The staff was good and the food was excellent.
Consistent quality with inventive updates to the menu. Attentive service and gracious hospitality. My favorite spot in Iowa City.
A talented crew delivers a wonderful experience every time. The menu regularly is being updated. From cocktails to food to the outstanding hospitality, One Twenty Six is a delight. Highly recommend!
The best meal we had during our visit with our daughter! Loved the vegan menu it was all fabulous wish we lived closer to dine again!
Love this place, all 4 of us practically licked our plates clean. Wish the lights were turned down more for a bit of ambience. Service was great.
Our dinner (a prix fixe meal for restaurant week) was fantastic! Service was great too since we ate early. our only confusion was when we made the reservation for this special, we thought we would be eating in 126 rather than Moonrakers. The latter is more noisy and not as elegant.
I was really disappointed by our experience this past Saturday night. The price is WAY too high for the quality of food and service. Given their price points I would expect much better service than we received. Our waiter was just a random college kid who lacked high end service skills. The lamb was cooked poorly and was tough. They have a very small cocktail menu and were out of ginger beer which was required for 2 out of their 8 choices. I was really disappointed and will not be back. Joseph’s is a much better choice for the price point in Iowa City.
Would Definitely recommend this place it’s really nice the food is amazing staff is good ......................
Amazing service from our waiter, David! He was very attentive and gave us great recommendations! My party of five was very pleased with all of our food options. The salmon and pork chop were phenomenal! They made a simple buttered noodle dish for my 3 year old! Two in our party had the aged tenderloin and said it was amazing! Will come back again if we get back to Iowa City!
One Twenty Six remains one of the best restaurants in Iowa City. The menu continues to push the boundaries while remaining a quiet and accessible venue.
Had a terrific New Years at 126 - prix fix menu with wine pairing was outstanding and service was also terrific. Courses of potato-leek soup, seared tuna, hangar steak, and dark chocolate truffle were each done perfectly, and wine pairings consisted of sparkling rose, white Bordeaux, red Bordeaux, and tawny port that each paired very well with the food selections. Waitstaff were attentive without a feeling that we were being stalked, and price for a new Year dinner was reasonable. We'll make reservations to repeat next year
A wonderful meal! All the food was very fresh, delicious and and the 4 of us really enjoyed ourselves. Perfect wine pairings also.
The steak frites was unremarkable and the lamb got negative reviews. The pork chop was well received. They were out of ginger ale. The seating for 14 was very tight despite the fact there were no other patrons in the area and there was plenty of room. Otherwise it was fine and everyone enjoyed themselves.
126 has been a favorite for years but this experience was disappointing. Entrees were small which was fine but there was either just a little lettuce or nothing on the side of the plate. We ordered an appetizer which had dip and flatbread and when we still had half the dip left and no flatbread, we asked the waiter if we could have more flatbread - we were told no. We offered to pay for the flatbread and were told no again that we would have to order the entire appetizer again. Our bill that night for the table was close to $200. I would expect more for that.
Nice spot for especially for a college town.
It was parent's weekend and I can only assume they were overwhelmed. Our server was Tristan. He was very pleasant and helpful however, service was extremely slow. Especially drinks ordered from the bar.
Again, I do not think they staffed up enough for the night. Salmon was excellent. Lamb Ossobuco was very tasty. The filet was very nice but on the pricey side, even compared to a Smith and Wollensky or Morton's. Id go back and give it a try again.
Busy night so getting food was slow. Also multiple times server took our beverage order only to come back and say you didn’t have it. He seemed new so we totally understood the learning curve. Food was delicious as always!
The pasta entry said it was homemade pasta it was not and the food was mediocre at best. That used to be one of our favorite restaurants but we won’t be going back
Hello, We do not claim anywhere on the menu that the linguine is home made. We never had home made linguine on our menu. The gnocchi is house made. Regardless, the chicken linguine is very popular with folks who are not looking for a cheesy pasta. Thanks. Mathew
Great food!
Reservation was for 6:15 on Friday the 11th of October on a football weekend. Arrived at 6:10, seated right away. Drinks served, and appetizers ordered, a cheese plate with three very good cheeses, dates, walnuts and perfectly toasted French bread. We also had the marinated olives which complimented the cheeses very well. Order another glass of wine and dinner. Wife ordered the steak frites medium and I the tenderloin medium it was complimented with whipped potatoes and broccolini. Or I should say I think it was. Original entree order was placed at approximately 6:30-6:35 also ordered the bread basket (it's not complementary) bread came just a few minutes later. At 7:20 our young lady server brings two simple dinner salads explaining that another server had inexplicably taken our order to another table. Please accept these salads and of course the wine is also on us. Salads, simply greens with a nice vinaigrette. No bread left but that's fine. The trek to the bathrooms go directly by open kitchen up a long flight of stairs. After the salads went to the bathroom up the very tall stairs for the second time we've been here nearly 1 1/2 hours with cheese and bread and wine........ coming down the stairs there is NOTHING on the grill? Get to the table there is still no food. It's almost 8:00pm. Olives, bread, drinks (the cocktail not the wine she said was comped) cheese. We decided to put $40 cash on the table and left. We did briefly say we had to leave, to our waitress as she stood running another patrons tab. We told her we had left some $ on the table and she just smiles and says oh really? Then we went to find food. I would have thought when our order was found to be lost every effort to bring our dishes as quickly as possible would have been afforded. Or at the very least kept updated. Nothing no communication after the salads were given. We ended up at 8:15 pm trying to find a place to eat on a football weekend in Iowa City. So disappointed.
We sat outside and were the only ones there. Nonetheless, the food was excellent. The service was attentive and efficient. We will go back.
Great restaurant! New menu is very good! Lamb osso bucco is the best!
Really delicious food, creative menu, wonderful service, nice wine list, and convenient location! We're from a large city and get to dine well often -this met our standards for sure! Only wish would be for a bit more room between tables and better A/C. Would definitely return when in town and recommended One Twenty Six to our Iowa City local friends.
Food and service was incredible.
Love the food presentation staff and owner came and introduced himself. Loved it and will go again!
Food was outstanding. I loved the fusion approach that combined Indian elements into many dishes -- all of those were great especially the pork vindaloo en croute. Our service was also fantastic. My one other note is that the bare brick walls and bare wood floors make for a very loud dining area. If that's your thing, great. If, however, you're looking for a quiet conversation this isn't that kind of environment.
Sadly, it was so hot in the restaurant, you could not enjoy the meal.
This is one of Iowa City's gems. Understated but with food and service to match fancier restaurants in bigger cities.
There were some very good vegetarian choices on the menu. We had their samosas, which were excellent--crisp on the outside with traditional peas and potatos on the inside. The Mediterranean spread was a bit diappointing, but the flatbread was straight from the oven and went well with the mint chutney of the samosas. Our salads were very good, while the main course--buttetnut squash in phyllo--was outstanding. The atmosphere was enhanced by the open shutters to the outdoors, and the service was excellent.
Absolutely amazing food. Great service. Variety of options.
We stumbled across 126 after another restaurant in town moved/changed our reservation on graduation weekend. Now, we're delighted that they did so, because it allowed us to experience 126. The meal and service were amazing. Two in our party, including me, had the pork chop--the best either of us had ever had. Everyone else's food was also incredible, including the appetizers, salads and main course. Although we likely won't be back to Iowa City since our daughter graduated, we highly recommend 126 for a nice dinner, including celebrating a Hawkeye graduation.
We went to One Twenty Six to celebrate my daughter's graduation from U of I. We made reservations in advance and when we arrived my daughter wanted to sit outside so we could listen to the saxophone street musician while we dined. The service was wonderful, very helpful. Food was cooked to perfection and portions were just right. Only downside is the high prices. We would definitely go again for a special occasion.
Only problem was with the menu. It was different than on open table. Great pork chop, Creme Brulee.
A quiet evening with excellent food and service. An interesting fusion menu and a quaint, charming restaurant. The owner is on the premises and is a caring and genial presence. Terrific after a long drive from Wichita.
It was an interesting and varied selection. Enjoyed our meal and the overall experience.
Food tastes fine but is very overpriced and isnt anything special.
Hello Leslie, I am sorry you found the dinner to be over priced. The tenderloin you had is dry aged and grass fed, and we believe is a great bargain at 45 dollars. The etouffe with house-smoked organic chicken, house-made andouille sausage with shrimp at 21 dollars is rather inexpensive. Thanks, Mathew
Fantastic experience for adults. Exactly why we went. Grown up food, service by grownups who know things about food and wine and service. Food prepared by grownups with taste and complexity. Well done One Twenty Six. Setting the bar rather high, aren’t you?
My husband and I went to One Twenty Six to celebrate his birthday. The food was fantastic, service was impeccable, the cocktails were good. And at the end of our meal when the waitress brought our dessert to us, she told us it was on the house as a birthday gift. Always a winning tactic!
Absolutely, hands down awesome food. Warm and inviting. Staff was outstanding.
Food is always on point The staff in knowledgeable and very attentive. If you want a great experience with excellent food & service I highly reccomend One Twenty Six. It is quite pricey but also worth it.
A favorite in Iowa City's downtown area. Foodie dishes in an upscale yet energetic atmosphere. You will hear and see the kitchen but we like that. Nice wine list. Also appreciated flexibility on sides and accompaniments to entrees for diet needs or personal preference. Excellent establishment.
