Paying homage to Oakland history-about 100 years ago there was a lounge and club called the VARSITY LOUNGE located in our same location, who knew! In digging up old Oakland memorabilia, we found an old menu. To our surprise-they were well known for two things the Varsity Martini and Conga Lines!! While we aren’t ready for a conga, we are ready for the Varsity Martini and other drink specials. Come join us every day from 4pm-6pm in our cafe and 5pm-6pm at our upstairs bar.

Lovely food all fresh and well prepared. Service was excellent and enjoyed the cocktails. All around great experience. Could do with less French fry sides but otherwise wonderful.

The Buccatini carbonara was excellent. The radicchio Caesar salad was dressed perfectly.I didn’t like the way the Bronzino was seasoned and I thought it pretty expensive. The wine list was small, but they had some really interesting selections.

I strongly recommend this restaurant. Food was excellent. Service and personnel were so helpful and friendly. Great place. I will definitely go back and have recommended this restaurant already to a friend.

Hello Thomas, Thank you for your candid feedback. Though we strive to never get an order wrong or miss an item completely, we know we will not be able to meet this goal 100% of the time. Not acknowledging our mistake and finding a way to resolve the situation, now that is absolutely unacceptable. Accountability means everything to me, and rest assured, I am going to speak with your server from that evening and work with them on service standards. I'll also look into the slow food pacing issue you mentioned. I've been here for dinner several times, never for lunch. I have to say, the woman who was our waitress was a breath of fresh air, no pretensions as we have experienced in the past. We had such a lovely brunch, and enjoyed catching up with very few interruptions. I love this place, and look forward to the next time to sample more delicious cooking, a beautiful atmosphere, and friendly service. Oh, and they had wonderful mellow musicians! Really enjoyed them, too!

Loved the Caesar salad this night. And the pizza too. Great service and the seat upstairs at the back of the restaurant gave not only cool views of the whole second floor but we got a view of the Berkeley hills out the window to the right. Will be back
