One North Kitchen & Bar Ratings and Reviews
I am a long-time customer (work across the street), but last time I was there (1/30) the 'grilled salmon' I was served in my salad was raw inside. I mentioned something to the server - instead of preparing a new salad and/or piece of salmon, the server asked that I put my half-eaten, raw salmon on a side plate from my table for it to be cooked to further (is this even sanitary?). A couple minutes later, the re-cooked salmon came out, but again it was still raw inside and I could not eat it.
Additionally, I was asked by the staff multiple times if I "was done with my meal," despite the fact I was clearly still eating. It felt very rushed, the food was cold/under-cooked, and overall it was just a dysfunctional experience. I will likely be back, but this bad experience tainted my view of One North.
My wife and I were visiting Chicago for a concert. I found One North through a friends suggestion and found it to be great. The restaurant is in the middle of the Theater District and was easy to find. They had a great bar selection and many different food options. The service was excellent and the kitchen had our food ready super fast. They are used to people being on a schedule to make their concert or play destination on time. I will absolutely visit One North on my next trip to Chicago.
Excellent menu with fresh choices. Unique dishes by wonderful chef whom greeted us as we left. We happened to be there for restaurant week and choices were fabulous. My husband and I chose different dishes and all were very tasty and unique. I’d definitely go back to try something different. Many complaints on noise level. Sadly it was loud but wouldn’t stop us from going back.
One North Kitchen & Bar is the greatest choice for dinner before a night at the opera. My scallops were prepared just right, and the spaghetti squash accompanying them was an inspired choice. Phil’s salmon looked perfect. Our bottle of Malbec was very nice. Finishing with a shared creme brûlée and s couple of cups of coffee: the perfect ending. Thanks to our server, a real pro.
I was in Chicago and was looking for something close to my hotel for dinner my first night there. I found One North to be a very good place for casual dining with good beer and desserts, friendly staff and very well thought out comfort food. Staff was friendly and accommodating. A good choice for casual dining.
The 4 of us enjoyed our meals. From the Midwestern Cobb to the Burger of the Day to Grilled cheese and tomato soup - our meals were excellent. However, the noise traveled all around and we could not hear one another, which isn't the fault of the location, but is something to note. If you want to enjoy conversation with your dining companions, that may not be possible. Otherwise, food was very tasty and portions were quite ample.
My sister and I have been to One North Kitchen & Bar several times before the opera. The décor is stunning, the food is delicious, the wine list is interesting, and the service is friendly and efficient. However, the restaurant is noisy. That's OK because we don't linger on opera nights; but it must be a negative for business meetings or romantic dinners.
We had a fantastic dining experience at One North on Saturday evening before attending the Lyric, conveniently located across the street.
Deep beer, wine and spirits selection and varied selection of appetizers. Almost went for the BBQ shrimp and grits, but opted for the Paese flatbread instead. The flaked parmesan cheese gave it a nice kick.
My son opted for the NY Strip (mrare) which is offered on Saturday nights and I enjoyed the seared sea scallops. The scallops were fantastic - not my usual expectation for seafood in the midwest.
Very succulent and garnished with squash and apple curry butter sauce for a Fall taste. I sampled my son's steak and it was very tender and flavored well by the trimmed border of fat.
The service was excellent. Our server Rob was very patient and did not hurry us from start to finish. I was surprised when Erica from the Kitchen stopped by the table to talk about the scallops before and after our meal. And Fadi, the GM, also stopped by to make sure everything was meeting our expectations, leading to a nice chat.
Relaxed at our table with dessert and coffee until about 20 minutes before the curtain and then ambled across the street with plenty of time to get to our seats.
I think we've found our pre-opera dining spot for the coming season! Definitely returning and looking forward to sample other menu offerings.
