ONoir Ratings and Reviews
This was my second time coming here, and O.Noir is always a fun, novel, thrilling experience. While it’s usually a great place to focus on conversation with someone (as well as the tastes and textures of the food), I found the seating was a little tight and was about two feet away from a very loud couple who made conversation with my own date difficult. A little more space between their tables (or at least the ones reserved at the same time) would have made the night perfect.
I drove an hour to get to this restaurant and was not disappointed. The personnel was delightful, the ambiance was great and the food was delicious. I find it a little bit pricey for my range, so this would be a once-twice a year occasion for me but I love sharing the experience with friends and colleagues.
I bought the meal on groupon
But when I got there they told Saturday’s that it wasn’t good for Saturday’s
So it cost me three times the amount
Soooo I won’t be going back unfortunately
I drove over 1 and a half hours just to find out that
Instead of 58.00 with the tip and taxes it ended costing 200.00 with the 58.00 reduction
It was an a great experience but there were 3 things that really disturbed me.
1. The room was too cold, and there was no easy way to leave the room. Even if you did, it would partiall ruin the experience.
2. There wasn't enough food. Had I known, I would have ordered a 3 course meal, not 2.
3. The waiter wasn't very good, he interrupted our conversations constantly and was a bit passive.
Overall, we enjoyed the dining in the dark experience, but had it been in a normal restaurant we would have been a bit upset.
Montreal is famous for great food and restaurants, and O Noir is no exception. We were very impressed with every dish we ordered and each was expertly cooked and delicious. The friendly professional staff made us feel very welcome. The dark dining room became loud and raucous so I'm not sure I would recommend it for a romantic dinner, but rather for friends and families who enjoy an energetic atmosphere - there is clearly something about the dark. One could get caught up in the festiveness.
This experience was one I had never had before. Eating in the dark only allows you to use your sense of smell and taste. The food was amazing and the portions were hearty. We let the chef surprise us with the appetizer so trying to break down the plate and guess what we were eating was really fun and neat to hear everyone's difference in thought. For dinner I selected the rib duo and I enjoyed every bite, another person got the rabbit which was interesting because they had never had rabbit before and they were eating it in the dark, 2 other people got the surprise and their meal was the best. It was fun sharing as we were placing food in each other's hamds. Dessert I selected the creme brulee and they all got the surprise. Every dish was packed with flavor, surprise, and yummyness. The noise level was a little high. At first we thought it was because we couldn't see but a large group that went in before us started singing at one point. A couple dishes were dropped or knocked over and everyone would make a noise. You find that since you can't see, everyone talks a little louder as if others can't hear LOL. Our waiter was really nice and a great guide. I am still amazed at how they maneuver around so gracefully and give everyone their orders with no accidents. The portions are big, flavorful, and will not disappoint. We ate there 4 days ago and still talk about it. Definitely would like to go back if we are in the Montreal area again.
What a dining experience from start to end! I did not tell my partner what this restaurant was all about and that made it all the more fun! You arrive and put your stuff in lockers and then order ahead of time in the bar area. Go for the surprise menu! Our server then greeted us and escorted us into the pitch black and to our table. It takes a minute to settle in as your eyes do not adjust and you are in complete darkness. Then the food came out and the fun began trying to actually eat and guess the ingredients! It was easier for me to just use my hands and that made it fun as well! The service, the food, the experience was all top-notch and this restaurant is absolutely recommend to everyone!
I really enjoyed my time at ONoir, it was a very unique and interesting restaurant and the service was very efficient and it overall was a very enjoyable experience. I would highly recommend this restaurant because of it's unique atmosphere. Eating in the pitch dark was a very daunting yet exhilarating experience. It's a great restaurant if you want to spice things up for a party and it's a great restaurant if you want amazing tasting food. On the topic of the food, it was spectacular. It was a five course meal starting from sparkling wine followed by three courses of food consisting of deer, fish and stuffed duck and then ending with a dessert. It was some of the best tasting food I've ever had, and I believe the fact you can't see what you're eating really makes you appreciate the food even more. Our waiter Tim was very friendly and was very attentive to our needs. Overall it was a very amazing experience!
I went with my boyfriend while we were in Montreal for New Year's Weekend. We enjoyed the novelty of the experience. However, I wasn't blown away by the food. We had a similar experience to some other reviewers who mentioned the smell of the room and the loudness of the other guests, but felt that some of this was simply unavoidable.
I have two problems with this restaurant 1 when you walk in you get close to the bar but there's no door that closes behind the main door there's only a black piece of material that hangs several time somebody comes in you can feel the freezing cold air coming so the front part of the restaurant was very cold around the bar and the sitting area. Second we were left there wondering where to go what to do and how it all worked for a very long time I would have appreciated it had we been met as we walked in the restaurant greeted and asked if we've ever been there before and then if the answer was no then they explain how it all worked. Other than that it was fun their server was excellent the food was excellent very tasty very good and it was fun. I would not go back there just for the food I only went for the experience
Took my daughters for their 18th birthday while on vacation. Great experience, waiter was very good. Had the three course "Special" menu, which came out and food was very good. Only thing I would of liked was a description of the dish after the meal as a way for me to confirm all items I was eating.
Menu has some interesting items and would definitely go back.
Our group of ten had been there before, two years ago. The reception and orientation to this unique dining experience was great. The actual food service was slower than we remembered. The dining room was unpleasantly noisy once a birthday party group arrived. Our server was so soft spoken that most of our table couldn't hear his instructions or information. The food is very good and it is a good value. We were later told that it was the servers responsibility to have their tables keep a respectful noise level but that was not happening. It made us want to leave very quickly, and left an overall feeling of dissatisfaction. It is a very unique experience that is well worth it, and I would only suggest not trying to go more than once with the same group.
Fun experience with friends. It had been on my Montreal bucket list for awhile and I finally found some friends who were willing to try eating in the dark. There was lots of laughter. Be prepared for pitch blackness - I couldn't see my hand in front of my face.
