We really enjoyed our dinner. I loved that you had a smaller version on Filet Minion.
Well we have reserved standard seating but we got bar seating. The table was small and the seats were not comfortable. Usually when I spend about $300 on dinner for two in a restaurant I don’t expect the bill before I ask for it and before I finish my drink.
It's a little pricey, but the chef prepares excellent quality food and lovely presentation. We enjoyed happy hour menu items, steak bites, tuna bites, stuffed onion rings, prime rib bruschetta and red wine. Nicholas the owner was present, he is personable as are his staff. Service was great.
Had an amazing meal. Steak and sides. Really great and a fab martini. We will be back.
This restaurant is a rare thing - a rather intimate quite steak house. Seats 60 with a welcoming and attentive staff. Has a good range of steak, seafood and wine. What else could you ask for?
This place was great. It met our needs in terms of of serving 13adults and 5 children. Food came out in a timely manner and service was excellent. Would definitely do another dinner party here.
Onyx Steakhouse and lounge was recommended by a friend for a get together with friends. The promise of a great steak in the ambience of quality, great experience and immaculate service. We were treated exactly that way from the moment we walked in, got seated, ordered and enjoyed our meals. When asked about the menu, the details were provided beyond the menu description, which made selection more informed and enjoyable. You can tell staff was knowledgeable and focused on us as if we all that mattered.
No unnecessary interruptions, quiet check-ins and timely service. The wine director we were introduced to, remembered all of our names throughout the entire time, from start to finish. Made us feel like it was our place, to visit again and again, as if we owned it.
Decour well chosen, lit and matched the overall theme of the place. Lighting was just right.
Restaurant is very clean. Bathrooms clean and well taken care of.
I will come again, next time with my wife and will recommend to my friends and colleagues. It would be a great choice for business meetings, and even larger groups, with their special room that can fit a large group/party.
Priced well for the quality of food and overall experience. You don't come to Onyx just to eat, that's my impression having dined there, you come to Onyx to experience dining at its best: great food, no unnecessary interruptions, timely service with an overall feel good element throughout.
Had a wonderful unhurried meal at Onyx with four ladies from my Bookclub. Very attentive service e and fabulous food. The environment was clean and contemporary and noise level was quiet as we were discussing our book. Definitely go there again.
The place and experience were both pleasant. Our server was in the ball. Didn’t catch her name but she was blonde. She did a superb job at keeping on top of things.
Issues we encountered, which we ignored because it was a special occasion and didn’t want to make a big deal of things.
1) even though the app asks for the reason of visit when booking, they made zero comment about it being our anniversary... not the hostess, not the server. Someone is dropping the ball soemhow on that. Something to improve on, specially since I had read reviews which complaint exactly about that.
2) both my wife and daughter ordered fillet mignon, and were served some meet that did not taste like fillet mignon. Whatever it was, was fine... but definitely not fillet mignon.
3) my daughter and I asked for our meats to be medium. Mine was medium rare and my daughter’a was well done. Neither meet was bad, but not made to point as requested.
The place is nice. The food is good. The server was amazing.
Some things to improve on, but we will definitely keep
It in our radar and will be back again.
If you go there, please be aware it is not cheap. It well served, good quality, and you leave happy from it. But do not expect to eat there for the same price as brown’s or keg.
Onyx Steakhouse is what I believe a steakhouse should be.
Great food, perfect atmosphere and great service.
Steak was excellent but the side dishes are not very good. Nothing special about them. The service was okay not exceptional. The ambiance is okay.
The food was delicious, fresh tasty nicely presented. We shared happy hour appies, steak fries, ahi bites, steak.bruchetta and prawns. For meals we had filtet's, ahi tuna and chicken meal, we shared cauliflower, beets, brussel sprouts and mushrooms for sides. And we shared fresh baked desserts.... the apple galette and the giant cookie, everything was amazing and the service was exceptional! It's a little pricey but excellent!
We celebrated New Year’s Eve here as we could walk to the restaurant 😊 The food was delicious & the waiter was friendly & helpful. We were placed at a table in the window, which I had requested, so we were away from the noisier part of the restaurant. Thank you!
New Year’s Eve / no Tomahawk steak but the rib bone in was delicious!
Onyx is our anniversary goto spot. Booked an early seating @ 4:30 on purpose. The service started and remained more relaxed after a wrong dish was served. It was getting very busy and we won't be dissuaded from returning again. The food was outstanding!
Service and setting was fabulous but food very expensive and over priced! More expensive then Keg...
Hello Sandy, Thank you for leaving us a review. Yes in some cases we are more expensive then the Keg and we are proud of that. The reason why we are proud of that is because unlike the Keg we serve only fresh never frozen beef and only serve AAA Canadian Angus and USDA Prime Beef. We would never have AA beef on our menu.
Good food, lively venue, perfect neighborhood steak house. Oysters were great, steak was perfect. Bread could use some attention - crostini doesn't mean stale bread. Service was good. To get 5 stars, their quality should match their prices which are on the higher end of the scale. We'd go back.
We waited a long time for dinner but the food was worth it!
I am saying this because it was too much like a keg.
Outstanding steak (as usual)!!
Brussels sprouts were a little over done - service was attentive and friendly. Highly recommend!
I took my son to Onyx for the Tomahawk steak for his 17 th birthday . I mentioned it several times and not once was his special day acknowledged . We ordered stuffed onions rings which were burnt on the bottom and cold inside. ( we could hear from our table the fryer was broken and waiter told me that they were pan fried ). I sent them back . When the Tomahawk came out the waiter started to carve it up and place the meat on our plates . Whilst doing this he dropped a piece on the floor . I was shocked and told him so. The waiter continued to carve up the steak and he dropped another piece on the floor . ( our steak was cooked medium and he replaced the steak he dropped with well done prime rib ) After dinner was done the waiter gave us our soft drinks for free and a jar of steak rub . My son was given a piece of cheesecake for his birthday complimentary. It was our first and last time here as for the cost of the meal the food was average and the service was below standard.
Hello, We are truly apologetic for your experience and certainly would like the opportunity to make things right. Can you please reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org Sincerely, Nicholas & Angela Popoff Owners
we went there for Dine out White Rock,
the service was excellent, the food was so-so, the soup was supposed to be Mushroom, we got some sour cauliflower soup, the staff made it right and gave us a salad instead. the petit filet mignons were overdone
There is no more complimentary popcorn when dining. Sadly, the size of the steaks decreased and the price increased. Menu options have changed since last time there (was several months ago, so it definitely wasn’t recent).
Kelsey was a great server, very personable. Alex knew his wine; however, the one we wanted they were out of it but the recommendation for another was on point.
Would visit just prefer the old way, but totally get it.
Hi Michelle, Thank you so much for your feedback. We still do serve our complimentary popcorn so I think that was just a miss on our end we do apologize. We have not decreased the size of our steaks since your last visit so I cannot provide any further comment with regards to that and with regards to price sadly most things in life increase in price over time. Would love to learn more about what the "old way" means. Did we remove a favourite item of yours? Thanks again for dining with us!
Had the White Rock Dine out special. Steak was very good. They kindly switched the polenta for mashed potatoes. Would not have been happy with polenta.
Our first time dining here and we had a fantastic time. The bone-in filet mignon was one of the best steaks I've ever had, tons of flavor and it just melts on your mouth. My date loved their petite fillet and we tried the beat duo and steak fries on our servers recommendation and those were excellent too. We will definitely be back again!
Amazing experience from start to finish. We enjoyed the Bone In Filet Mignon and the Bone In New York Striploin. Our server informed us that both steaks were over 50 days of age and that would be phenomenal. So happy we took his recommendation. Sides were very good as well. The wine list is incredible showcasing a bottle of wine that is $10,000! Their sommelier Alex knew his stuff and made an excellent recommendation. They recently hired a Bar Chef who's name I cannot remember but his drinks were outstanding. Can't wait to go back and try the one that comes to your table in this glass globe and is smoking!
Had a business meeting, food was great and service was on point.
Our server doesn't have the training to work in restaurant of this level, fault is on management. The restaurant false advertised. Only when insisted, I received the amount of discount shown on the ad.
We’ve enjoyed Onyx in the past but in our last few visits have had a string of issues.
This last visit was terrible from start to finish. Our server wasn’t comfortable or knowledgeable with serving. It was awkward and uncomfortable. But paired with the weak bar tending it wasn’t completely all his fault. Took time getting drinks to table, when finally ordered, to the point that the ice in the martini had watered down the whole drink.
Wrong sides were brought out, then waited for correct ones but had finished mains already. One steak was chewy. Salad was wilted. And creme brûlée was burnt, not brûléed.
Yes drinks were taken off as well as dessert but whole experience was tainted.
The night was just an overpriced unfulfilling headache.
Server forgot about us, so I complained then they gave us a new server who was sweet. Unfortunately though by that point we had been there for 45 mins and had only one drink and no order taken. Our food took another 30 mins, and was not very good. Then they offered us complimentary dessert as an apology, which would have been nice but it took another 30 mins to come. It seems they may have new owners, or all new staff? We won't be back.
The food was great and our table was ready right on time. Right decor and perfect lighting. Service was ok but we had to wait about an hour before even our appetizers arrived. A 1 hour wait is just way to long and not acceptable.
We had a group of 15 for my husbands birthday and the staff was knowledgeable, accommodating and friendly!
Our waters were constantly topped up, we never had to ask. ( this is a big deal for me )
Our food was fresh and hot, and everyone got what they asked for, there were no mistakes.
The bills came out accurately with no mistakes.
Our friends had never been here before and now they can’t wait till we go back!
Great service, food was excellent delivered promptly and hot. All around good experience.
Food was well prepared, appetizers and entree, just found it a little pricey for my taste and portion sizes
We actually never ended up going... there was some sort of family emergency for the Onyx fam and the owner actually called me and had us set up at another restaurant .. apologized profusely, but I get it..
hey.. stuff happens.. no biggy. We ended up not going to the restaurant he had set up for us, but had said he would call me and hook me up with a $50 gift card to come back to the Onyx. I have been there twice before and really enjoyed it... just wanted the kidlets to come along as they have never been there before. Hopefully he calls with the gift card!! :)
First off our food was cold all of it service was absolutely atrocious and terrible will never go back will tell everybody not to go there
Hi Dave, Thank you so much for taking my call today and again a million apologies with regards to your last visit. We look forward to inviting you back towards the end of Summer. Look forward to seeing you soon. Best Regards, Nicholas & Angela Popoff Owners
Very convenient to my home. Have eaten there 15 times or so really wanting this to be my favorite given its location. Always find the service to be very poor and to be honest....i dont have high expectations. Given the price point...i am looking for similar to the Keg. They are batting 0 percent with that comparison. I love the food and wine selection and keep wanting to love my time here. Overall i would call the level of service horrific in each if the times i have been. Waiting 30 plus min for a drink. Very disorganized and over an hour for food to arrive once ordered. We have brought new people in each of the times we have gone and each time our guests have commented how poor the service was. Food has been average most times with the odd exception of fantastic with the odd appy. Hope the feedback helps as my note comes from a place of wanting it to be a great restaurant especially given its price point. Each time i have visited my bill has been 250 to 350.00
Hi Darmon, Thank you for your feedback. Since you were in we have completely rebuilt our team front to back and are working very hard on delivering 5 star service to our guests. We would very much like the opportunity to invite you back and show you all the hard work, training, and investing we have been doing at ONYX. I left you a vm earlier with my contact information. Sincerely, Nicholas + Angela Popoff Owners
This was the second time that we have been disappointed! It was Mother’s Day. There was a sign out on the street for Happy Hour YET there was no happy hour. On the menu, there was Prime Rib dinner for 19.95, yet there was NO Prime Rib dinner for 19.95.
The owner was working that night and was surly and NON welcoming. Our friends walked us to door, and I said to the Hostess, ‘we are early for our reservation but we are going to have a happy hour drink with these two first.’ The owner chirped, ‘there is No Happy Hour’. I then said, ‘well you should remove the sign from out front then!’ He stormed off. So did our friends.
I don’t get how ppl can treat customers like this and expect them to return!
Our server was very nice though and the 32 dollar prime rib was mediocre at best. The 19 dollar glass of wine was more difficult to swallow.
We will not be going back.
Beautiful place with attentive service. Ambience was nice, it was the perfect spot for a romantic date. My only comment is I ordered an Oscar topper which was not at all what I expected. It did come on the side, but I just poured it over my steak without tasting it. They should indicate on the menu there are different spices in it, I didn't like the Oscar topper and it ruined my steak. I would highly recommend this restaurant other than my Oscar mishap!
