a French bistro in a Soffitel hotel. Service was poor. Food was just okay. Bloody Mary tasted very watered down juice.
My girlfriend and I went in for Restaurant week. I would highly recommend this location for any of my friends doing the same. The hostess was delightful and accommodating, the chairs were surprisingly extra comfortable, and the coffee after the meal was excellent. I disliked the hands-off approach of our server, given that the room was quiet for a Sunday lunch, and wished we'd had more attention to clearing our plates in a timely fashion. The surf and turf Eggs Benedict was to die for, and I thought my pecan sticky bun to be heaven on a plate. However, I found my Monte Cristo to be too much Monte and not enough Cristo, with the over-buttered bread dominating what ham and cheese was there. Overall I'd say it's a great place for a quiet Sunday lunch/brunch, but I will order a different entree the next time I go in.
Food is absolutely amazing.
Wait was long. Food was so-so. Staff is not attentive and does not pay attention to what you say when you order. Then they automatically add an 18% tip onto a bill for 4 people. Won’t ever go there again.
The food was delicious, it took a bit longer to come out than I was expecting but we were seated near a large party that had just ordered so I’m guessing that was part of it. Our server was fantastic though. My boyfriend was mostly just happy that we were greeted with Bonsoir instead of bonjour.
My girlfriend and I stayed at the hotel for a day in DC. We had a late dinner in which we ate exclusively from the appetizer menu. The escargot was exceptional as was the foie gras mousse with kumquat and hazelnuts. They we both rich and decadent. We also had the tortellini and a side of the asparagus, which was equally as delicious. We also enjoyed wine and cocktails. Every bite and sip was wonderful. However, the service is what made the dinner spectacular, the staff was knowledgeable, professional, and efficient making the perfect evening even more enjoyable. This is a restaurant worth visiting in DC.
A great place for family and friends to meet. First class service with a varied menu to please everyone. Rockfish and crab cakes are highly recommended, and the hamburger was delicious, cooked to perfection. Be sure and try the desserts, to die for.
Awful service. We waited 45 minutes for drinks. There was only one other table being served in the restaurant and we were ignored by 3 different employees.
Great service and food! Loved the decor as well.
Good food with mediocre service and ambiance. Happy hour drinks are over priced and moderately tasty.
Few patrons were there when we went on a Saturday evening. It was quiet and the staff was attentive. The sea bass was excellent. The steak au poivre was good but not the best cut.
