Love those artichoke hearts. Where are the fish tacos?
Really good place to eat. I went for business lunch. Nice staff. Great food.
Way to noisy to have business lunch
We took several job candidates to dinner here this past Thursday. Laura and her staff do a terrific job of making everyone feel welcome. I continue to eat here because they treat us like family, in addition to the food being outstanding (you must order the brussel sprouts appetizer!)
I’ve been to ONKB multiple times and EVERY time I have gone - including this week - the soda has been flat and needs to be replaced. That always seems to take 15-20 minutes. At my visit this week, my burger was supposed to be medium rare and it was absolutely charred. For my taste, it was too noisy for a work meeting. I have always had good service though! I’ve given it a few tries, but I won’t be going back.
Service was good. Food was delicious.
Salad not good. Chicken was tough.
We had a party of 5 - water was kept full (very important to me!). Very attentive waitress and bus staff. Suggestions made by waitress were of value and delicious! Food was of excellent quality.
Generally a good experience like others I have had here. At times I felt the waiter was subtly encouraging us to finish so they could turnover the table even though there were empty tables in the restaurant.
Always have a great time. We usually ask for Cheri’s section. She’s an amazing server and makes our lunch dates fun. Food great and drinks. We go before the opera.
Lovely dinner but the season is over :(
Erica thank you and wish you all the best!!! Thank you to the staff and see you soon.
My lunch which was the main chicken dish with roasted sweet potatoes should have been awesome. Flavor was there. My roasted sweet potatoes were defiantly not roasted and were RAW. I could not stab them with a fork. I would have told waiter that and got a beverage refill if he ever came back. (Andrew). When I finished around my raw potatoes, bus boy came by. I told him. Said he’d tell waitor. Never did. We told waiter. He apologized. Bad service, terrible cooking. Restaurant not crowded.
Went to lunch with co-workers and had a great time! The food was very tasty--I had the calamari and a steak salad (the steak was cooked perfectly, by the way)! My coworkers enjoyed their food as well. I can't remember the young lady's name that waited on us, but she was an absolute doll and very helpful & knowledgeable about the menu. We didn't have wine THIS TIME since we had to return to work, but the list was exclusive. Will I return? MOST definitely!
Across the street from Opera house. Great for before the show. Food was good, not great, but easy for going to the opera.
Veggie burger was missing all the topper ingredients mentioned in the menu. Rather than offering an option, they brought the leather like bare burger to the table with apologies. My dining partner had pasta bolognese with sausage—but he couldn’t find the sausage. Convenient to the Chicago Lyric Opera and would be a terrific place to eat if the food was something more than mediocre.
It was Saturday night and they had a quite limited menu. One of our party was disappointed that the turkey burger was not available. The hamburger was very good. We had to wait a long time for re-fills of our drinks. The room is very nice and we had a good time.
One North Kitchen and Bar has consistently good food and is a great place to go before a performance at the Lyric Opera. They also validated our parking at One South Wacker, which lasted all night, and was wonderful for the opera. Service was good and food very good; my only complaint was that there were no liqueurs for an after dinner coffee with liqueur (eg: Baileys, no brandy (!), etc). We walked over to have a coffee at the Lyric, but it would have been nice to have one at the table. Otherwise a good, and consistently good, experience.
Great place to go before Lyric Opera performance! Drinks were well made, food was quickly served and very good!
Wonderful service and delicious food
Efficient service before the opera
This is the third time I've been here and it just seems to get better each time. Our wine and entree were excellent. We both had the salmon and it was amazing. So different with a yummy light sauce, tiny potatoes and beets that were so flavorful. We were there on a Friday night and were seated promptly with a 6pm reservation. There wasn't an empty seat in the place. Our server was pleasant and very efficient. We were attending the opera and were pleased with the speed of service and payment. Great experience! I will be back!
Thank you Erica and your staff for the nice dinner. I do recommend the scallops and the asparagus.
Very nice and friendly staff as usual.
See you next week!!!
Solid menu options. I had the risotto and added shrimp at the waiter's suggestion. Glad he suggested it. We were there on a pre-opera Friday evening. Very loud and busy. Will go back at an off time to enjoy the food and space.
Too noisy. Kitchen closed early with no warning. Food bland. Waiter not responsive.
My daughter and I went here post-opera. We had been here before and both thought the menu had been more inventive and dinner-oriented than the one-page we were given on Thursday. We were seated in the corner of the bar, given a menu and forgotten about for 10 minutes. When the server came over I asked if what we had was the bar menu or the whole restaurant menu. She said its always been like that - at least for the year she had been there. She gave us water and disappeared. 10 minutes later someone else took our order. Burger was good, as was the chicken my daughter had, just not what we were in the mood for. It took another 10 minutes to get the check. We spent more time waiting than eating or enjoying ourselves. One North is crossed off the list of places we will visit again.
This was our second visit and it was less enjoyable than our initial visit. The waitress did not get the order correct and it was difficult to catch anyone for additional service - many staff walked by but went so fast and with all the background noise did not hear/pay attention to our calling out to them. The salmon in the salad was dry and overcooked and when mentioned to the chef on the way out her comment was "you should have said something sooner".
We had a very enjoyable meal pre opera. I recommend the salmon and calamari. The service was good and prompt. The menu is good and the food sustainable.
Had another very nice dining experience here - all 3 times so far!
Paid our compliments to Chef Erin. Staff and service is very prompt, very cordial and attentive.
Our family loves to return to One North to dine before we head across the street to the opera. It’s convenient, reasonably priced, beautifully prepared and presented. We love seeing the familiar, friendly faces we’ve come to know, and we know that the service will be impeccable. This time we all gravitated toward the scallops, which were fabulous. The wine was perfect, and Robert again took great care of us. We’ll see you again in the fall...maybe before!
Wonderful meal! Highly recommend the calamari appetizer and the salmon or linguine with clams as the main course. Great meal before crossing the street for great opera. Thank you
We chose this restaurant due to its close location to the Lyric Opera. The food was served very quickly, but it was extremely salty and not very good.
Located right across from the Lyric Opera, this is my current go-to pre-opera dinner joint. They have a special opera menu (unfortunately with no vegetarian options, but they do have some good veg specials and things on the regular menu). They are accustomed to handling the opera crowd, so get you out on time. Friendly waitstaff.
Food preparation for a side salad and entrees of salmon and whitefish was of high quality. The brownie dessert is also substantial and tasty. Service was weak. Salad arrived before the drinks did. Entrees arrived only a few minutes after the salad. Server had little sense of how to pace the meal. The restaurant is convenient to the Lyric Opera and prices are less than at other Loop restaurants. But patrons might be best advised not to order a new course until they have finished the previous one.
Disappointing. Picked this because its across the street from the Lyric Opera House. Checked out their website and the menu looked interesting, and affordable. Arrived, and they offered a special menu only for the Opera. Limited, and jacked up prices! Food was bland - at best. Flatbread Chicken appetizer lacked any taste at all, could have used spices - anything to offset just diced chicken and cheddar cheese melted on flatbread. Salmon Niciose Salad was better...nicely prepared salmon, but nothing to brag about. Again, a few spices could have dressed the whole thing up and brought it to another level. Nice ambiance, good service...no problem there.
My girlfriend and I went here before going to the Lyric for a performance. We were hungry but not overly. We ended up splitting the risotto (which was delicious!) and ordering some sides. Super delicious! And our waiter was super helpful with our wine selection. Service was great We arrived at the restaurant at 6:15 and made it to the Lyric by 7:30. We will be coming back!
Good service! Decent food! Lively atmosphere! Great location!
The food and service was good. This is a good place for group gatherings, very noisy.
Very good xperience
Good food and good service. Fast. Tasty dessert.
There was nothing wrong with the restaurant, but it was nothing like I read in the OT reviews. It probably has 1 of the smallest dinner menu's in Chicago and I wouldn't recommend this place if you're hungry and want to see what Chicago Dining is all about. 1 North is nothing more than a place to grab a drink and appetizer before attending the Lyric Opera across the street. DO NOT go for a "dinner date." They close at 9pm on a Saturday, thats all you need to know.
