A special celebration, we had a great table, a wonderful waiter, and it was just the perfect place to spend time with friends and enjoy a great meal!
One of the great physical spaces in all the world. But the service was clumsy and the food was between pedestrian and downright bad. Very disappointing. It has gone way downhill from what used to be a fine restaurant.
Food and ambiance was fine as was noise level. My major objection was the waiter who kept suggesting we add to our order—appetizers, side dishes, dessert. This was lunch! It’s not what I’d expect from a fine dining experience, something more akin to a Friday’s or Olive Garden.
Located near Hyatt Regency Hotel and Ferry Building at San Francisco waterfront. Reachable by BART. Valet parking available. The service is excellent. The dishes are good but somewhat expensive. Our party tried the beef cheek for the very first time. It was quite good. Will most likely good back for special occasions.
The waiter recommended the Flounder and it was wonderful.
Great EXCEPT for nose level. Get a consultant.
Always exchange my Giants tickets with a friend for the last 17 years. Never disappointed.
The waiter and servers were highly professional and excellent. I give them full compliments. The food was quite good.
Went there for my birthday with another family and had a great dinner. The food was good, especially the Beef Tongue and the Scallops.
Server was great even with kids there and Tonya the sommelier paired our meals with the perfect red blend that a was a delicious value.
Thanks One Market!
Food was great. Our server was exceptional. Would recommend this place
Over more than two decades, One Market has delivered fine food creatively prepared.
Having dined at One Market almost from the day it opened, I must say it is trending downward. The lunch menu is less expansive, and the offerings less enticing. The food is uneven-decent gnocchi, but the flounder fell flat, you should pardon the pun. But for the good location and generally good service, this would no longer be my choice for a business lunch, much less for a special occasion.
Waiter was great and food was delicious. Only issue was the host. My colleague had a plane to catch so we were hoping to be seated a bit early so we can leave quick. We made reservations at 5:30pm and got there at 5:27pm. We were told we still could not be seated. It was only a 3 minute difference so we did not see the big deal in being seated.......
Excellent service, food and ambiance. High ceilings and lots of room between tables makes it easy to talk
We had drinks in their cozy bar and then a lovely dinner in the restaurant. We had a wonderful round table that was perfect for conversation and the service, wine, and food were excellent!!
Felt a little rushed by waiter. Hurried to eat our food. Food was great but could have used a little more time to eat and talk. Dinner isn't speed lunch but we made it work.
Around the world I've been to hundreds of eating establishments in all the continents and now I can add the long list " One Market ".
Where to start? Well the people! Immaculately attired with an attitude of efficiency that is a joy to behold.
As for ambiance the corner lot on one of the USA's most famous streets sets the tone, with the above , for the meal!
When it arrived I wasn't sure whether to eat it or take it home for decoration as it was so beautifully presented.
To quote two famous Americans one told the Philippines " I will return ". The other a more "local " personage said " I'll be back". My sentiments exactly
Service staff seemed a bit off.
Always a good choice for good food and service.
One Market consistently meets our expectations and, many times exceeds them. I had the swordfish with Meyer Lemon gremolata and my friend had the pork tenderloin (his standard choice). All I can say is Yum! and Yum!
We used to be regulars, but for various reasons, we had not been there in 18 months. Definitely heartwarming when staff heard we were "in the house" and made it a point to stop by the Chef's Counter where we were seated to say hi and welcome back. It's that kind of a place.
Will add One Market back into our restaurant rotation. THANK YOU to Larry and the wonderful staff!!!
Hadn't been to One Market in a decade. 'Love the look/feel and the staff was lovely. The food was awful. Steak was chewy to the point of sub-Outback w/o the tenderizer. The Sea Bass was tough/stringy. I eat Sea Bass all the time and never experienced this... not sure it even was Sea Bass.
It will be at least another decade. Too bad
We had the lunch special, two courses for $25. That’s a good value. The additional crab/butternut squash soup we ordered to share was $19, hence the 4 stars for value. Excellent service although the collision between the server and a bus person resulted in a glass of white wine getting spilled into Tom’s coat pocket of his leather jacket and hat that was in the pocket. Profuse apologies and offers to pay for dry cleaning followed. No permanent staining so no dry cleaning needed. Smoked brisket excellent. Skate in brown butter caper sauce good.
I hadn't been to One Market in a while and I was again reminded how good it is. I was there for lunch and had the quinoa salad; my friend had the crab cakes. Both were outstanding. The blending of flavors in the salad was wonderful. My only complaint is that it is very noisy, but that is common in restaurants now.
Lovely Valentine’s Dinner. Food and service were great. Special thanks to the manager Oscar and the wine director Tanya for being so personable, attentive, and making sure everything was on point.
Valentine’s Day dinner was good! Excellent service, romantic ambience, live piano, food was alright.
Very nice ambience. Paid $99 pp for Valentine’s Day and did not feel we got our money’s worth for the prefixe priced dinner. Neither of us liked the cabbage on the duck or the fish. Dungeness Crab salad was tasty but small. Apple torte and chocolate dessert were also both small portions but were very tasty. Zinfandel glass of wine was excellent for $16. Service was excellent. Enjoyed pianist although tried to sit farther away so we could hear each other talk.
The fixed priced lunch was outstanding. Salad and a main course. Excellent presentation and selection of sauce and extras. The brittle cake to die for.
One Market is always on the #1 list! Have been dining there in the last 10 years and hasn't failed once.
I've dined here at least monthly for the last 3 years. Initially the food was very good. But in the last 6 months, the plate looks the same, but the food on the plate increasingly sucks.
This week I ordered the dry cured, bone-in NY strip medium rare. Part of it was medium rare, and the rest twitched when stuck with my fork. More importantly, this $45 piece of meat was extremely lean and 'CA via TX' tough -- like it walked here from there on a Jason Fung diet. If I want a collagen-rich diet, I can order Jello.
Who ever is in charge of the kitchen, they need someone new. In the interim, they need to deliver a credible ROI. Perha;s I will go back in 6 months and report if progress is being made. In the interim, go somewhere else.
The seared scallops over risotto was delicious! and the bar made a good Manhattan.
Great dinner. We dined during their Thank you SF half off event. Made the whole meal particularly good whe. Its half off. Food was good all around....but at half off was great.
The food and service at One Market is always superior.
We had a fabulous dinner. The chicken was the best I ever had. The crab soup was delish. Save room for desert.
We went for their 25th anniversary and everything was 1/2 off. The place was packed but the food and service were still great. No complaints.
One Market is a favorite in San Francisco and I've been enjoying their menu since they opened 25 years ago. It is always a special treat and this particular evening was exceptional plus half price off everything (including wine list, food, cocktails, etc.) to celebrate their 25th year. We started with oysters on the half shell and went on to enjoy day boat scallops, swordfish and beef cheeks, topped off by a selections of scrumptious desserts. It was all wonderful. The service, however, was spotty as this Friday evening was crowded and congested because of the special pricing offer whereas on a normal evening, it is spot on. I'm already planning my return visit.
One Market remains one of my favorite SF restaurants overall - beautiful setting at the foot of Market Street, reliably good food, excellent wine list and top notch service. On this occasion I had the grilled octopus. This was the best I'd ever had, and I've traveled extensively to Asia and the Mediterranean. Main course was day boat scallops that were incredibly fresh. One Market uses the freshest ingredients, and things that are simply grilled, seared or spit-roasted are wonderful. However, the accompaniments on the plate can be a little inconsistent. For example, the scallops came with spinach clusters that were a bit stringy, and the truffle jus was just mediocre compared to how great the scallops were. But all in all, this is still one of the best places in SF for any occasion.
a group of 3 persons dined at One Market on a special night for the restaurant--EVERYTHING was 1/2 priced, including wine and cocktails! Because of the 1/2 price night, we anticipated a less than stellar meal and service but were extremely pleasantly surprised. Cocktails, appetizers, main courses and desserts were all excellent and the service was terrific.
We will definitely return (even at full price).
We lunched on the day that One Market was celebrating its 25th anniversary with 50% off on food and cocktails. That was an incredible deal, as everything was really wonderful--but normally quite expensive--although they DO offer a two-course business lunch for $25 with optional $5 for dessert. We started with the best item: the most delicious and melt-in-one's-mouth octopus I have ever had, on top of an avocado mash and chorizo sauce. It was much tastier than I make it sound. We had a yummy potato-leek soup with trumpet mushrooms and nettles and then petrale sole in an Asian sauce with bok choy. Food and service were standouts. My cocktail wasn't what I had expected, but our server very graciously replaced it with a glass of wine that was fine. Prices, especially wine, were quite high, so I will return, but only for the business lunch or a special event.
I had the prix-fixe lunch with a wonderful potato-leek soup, beautifully served and then a delicious sole. You can indulge in a small portion of dessert for a small amount extra. Do it! Service was wonderful and you could hear yourself and your dining partner talk -- rare these days. Beautiful spot.
We were there for the half price 25th anniversary and it was lovely, EXCEPT, it is very, very
noisy. A large place with lots of people, so that is just the way it is. I would not recommend
this spot for those hard of hearing. Food was wonderful and very artfully presented.
Dessert is yummy!
