   Tucked just off the Art Walk, Omakai delivered one of the most memorable meals I’ve had in Baja. The omakase tasting menu was perfectly curated—each course thoughtfully paced and beautifully executed, with a clear respect for seasonality and technique. From seared salmon with truffle to melt-in-your-mouth nigiri, every bite was dialed in. Service was warm, attentive, and intuitive without ever being overbearing. The drink program held its own, with a great mix of cocktails and sake options that elevated the experience. The atmosphere struck that sweet spot: modern, minimalist, and intimate, without trying too hard. Omakai isn’t just a sushi restaurant—it’s an experience. Easily a top recommendation if you’re anywhere near San José del Cabo. Very much Michelin worthy - hopefully one day we see Omakai receive their star!

   I had wanted to change our reservation from the standard terrace to Teppanyaki. I went onto OpenTable and clicked modify to find that all cancellations and modifications must be made by phone. I called the number on OpenTable, which is also on their Facebook page, only to find that it has been suspended. I called three times over two days. We arrived at Omakai and I asked if we could change to Teppanyaki. The manager said that the change had to be done 24 hours in advance. She said it can be done on OpenTable. I explained that it couldn't and that it had to be done by phone. However, their number was suspended. She could not have cared less and was quite rude. My wife said that if we had not brought guests that we would have left right there. As the former owner of two restaurants, I am very surprised that a Michelin Bibs recommended restaurant would behave in this fashion. The food and service were fine but the experience had already been ruined.

   Amazing food but very expensive and they charge for extra wasabi even though they give two people the size of a Nickel to start with.

   I have been eating sushi for over 40 years and last night eating here was one of my best experiences ever. The service was amazing, the presentation and the food was outstanding, the chefs put on a wonderful show. This was one of the best Omakase experiences that I’ve ever had in my life. I am so glad that we found this restaurant.

   Best sushi we’ve had in a while and also the best service we’ve had in many years. Extremely attentive service and genuine care. We ate here twice during our stay. One time wasn’t enough. Our favourites: mezcalita cocktail, fried gyozas (expectacular) the tuna nigiri platter and the omakai roll. You won’t regret it!

   Amazing experience, from the decor, to the knowledgeable and friendly service, to accommodating some dietary needs, and above all, the food is jaw droppingly good!! The accolades are well deserved, and this should be a can’t miss dining experience when in town!

   Still trying to make sense of the experience. The gyoza appetisers were cold. Grocery store sushi rice is refrigerator cold, while expensive sushi bar rice should not be. If there was any vinegar in the rice, as there should be in sushi rice, I couldn’t taste it. I have never been told in Japan to pick up sushi with my fingers, yet the local chefs who have never been to Japan insisted that’s the proper way to eat sushi. I’ve never seen Ponzu sauce presented with sushi before. At New York City prices. Next time, I’ll save my sushi dollars for an authentic experience.

    We were excited to try this Michelin suggested spot. The staff was friendly especially the restaurant manager. I booked the terrace after reading about the 3 seating/menu options and we were seated at the sushi bar with an overwhelming chef curated experience as the option. I nearly had a panic attack and we were moved to the terrace. The server was nice but forgot half of my order but I wasn’t charged for it. They were out of some menu items I had looked forward to. He also never checked on us again but the manager did. The sushi that was “spicy” had no taste at all. The ramen my wife had, however, was amazing. There are kinks to work out and we will give it another try on our next visit. Maybe it was just an off day.
