Outstanding service for sure food was great a little overpriced but I would definitely go back
Outdoor dining at its best. Beautiful view with spaced out tables providing privacy and covid distancing. The staff went over and above to meet our needs and wants.
Over priced. Wasn’t fresh. There was no soy paper left. Our reservation was for Saturday night at 7:30
Love it. Fresh food and good prices. We will visit it again.
Had a great dinner, waiter had great suggestions for both food and sake.
The outdoor setting is pleasant, makes for a nice evening. Restaurant offers heaters but we did not need on such a lovely night. As one expects from the luxury Four Seasons, cocktails are a bit more expensive than other restaurants yet the pour is more substantial. The wine list is very good and offers some worthy wines at a reasonable price. The sashimi is fresh and flavorful, good portion size. The specialty rolls are really good. Sadly, no ama ebi, no green lip mussel and no big eye tuna. There tuna platter is exceptional. Depending on the server you get, some are very, very good while others not exactly worthy of a 20% tip - but nice and apologetic when you have to continually remind him.
Very fresh sushi in a lovely outdoor setting
All around fantastic dining experience last Saturday night. The ambiance is wonderful, and the meal was equally impressive. The shishito pepper and edamame appetizers are very generously portioned and probably more suited for 4 since the 2 of us were mostly full by the time we got finished with them! We got a bottle of 720 ml Yumeakari sake, a junmai ginjo which was clean and had a nice sweetness to it.
For dinner, we got the bluefin tuna platter and sashimi omakase, along with a side of uni. It goes without saying that all was fantastic. Sashimi platter had 8 large pieces of red snapper (medai), salmon, chuu-toro (one of the bluefin) and hamachi. Nice thick, huge pieces. The tuna platter had maguro, chuu-toro, Oo-toro, and a tuna cut roll. Being a vulnerable species, we of course felt guilty eating it but we didn't want to waste it because it was already there so we rationalized ordering it. If that helps.
Dessert was a large scoop of shiso ice cream with strawberries marinated in sake. We love shiso and after many trips to Japan, this was the first time we've ever encountered it in ice cream. What a treat. It's very fragrant and somewhat herbal so you might want to reconsider if you are not sure if you like the taste of shiso. It was quite unusual in ice cream because we are used to eating it with fish in sushi but it was refreshing, sweet, and cleansed the palate.
As I said in another review of Coin and Candor, we will be back. The Four Seasons hit it out of the park with their 2 restaurants. And thanks to our waiter Zach for helping make this a memorable experience.
Zach was a great server and the beef wagyu was delicious
Service and food were 100%!!
Patio dining is lovely, overlooks the hotels beautiful grounds. The table and chairs are clean and comfortable, and patio heaters are available as necessary. There is a limited staff, but they manage to be attentive to all tables. The quality of the fish is excellent. The portions are nicely sized. The restaurant serves wine, beer and cocktails. While a cocktail menu is not provided, you can ask and be accommodated. There is a wine and saki by the bottle list as well as by-the-glass options. The staff will help guide you through the saki selections, just let them know your taste preferences. The tuna platter is excellent, a favorite. We also love the specialty cut rolls and spicy tuna handrail. Uni lovers will not be disappointed. Only wish amaebi were available here. There is a skirt steak on the menu for those that are not into the sushi sashimi fare. Overall, a lovely dining experience especially now during Covid limitations.
Patient dining during pandemic very nicely
I was surprised to find this was a sushi restaurant, but the staff did their best to find dishes that my husband and I would like. I had a wonderful steak and my husband had shrimp. This was a very elegant restaurant and I would highly recommend sushi lovers.
Food is ok! I was disappointed at this place.
Ordered sushi and it was served and next table and was set down on their table and the other table not their order, and it was given to us! Once it was set down and the other table mentioned they didn’t order
I’m glad I’m allergic to avocado and the sushi had avocado and that’s the only reason they remake the sushi.
Also one of the sushi had a moving bug, no sorry or anything. The sushi was replace but the stare from the manager and server was like ok! They don’t seem concern at all.
Due to bad experience eating at this place,
The only thing I would highly recommend this place is dessert.
Go get sushi some other place there are so many excellent sushi place in LA
Had to wait a long time to get seated
Had to wait long time for service to arrive
Had to wait a long time for a draft beer to arrive from Coin and Candor
What i ordered was AMAZING food
I didn’t order sashinto peppers but they arrived and were terrific so, i kept them
I didn’t order 2nd order of Edamame and didn’t order second order of Calif Roll handout, told waiter.
Bottom line, I appreciate u trying to re open and comply to Covid protocol
Food was amazing, service not there yet
Thanks for asking, best of luck moving forward!
Amidst the Covid crisis, and all restrictions that come with it, we had a supremely enjoyable here. Outdoor seating was spacious, view was pleasant, the food was the star of the show.
We had the special “white” salmon. A first for us. It was described perfectly by the waiter as balanced, smooth, and ultimately delicious.
Great experience and always great sushi. The desserts are amazing!
Onyx is expensive. However, I haven't had a desert like theirs in years! And the presentation was outstanding!Very unique!
Nice interior design. Food tastes good. Service is good, too.
This is our second time and it was simply amazing! Order the Omakaze you will not be disappointed.
Nothing special food mediocre and actually sushi fish not all edible. Very chewy and felt like grocery store cut than fine dining or sushi restaurant. Scored points for fresh wasabi grated at the table per request only otherwise not even offered. Janos chi was not edible neither was their yellowtail. Lacking ambiance and quality of ingredients the restaurant had prior to their remodel
My boyfriend and I visited on Valentines Day & to celebrate my birthday. There was a pre fixe menu that was not advertised anywhere despite the other hotel restaurants listing theirs so we anticipated the normal dinner which looked great. Upon being seated we were given a set menu with no price listed. The sushi and sashimi courses were super disappointing and kind of ruined the rest of the meal for us. Especially disappointing was how expensive it was for a meal neither of us liked. We offered feedback to the manager who was very nice and apologetic regarding the experience. We loved it before the renovations so if we return hoping the food will be how it was before!
Service, food, wine list, all impeccable.
Renovated Onyx was smaller (more intimate as the hostess described it) than pre-renovation with fewer booth/tables and a large 'community' table in the center. This latter seating may not be preferred for an intimate dinner but great if you want to meet new people or eavesdrop on your neighbor's conversation. If you do not prefer communal dining then I'd suggest making this known when you make the reservation.
The food, the service, and the atmosphere (we had a booth) were excellent as expected. The food prices were in line with expectations but the drink prices seemed a little steep for what we got---great tasting but for the price I expected a better pre-dinner buzz.
Overall an excellent experience and "we'll be back".
Very..... very..... slooooowwwwwww.
We love going to Onyx, the feel of a vacation. Much smaller restaurant now, makes it a bit louder and now they have a smaller menu as well but all the same really enjoyed our evening. Service could have been a tentative.
The food wasn’t as I expected. The seating area was so small that we had a hard time to fit in there. I don’t like the new look of the restaurant. I won’t go back there again and I don’t recommend either. Nothing is the same with that beautiful hotel.
We went on the 1st night of DineLA.
I did not have high expectations but was pleasantly surprised! The quality and taste of food were excellent and were not even tiny servings. The $39/person was definitely worth it.
We will come back even if it wasn't on a DineLA week.
Nice date night place. So great to have an authentic sushi place in the area.
The New Year's Eve venue was fantastic. Each course was brought at a nice pace. I never felt rushed and the food temperature was perfect. This was definitely a memorable dinner!
They brought champagne and special desert to add to our anniversary celebration! Wonderful
Food and people!
We loved the experience at ONYX. The service was exceptional and the quality of the food was very high. The price was a bit high what with it being at a resort but we will be coming back!
We have enjoyed Onyx in the past and was considered a favorite restaurant for self proclaimed sushi snobs. It’s actually inedible. The fish was caught wrong and was over priced for the quality. We will not be going again which makes me very sad.
Amazing food. The best Sushi I had in CA. It is expensive, so can’t be a routine, and they close too early (9:30 on sat night). Suggest to manager to include reverse happy hour (like 25-50% off from 9-11 pm) to foster local repeat customers.
The sushi was disappointing. The seabass was tasty. Prices were high
This might've been the best sushi that I've had. The chef is amazing and such a nice guy. Try and get seated near him. It's such good food.
Our server Ocean was amazing! thank you so much for the best birthday experience!
It being at the four seasons and the price it was not very good at all. I could have gone somewhere else and spent $80 for better food instead of $160
I’m not sure what happened since the last time I was there. It used to be beautiful and energetic....it was awful, sorry to say. The food menu is the third of its original size and choices were very limited. I had ordered the lobster ramen which I couldn’t eat....so fishy tasting. I had a group of
8 and we were completely underwhelmed 😴
Solid service and meal. Good sushi. Very small choice of nonsushi items but they were good.
