Excellent as usual. One of my favorite restaurants in the Charleston area and we have eaten at almost every high end or moderatly priced restaurant here! I have dreams of their shellish bisque and would be happy eating it every day! Love the ability to order half portions of many of their menu items. Great service, and quiet enough so you do not have to shout at your dining companion which is a rarity nowdays! Highly recommend. Always a pleasure to eat here!

First time there for me and I was quite happily surprised. Charcuterie plate was better than most in town and the pasta was also excellent.

Good food , plain decor , excellent service. A bit noisy especially when seated near a group including a loud coughing diner. Great selection of home made dried meats , cheeses, Honey etc..

Service was excellent-very attentive without hovering, and our meals were wonderful. Can't wait to go back, and we were just there 2 evenings ago. Noteworthy ambiance.

The most interesting thing that Opal does is the creative way it uses confits. I had the duck confit served in a spicy pancetta and pepper tomato sauce where the confit substituted for the meat selection in an arrabiata. Served over pappardelle, it was a hearty and substantial dish perfect for a chilly night.

We always have a great meal at Opal! The warm mozzarella is by far the best I’ve ever had. Nothing beats their pasta!

Opal never fails to impress. You can’t go wrong with anything on the small but well rounded menu. The pastas are amazing but don’t overlook the specials. My husband had the pork rib chop and it was outstanding! My father and I shared a bowl of mussels (delicious!) then the half rack of lamb. It was cooked to perfection and served alongside crispy fingerling potatoes with a carmelized onion red wine reduction. Opal also offers a gluten free pasta option so our son is able to eat with us! The chocolate marcona almond cake with coconut ginger ice cream and marshmallow cream sauce is divine. This is a consistent favorite for us and that’s saying a lot in a town full of excellent options!

The appetizer and entree menu items were all creative and exceptionally well presented. The service was also exemplary and made for a wonderful evening. Table spacing allowed for quiet conversation. Very nice wine selection that matched the menu nicely.

Excellent as always! The best soups. I loved the one I had! Also ordered pastas, both the daily special and the one with bolognese sauce. The al dente pasta made in house is divine.

we have been there now 4 times. With that in mind, I can say it is one of the best restaurants in the area . We live here locally and are a good judge of restaurants. It is first of all a pace that tie can have a conversation without talking loud, the food is extremely good, the service is first class, and for me the fact they offer the right wine glasses for what you are drinking was the icing on the cake.

Perfect restaurant to celebrate 2 birthdays of 2 good friends. Our husbands treated us to dinner at Opal for our October birthdays. Because of the great hostess, awesome server, and helpers we were able to relax and enjoy our time together as well as delicious food. Loved the shrimp bruschetta. We had an exceptional experience at Opel recently. When I made the reservation through Open Table, I denoted that we were celebrating our anniversary and that we wanted a booth. When we arrived, the hostess greeted us and congratulated us on our anniversary. After being seated in our booth, my wife and I were each served a glass of champagne, compliments of the house. Needless to say, we were very impressed. The meal was incredible, from the thinly sliced prosciutto served with the charcuterie to the delicate ricotta gnocchi served as a side with my insanely delicious bone-in pork chop. What made this evening so special, however, was the quality of the wait staff. Everyone was professional and courteous and our server, Christy, was extraordinary. She was engaging and helpful throughout the night and made us feel so very welcome. If she ever chose to stop working as a server, she could make a small fortune teaching others how to do what she does so effortlessly. The meal ended with my wife's favorite dessert, creme brulee, which was ... like everything else that night ... perfect.

We were in Charleston for 3 nights and I wanted to your Isle of Palms by car due to knee surgery 3 weeks ago. Opal performed well, consistent with reviews. We split a cheese and salami 3 item plate, had two of the smaller portion special pasta of the night with a big bottle of sparkling water and two great cups of coffee. I liked the special shrimp and spinach pasta better than my husband. But then he had had a huge BBQ short rib with egg on top and special seasonal veggies under where I had only a salad with the Bloody Mary brunch on Queen St. I was thrilled with the easy access from parking in the suburban location and the quality of the wait staff in understanding our smaller meal desires.

It was all great but the hostest... We arrived 5 minutes earlier and despite that we received a voicemail saying we were late and also an email saying we missed the reservation, blah blah.
Also, she was going to sit us in a table for 2 but we were 4... not a big deal but still.

Enjoyed a Filet special and the duck - also the burrata appetizer. All were well prepared - Filet had maybe a bit too much of the sauce, but still enjoyable. Wine list had great variability in price to fit everyone's wallet, with a reasonable price multiple. Two Hands McLaren Vale Angel's Share Shiraz at $54 vs. typical retail of about $30 is a great restaurant buy. We'll be back with a group. Server Becky was just terrific - attentive, laughed at my jokes, and conversational at just the right level.

We always enjoy Opal and this time was no exception. The shrimp bisque was one of the best soups I have ever eaten and the daily pasta special with the fresh corn, tomatoes and shrimp was also excellent. My friend has a garlic allergy and the server was extremely knowledgeable about which is their sauces, entrees etc contained garlic and found the perfect entree for her. Kudos to the staff for not only providing excellent service but also really knowing their food and wine!
