This is a great place to start a fun night out. The noise level can get a bit high but the food and service are excellent and well worth having to pay attention to your dinner companions to understand what they are saying. Highly recommend trying it out if you haven't yet.
It was my first time visiting olla for my husband’s birthday. The food and services were excellent, our food was at our table real fast as well as the drinks. I am recommending olla to all my friends. Also, it reminded my grandmas house.
Everything was great, except for the fact the waitress didn’t visit our table as often as I would have expected.
This was my first visit to Olla Cocina. The best way to describe the restaurant is up scale Mexican food. I had the Totasda with fresh tuna. The food was very tasty but the portions are small. i would opt for one of the platter the next time. A wide choice of Mexican themed cocktails.
Definitely one of favourite places to eat in San Jose. Duck Tacos are the best thing on the menu.
Great food, service and atmosphere. Fun! We will be back!
Service was friendly and quick.
Always a really fun place for Mexican food
Great food! Everyone was very happy with their meal.
Best authentic quality Mexican food around! Probably my 10th trip and it’s always the same.
Portions are huge especially for 1 person not sharing. I certainly wish I was made aware so that didn’t over order. The ceviche was dry and I wouldn’t order it again. Duck tacos were good... salty and could have used more layers of flavor to balance out the abundance of meat.
Always a delight. The Duck Tacos were outstanding!
The decor and all that was good. Our service was good. But for the price no one at our table really enjoyed the food. Also we weren’t allowed to split the check 2 ways. Which is annoying and they look updated with their system so we got the vibe they just didn’t like doing it.
Food was good. Pitcher of Margaritas was average to below. Waitress was terrible. She did not place the full order in the computer. When asked where one dish was, she said “you did not order it”. No offer to go get the food or place an order. Rude and dismissive.
Fantastic food, fun atmosphere! The guacamole and salsa were delicious. Great, huge, interesting tacos. Outstanding brussel sprouts and cocktails. Good value. Will definitely go back!
Maybe it was part of the “ authentic feel” but our dishes were really chipped. Bacteria can breed in things like that and cause food born illness. Plus you are never sure if the missing piece is in your dinner
The soaps were delicious; however, the empanadas were very average.
Great food- the guacamole and house made chips is a must. Nice location. Excellent service. When we want a sit down, weekday lunch, we rarely go anywhere else.
Mexican food with a twist. Creative take on tradition Mexican dishes—ahi tuna tacos for example. Casual. In a fun downtown area.
Atmosphere was great. Service was very good.
Food was under seasoned. Not that it should be hotter, spice wise, but there should be more non hot seasoning.
The food was great, but too pricey. Why charge for chips and salsa?
Great drinks recommendations & friendly staff & delicious food!
OLLA continues to deliver. This was our 5th time and all the elements of service, atmosphere and great food play together. Loved it once again!
Great food and location
Good Mexican food for everyday or special occasions. Good bar. Central location and good ambiance for a relaxing evening.
Went in the evening with friends looking for "upscale" Mexican dining. The weather was nice and we would have sat outside but for the noise level from the street, but they had their roll-up doors open and the air conditioning on so it was chilly inside. Menu choices are a bit limited for a Mexican restaurant. Guacamole & chips were OK, but the octopus & calamari appetizer, which was recommended, was very strange, odd seasoning, served with spicy chips that tasted like Doritos, not the same as those used with the guacamole. The seafood in the dish was like mush, like it had been cooked and refrozen many times. The entrees were meh, none of our party of four were impressed. We ordered what we thought was a bottle of wine for $50, but it was actually a 1-liter carafe of "barrel wine" as they called. I asked to see a bottle or label, no can do. Waitress was nice enough but we won't be going back.
Service is alway blah. Waiters have no personality
Fabulous! Every dish was perfect and really tasted fresh! Highly recommend, will be back. Only downside is that it's loud inside, but with the food quality, you can overlook that.
Very well thought out menu. Great blend of tastes. Great selections of fresh choices along with smaller portions. Liquor menu was well stocked, even though they didn’t have what we asked for, they had something comparable.
I loved the decor and vibe, but was completely underwhelmed by the food.
Great service and as always, yummy food! We sat right w/the open garage door, inside but the street dining right outside. That area was a bit loud to hear everyone at the table however always a nice dining experience.
Sopas and ceasar salad were great!!!
The duck carnitas tacos were excellent (I much preferred them to the pork carnitas entree I tried last time). I worried that the chicken tamal would be too much food with it, but it was just right. The accompanying mole sauce was a wonderful bonus, which I drizzled over everything! Marina was a delightful server, very friendly and helpful! I've eaten here a few times now, and would say that for the best experience, ignore your usual menu choices and try something unusual here! Most likely, you'll be happily surprised. (Now, if I could just track down a recipe for the amazing lamb-stuffed chile relleno I ate here long ago...)
Delicious food, good quantities, nice selection. Too noisy for table larger than 4 to converse.
My wife and I went there for dinner and we had a very nice experience. Our waitress (I believe it was Corina) was attentive to our needs and placed our food order at the exact right time. The food was delicious and priced moderately.
Slow service, ok to moderately priced, uninspiring menu, too large portions, ok quality, use of too many sauces in dishes. Wouldn't go back. Pozole was good.
It was REALLY loud, and even with our reservation we were placed in what was probably the worst table there. Waited 15 minutes before we were even offered water ... I will not go back.
Great food priced reasonably and excellent service. Will definitely return again.
Ordered a couple of appetizers and drinks which came promptly, but our entrees arrived before one of the appetizers. Drinks were dry for along time before we finally flagged the server down for second round of drinks and to ensure we didn’t get charged for the missing appetizer. Bill was in order, food was good not great and service was not there. Nice enough, just made himself scarce.
Everyone enjoyed their meal. The service was good. Chips and various salsas and Guacamole were served that were very tasty. Two of us have the chicken tostada which was delicious. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the duck tacos. We also shared a very generous portion of shishito peppers. If we are in the area again we would definitely go back.
