One Midtown Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
Went to ONE on a rather special date the day following Thanksgiving and had an excellent time. We had reservations, were seated immediately, and our server was remarkably helpful and friendly, without lingering or being intrusive (his name escapes me, unfortunately).
ONE's three greatest attributes are its location (in a great neighborhood for going out afterward), the aforementioned service, and the dining environment.
There were plenty of tables full of big groups while we were there, but I never felt the need to raise my voice, nor did I need our waiter to repeat anything. The interior of the restaurant is whimsical, but not too playful or casual. The lighting is such that I could read the menus fine, but not as though you're sitting in a terrarium.
I recommend going in on a Friday evening for their somewhat poorly named "Hook Up Special," which includes something like two glasses of wine, a shared appetizer, a shared entree, and shared dessert for $35. We skipped the glasses and got a bottle and our meal came out to around $80 with tips.
The food is well-prepared, smart, and timely, though I wouldn't necessarily recommend the Flat-Iron steak. I felt the chimmichurri lacked the garlicky/vinegar punch it should carry (the meat was cooked perfectly, though).
Certainly a place I'll revisit in the future to try cocktails and more entree options.
The food was definitely the star. My spouse and I both enjoyed our meal. However, the restaurant was extremely cold so be sure to bring a jacket! My spouse is never cold and we both kept our jackets/coats on during the meal. Service left a bit to be desired. After taking our order, our waiter literally did not return to the table until he brought the check. He never offerred beverage refills nor did he check to see that the order was satisfactory (another staffer brought the order out). Again, the food was good and the portions were large. We would return with the hope of receiving more attentive service.
The atmosphere is lively but loud. Trendy decor and nice lighting. Menu is not memorable and drinks are small. Octopus was under cooked and not appetizing. We sent it back but they still charged us. When asked to take it off the bill, they did but added another entree which was supposed to be covered by a coupon. The coupon was a nice gesture but very sleezy that they overcharged us. Needless to say, we won't be back.
Did not live up to past experiences. They had run out of my first choice and the choice that was recommended to me (scallops) was lackluster. The aloe drink was pretty disgusting and "globby." The gnocchi was good, but a better side dish than full meal. The duck was good, the filet was too small and undercooked.
We went to One Midtown Kitchen for a milestone birthday in our group of four people. I have been going to OMK for years and the food and atmosphere remains good. However, our service was so bad that overshadowed our celebration. The waiter could not answer the most basic questions about the menu; we had to ask 3 times to have glasses so we could drink our wine (which took the first half hour of our visit without a drink); we even had to ask him to open the bottle!; we went for extended periods of time without water; he checked on us so infrequently that we felt compelled to order things not knowing when we would see him again. If it were a busy night, I could understand some of the problems. However, it was less than half full. It threw a highly anticipated gathering into an awkward evening. As much as I have always liked OMK, I think I am done.
It was our 2yr anniversary and we had the most wonderful time! Ella, our wonderful server, started us off with complimtary champagne. Chef Candler sent out some special dishes (gluten free for me) that were delicious beyond description. Everything was perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned and the special bananas foster ice cream was the perfect ending! Also I love that not only did they more than one port wine, but Ella recommended the perfect one! We can’t wait to come back!
I took my wife here for a birthday dinner. The appetizers we got were outstanding. Calamari, with an intriguing and unique sauce, and, believe it or not, the most amazing hushpuppies I think I've ever had in my life. We also got the beets which were not very impressive.
I ordered their hamburger which was great, the fries were good that came with it but a little pedestrian and far too many of them. The pizza was too salty and just quite plain really.
My wife ordered a cocktail and it was delicious and unique, It had some sort of rose syrup. I got a beer and am pleased that they had quite a selection on tap.
ONE midtown kitchen was so beautiful 15 years ago that we got married there in 2003. And, have celebrated our anniversaries since, always at our special table. It is still as beautiful as the first time I was there and the staff is so welcoming; regardless of a special occasion or an everyday dinner. I highly recommend, especially the octopus. Enjoy!
Was very nice location, great service and the food was quite good. I had the duck and it was delicious. My partner was not so lucky as they were out of the one vegetarian main course offered on the menu. Expected more vegetarian options from an establishment that markets itself as upscale.
