Olón - Tropicana Atlantic City Ratings and Reviews
Food was ok.You have to wait a long time for your dinner. My wife dinner came 20 minute before I got my dish.I visit Trop every other weekend.Love Fin.I probally ate at fin over 50 times. How can you have a restaurant with no pasta. The side dish was very limited.
Only open 1 week, Olon still needs to work out some of the kinks. We ordered a drink at the bar before dinner - the waitress gave us a rundown of wines by the glass - so we ordered one - turns out her list did not match what the restaurant really offered, so we were faced with calling over the GM to help solve the problem...strange, right? With that said, the food was pretty tasty. The idea is to order "small plates" for sharing. They do offer a full-sized "regular" dinner at the bottom of the menu. We shared quite a few dishes and found the empanadas to be absolutely outstanding. The skewers were so salty - to the point of not being able to eat them. We ordered too much food - out waiter was not a great guide to helping us manage the amount of food. He kept saying that we did not order too much - then came by at the end of dinner to say that we ordered so much food....which is it??? All in all, there are other restaurants that offer a better overall dining experience.
Really was looking forward to eating here for our anniversary! What a dissapointment. Over priced, couldn't get one order of empanadas right. Brought out 3 different orders and they still weren't what we asked for! $50.00 steak i ordered came out cold , ewww. They really need to work things out before opening. Over priced, not worth it. I'll stick to cuba libra for empanadas and steak.
I arrived early for my 9:00PM reservation and was able to get a seat almost immediately. I was seated, and introduced to Barbara (my waitress), who gave me a quick explanation about the menus and the tapa concept. As I was dining alone that evening, I opted to choose three appetizers, a vegetable, along with a bottle of wine. I ordered a nice Verdejo (a 2013 Marques De Riscal), as I tend to love whites. The Wagyu Carpaccio was excellent. The warm vinaigrette, crispy garlic, and trout roe made a great tasting experience. I can't explain how great the taste is when those roe eggs break open and add their unique flavor to the Wagyu. The Crispy Chicken appetizer was a pleasant surprise. When you made a taste bite of the chicken, the aioli, and the criolla, you got an incredible taste that just seemed to dance on the tongue. And the Scallop Gratinee, with the parmesan cream was another great bite. And my side veggie, the grilled asparagus, was a great choice with the parmesan espuma.
For dessert, Barbara recommended the Coconut Parfait, which I had with a double espresso and an X.O. Pyrate rum. The parfait was another hit as the flavors of pistachios cream, and mango blend with the coconut. It was the perfect topper to a great meal. It was a great dining experience and I look forward to getting back there on my next trip into A.C.
The food is simply amazing, I usually don't like having to go into AC or a restaurant within a hotel but this place is worth it. The view and the food is spectacular. The meals are served to share which is up my alley as I love tasting different things. The menu is not extensive but still presents a lot of variety. The service was great and the waiters were all incredibly attentive. I'm dying to go back!
From our drink at the bar to dinner we were extremely satisfied. Our server Maurice and his partner Loc were outstanding. Very attentive and not overbearing. Superb knowledge of the menu and the wine list. We have been going there since it was Wellington's and we were glad to see Maurice is still there.
Absolutely Amazing! Every item on this menu is mouth watering delicious! We had light bar food - oysters, empanadas and chicken appetizer, everything was so fresh and tasty!! I had there chili infused tequila cocktail, packed with some heat but You can't put it down. We ended up also having dinner here. We indulged in the high end chef 10 plate tasting menu. Get your palate ready - bread with guava butter, octopus ceviche, guacamole with yucca and plantain chips, spinach empanadas, waygu beef, jumbo prawns and so much more ( the chef selects your entrees). Amazing experience!! Go ahead and try it you won't regret it!!!
Chef Garces is a very talented chef, I've eaten at his former restaurant Amada in the Revel and the food was exceptional. His new restaurant in the Tropicana hotel Olon is just as good except for the wait staff. We had the tasting menu, every dish was prepared incredibly from appearance to taste. I just wished the food runners and waiter would have explained every detail of his dishes.
Staff, while all new were very friendly, and accomodating. Everyone was knowledgable and the Hospitality Manager (beautiful woman who's name begins with an "A") was so helpful. we were early for our reservation and were looking for a cocktail. She took us through a candy shop to the other restaurant he has and right to the sushi bar for a sake and the best prok belly buns we have ever had.
Thank you for awonderful evening!
Brand new place in the Tropicana and wanted to give it a chance because I loved FIN . Was worried when I saw it saw empty 6-7 PM on a busy Saturday hotel night. The place is nice - the view still spectacular but I had my issues why I will " not return" . First - NO RICE / How are you a restaurant serving so many Spanish like dishes and do not offer rice as a side? Next there was an option Chefs Choice Sampler which was a " mystery dish" that made no sense to me - I want to know what coming and I am paying for. Am I wrong? The prices were steep for the portion sizes BUT the main issue I was very unhappy with and I voiced this to the server and MGR - I am there with my date and I ordered the chicken and she ordered the $85 Surf & Turf . My dish came out 25 minutes before hers . I sat and sat and waited but not wanting it to get cold I began to eat and asked them why wouldn't you bring BOTH out at same time and was told it comes out at the Chefs discretion - so when I go out with a person and spend $150 I want to EAT WITH THEM so one and done for me - I really wish they left FIN alone . Good luck.
Service was great and extremely attentive. Everything was extremely fresh and well prepared, seasoned to perfection. We ordered a little of everything and each dish was as equally impressive as the ones before it and after. Dessert made an already great experience even better. Will definitely be back!
Everything about this new restaurant is spectacular: the creative menu, the vibrant flavors of the food, the professional, caring, and friendly servers, and las, but not least, the amazing view of the ocean. The tropical atmosphere is enhanced by the music which makes you feel like you are in Chef Jose Garces hometown of Olon, Ecuador. We are telling everyone about this place
Went for lunch during AC Restaurant Week twice. Food was tapas/small plates & I definitely got a good deal for my $15.17 Restaurant Week pre-fixe lunch. Each plate runs between $10-$18, so that bill can add up fast. The sandwiches are generous in size & should be the "entree" if you're looking to fill up Otherwise, the bar area would be a good way to grab a bite & drink if you're looking for something small to tide you over. The food is delicious & a Foodie's delight with the techniques put into it. Get the Coconut Custard for dessert, it's beautiful & delicious.
Had a nice Restaurant Week lunch here. Starter was the Guacamole which came with Plantain & Taro chips. The Guacamole was excellent & tasted very fresh. It was a large portion. My Fish Sandwich was Mahi Mahi fish on a bun with french fries and a cabbage slaw. It was tasty but the sandwich fell apart after you bit into it. It was not my favorite because it was too sloppy looking to enjoy. Dessert was a wonderful Coconut Parfait. It was a beautiful presentation and tasted very refreshing and delicious.
Service was good...nothing outstanding but good. Servers are probably in the learning curve since Olon just opened on March 4. Only the Guacamole appetizer came out first. It was a while before the other 2 appetizers ordered by my dining companions (Shrimp Ceviche & Tuna Tiradito) came out.
It was a very romantic place. We enjoyed it so much. We had the guacamole and it was delicious. We also had the empanadas and it was very good. Also would definitely recommend the coconut parfait. It was amazing. I am definitely going back next time I am in AC
For whatever reason, this new dining spot was almost empty at 10:00 pm on a Friday night.
We enjoyed the small plate concept because neither of us are big eaters. My only peeve, and it is not limited to this restaurant, is the scarcity of vegetarian options on the menu. This appears to be the case throughout the Atlantic City casino restaurants. I had the Guacamole and chips and 2 spinach empanadas which were good. There really was not a lot on the menu that I could have eaten, except for some of the "sides". It's a shame that there can't be at least one entree on the menu that can be eaten by a vegan. Nonetheless, my non-vegetarian husband had the salmon, and he really liked it. The best part of our experience was our server, Monica. She was efficient and delightful. Would we go back? Yes, for sure.
Totally enjoyed our meal here. Went during AC restaurant week for lunch. Split with a friends; we loved every. Cheese empanadas, fresh guacamole with plantain and yuca root chips to start. Wonderful pulled pork sandwich with just the right touch of heat, a fried fish sandwich with a crispy slaw for the main course. Finished off with flan and a coconut mango parfait. Also really enjoyed the top notch service from Barbara and Jorge, beautiful view of the beach, laid back tropical vibe and a the drink Solo a la playa. YUMMMM.
GO. YOU WONT REGRET IT!
They also had a lot of other choices, raw bar, ceviches, paella.
Is a beautiful elegant place to celebrate a special day or to stop by at the bar for drinks and appetizer I ordered the Peruvian ceviche the roast chicken and also the skirt steak have a great flavor and was delicious. The server Lizy was amazing thanks for recomend the cocunut parfait !! We love it!!
We went for restaurant week even though the menu was not posted. The food was terrific. Guacamole, empanadas, fish and pork sandwiches, flan, and coconut custard. Our server was very good and handled multiple tables. The view, room set up and decor are great. Our only concern is the wine by the glass seemed like a small pour.
Great to have this chef back in AC!
Olon was terrific. Our server, Stacy Smith was terrific. She knew the menu, made great suggestions and has an awesome personality. We ordered just the right number of small plates, with room to share a dessert. We especially liked the yucca fries, fried fish plate and the empanada sampler. We will definitely return.
We went here for my birthday dinner and was left with none other then an amazing experience. Our server Cindy (S) she made us feel so welcomed, special and even gave us a little tour since the place is new! She gave us great recommendations and paid attention to every detail of our dining experience and requests. The food was phenomenal and full of flavor! Definitely recommend!!!!!!
This is the old Fin,one of my favorite places, white washed, light and airy. Marisol of the old Fin staff was working. We dined for lunch and everything was spectacular -- the view, the ambience and the food.
We ordered off the Restaurant Week menu and deliberately ordered differently so we could sample. My appetizer was a ricotta, mozzarella filled empanada. I think the ricotta was home made, light and fresh, and the shell was perfectly fried. My friend had the plantain chips with salsa. Again,
they were perfectly fried. I had the pork sandwich with jalapeno pepper and she the chicken with bacon. Being from South Philly, I can be a bit fussy about my roasted pork but this was perfect on the dark, hearty roll. The chicken sandwich was equally enjoyed. Both sandwiches came with thinly sliced fries, maybe the best I have eaten. Desserts were either flan, excellent, or a coconut mango parfait with pistashio, a micro food confection that was outstanding. The decaf coffee, served from a silver pot, and the green tea were also very good.
This restaurant opened a few days ago but you would never know it. The food and service were as good as Fin.
This was the first night the restaurant opened. The food was pricey. We started with drinks and they did not have either type of beer and drink we asked for. The drinks were very weak. The bread basket came with two rolls. If you wanted more it was a charge of $5.00. My husband had the wagyu steak and it was very chewy and had fat on most pieces. The fried fish appetizer was very small for two people and not impressive. My chicken on a stick was tasty. The dessert with the fresh fruit comes with kiwi and was not written on the menu that way. I am allergic to kiwi. We then ordered the coconut parfait which was very good. We would not return to the restaurant but eat outside at the bar. Better menu.
