Olón - Tropicana Atlantic City Ratings and Reviews
The food and the service were outstanding! We had the chef’s tasting menu and was very fun trying food from each part of the menu.
Empanadas, civiche, Etamame salad, lobster and filet and two tastings from the dessert selection. The staff was fun and engaging and we wil absolutely be back!
Our food was absolutely wonderful. We had the pork flank steak which was over-the-top excellent. We also had the halibut which was a little dry but still very good we tried the shrimp ceviche which was very very good and the guacamole was excellent we followed up or meal with a coconut mango parfait which was so unique and different but oh so good. It's hard to say which was better, the food or the service. Our server "Katy" was so friendly and knew the menu so well she was able to describe almost everything on it to Us in detail. she was very helpful and probably one of the best servers we've ever had. This place was what we call a "culinary journey". This is one restaurant we will definitely be returning to.
We came for Thanksgiving dinner. The restaurant is beautiful and definitely a gem in Atlantic City. The restaurant is right in the beach with a gorgeous view. I only wish I made the reservations with light out to really take in the views. The waitress was so friendly and attentive. Not to mention the food was delicious. We had a great experience and can't wait to be back
The food was delicious. The waiter was friendly and informative, which was necessary with many of the South American dishes. It's a small-plate format restaurant, and was a bit too pricey for someone looking at the menu and not being familiar with cuisine. Glad we took a chance--we weren't disappointed!
My wife and I have wanted to go to Olon for months, so when her birthday came we decided to make a night out of it and we are so glad we did. From start to finish the whole experience was fantastic. Appetizer, entree, dessert and service was 100% P.S. I'm also a chef and tend to be critical at times. Will be back many times more.
I was extremely disappointed. I am a well traveled, cultured Spanish teacher and have eaten in top Latin restaurants nationally and internationally. Food tasted frozen and was not tasty. Next time in AC, it's back to Cuba Libre. Food, drinks, ambiance is superior to Olon and waitstaff doesn't speak to you in a condescending manner. I do not need to be told how much to order and in what time frame to do so, when I am paying. I've been around the block.
I booked a table here because we were staying at the Tropicana in Atlantic City for a date weekend. This restaurant exceeded my expectations! The ambiance was great, the meal phenomenal, and the service was stellar and personal. We loved all the small plates we shared, especially the Shrimp Ceviche and Skirt Steak Skewers.
This was our second visit to Olon. First time was during summer when it first opened and we ordered fish. Of course this visit we ate indoors. We found the roast chicken to be unusually salty and spicy. The fried shrimp was overly deep fried and the yucca potatoes too greasy. Hope this review serves to improve your food service cuisine.
Fryer needs cleaning, jumbo shrimp was horrible. Not sure if they were short staffed but constantly was waiting around for server to come to the table. Food didn’t all come at once for our main dish, after waiting more than 10 min we had to put in a request to get our remaining dish for someone at our table. Would not dine here again.
My husband and I had a 6PM dinner reservation and arrived about 10 minutes early. We were seated immediately and greeted by our server, Cheech, right away. It was our first time at this restaurant and we weren't sure how to navigate through the Tapas menu. Cheech was super knowledgeable about the menu and made fantastic suggestions. We started with the Feta & Spinach Empanadas, pork belly skewers and the fish fry combo. The pork belly skewers were amazing and literally melted in our mouths! The empanadas were ok, nothing outstanding about this selection. The Fish fry came with a delicious citrus dipping sauce - we cleaned the plates of all three. We split the NY strip steak which was cooked perfectly and had an absolutely delicious dipping sauce. We finished the mean with a coconut and pistachio parfait and it was nothing short of amazing! We for sure be back to this location!
Cheech was our server and he was exceptional at explaining the concept of the restaurant (tapas) and made recommendations. We took his suggestions and they were spot on for our dining. I strongly recommend the appetizer of the shrimp skewers and the shrimp chowder (which has a little spice to it). The Sirloin strip steak was fabulous (cooked perfectly - rare) and the chiffon desert was exceptional! .
The wine was a little high priced but very good.
The food was excellent and as a person who can only consume gluten free foods, the Cassava flour cheese rolls were an unexpected and very pleasant surprise. The excellence of the food was only usurped by the outstanding service. Ruby was a very attentive and accommodating server who never forgot that we were in her section and was pleasant and kind at all times. Highly recommend.
