Oola Ratings and Reviews
Even though they were a bit short staffed (Sunday brunch after Santacon) they still rotated their wait staff to make sure we weren’t ever waiting too long for anything.
The food was also delicious, nothing short of what you’d expect, and then some
Go for their drinks!
I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this restaurant. Very dimly lit interior - plan to squint at a menu a smidge before your eyes adjust fully.
The bacon Bloody Mary was yummy if only for the deliciously salty, fatty piece of bacon which adorned it.
My tomato Benedict was good. I added smoked salmon to it. I must add that the eggs were PERFECTLY poached. The hollandaise (I got on the side) was more like an aoli, but I’m not complaining - it was scrumptious.
The salad was an A+ fresh addition to the plate.
The potatoes could be crispier on the exterior, I think.
Our server was cheerful and personable - no complaints there. She was attentive and polite. Overall I think this was a great meal and made for a nice Sunday brunch date with my sweetie.
It was okay. The booth we were sitting in was uncomfortable and the place was dead when we arrived at 7pm. There was a group of 6 of us. The food was fine, but nothing special. In SF you need to do better in order to standout in a city with such amazing restaurants. The service was good.
We were visiting San Francisco from NJ for a long weekend. I went on open table to find a restaurant close to our hotel that would accommodate both my husband and I and our daughter who is a vegetarian. Oola looked like it would fit the bill and we were not disappointed. They even made small revisions to some menu items to make them totally vegetarian for our daughter. We had the vegetarian tacos, shrimp risotto and the butternut squash tortellini. Each dish was better than the other. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Two of us - one ordered ribs and very satisfied I had the poke. Fish was good, The potato chips cheapen the dish. Almost didn’t order it because the menu mentions potato chips. Almost any cracker on the side would be fine - I think pita chip would be good. Happy hour only at the bar wasn’t clear until we ordered. Be nice if they at least discounted wine (cheapest $13.00) or cocktail.
Arrived for reservation and not greeted by staff. Only "Wait to Be Seated Sign". Waited and ignored by bartender and waitresses who were unable to acknowledge or greet us. After five minutes we exited, entered another restaurant on the same block and canceled the reservation.
Food and drinks were very good and extremely good values. Service was friendly, courteous, and attentive. However, any specialty cocktail not on the menu (G&T, Martini) end up with bizarre tack-on charges ($.25 for tonic? Really? $2.00 more for a Martini because you actually have to shake the drink? Honestly?). These strange and wholly unnecessary charges were about the only big negative on our dinner at Oola.
Getting a reservation at 9:30 PM on a Friday (or anytime earlier) was not a problem. We arrived on-time and ordered drinks which came out within minutes. We ordered appetizers and main plates at the same time that we ordered the drinks. Then we waited. We finished the drinks, but still no appetizers or any food. 45 minutes passed and still no food. The restaurant was only about 1/3 full. We asked if we could at least have some bread. We were told that there was focaccia on the menu to order, but she'd see if the manager would comp it. Another 5 minutes passed and we decided we were finished waiting. We told the waitress that we'd like to pay for the drinks and go. As we got up, someone (manager?) brought out a plate of focaccia but it was too little, too late. She apologized, and said we didn't need to pay for the drinks, but we paid anyway and left.
The host was on point! When he called to confirm our reservation and I told him we were early he recommended we take advantage of happy hour at the bar (best tip ever!) Their happy hour has an excellent small plate selection including $1 oysters and $2 ribs. When I mentioned looking for parking the host called me back to notify me that a spot was available in front of the restaurant and he stood in it to hold it for us. Best service I've received from a host yet. The cocktails were delicious as well.
I booked a reservation here without knowing much about the restaurant; it was just nearby and open late and had availability. So we approached our reservation with some apprehension and uncertainty. Once the drinks and food arrived, any doubt quickly disappeared! Each item we ordered was exceptional, even down to the delicious focaccia bread served as an appetizer. The butternut squash ravioli ranks among the best I've ever had, and the beet salad was exquisite. Even the herb french fries were on a different level. This last minute reservation was one of the most fortuitous spur of the moment bookings I've made in a long time, and I can't wait to return to Oola again soon.
I first ate at Oola over 20 years ago, and have been back many times. Although they have a diverse menu, this place is all about the Ribs!!! Ribs, Ribs and Ribs!!!!
Their RIBS have to be the very "best" in the west by far and away!
Everyone in our party of 5 ordered the Ribs, and everything was devoured in 10 minutes, which was great as it left a lot of time to sit and socialize!!
Keep the RIBS rockin, we'll all be back soon!
The restaurant was blasting techno music. The vibe was more of a bar than of a restaurant. The food was good and the portions larger than expected. The service was poor and a bit amateurish. OK for a nothing special weekday dinner, but I will not be back.
Great restaurant near Moscone Center. We went to entertain clients (table of 6 total) and it was a great mix of low key and relaxing, yet hip with outstanding food. Felt like I was showing clients a great San Francisco meal without either overdoing it or doing the same old, same old.
All the food served here is top notch. The drinks are good especially if you have any of the specialty list. Wait staff always friendly and attentive and answer questions about menu or drinks. Usually go here if I have a performance to see at Yerba Buena Center and surrounding area. The noise level is usually very quiet but had a large table of 10 guests this time that were seated after us.
