The perfect venue to celebrate our son's graduation with a large group of friends. Kaitlyn was very accommodating, answering all of my questions, and even last minute changes to our reservation. The staff was efficient, attentive and friendly. The food was outstanding - we sampled each other's selections and everyone was wowed by the variety and quality of the dishes. We lingered over each course with no sense of rush or prodding. The wine list was excellent! Highly recommend Oliveto!

Server made an unequal wine pour using both hands and arms simultaneously for the two of us.
When told of the inequality, she acknowledged it but did offer to make it equal.
A small amount of wine would have satisfied me and I would have likely ordered a second
glass. Instead, I was frustrated.

Made reservations for a Monday night dinner weeks in advance, noting we were celebrating a birthday. We have lived in Oakland for ten years and have always wanted to visit! We will not be returning and will definitely not recommend - ultimately due to service.

Menu and food was seasonal and fresh, execution and service was pretty bad. We were sat away from the main dining area upstairs where everyone else was sitting and where there were open tables (?) and was seated near the bar. Our waitress was the bartender which should have been a clue that service would be off. She never gave us her name and we got to hear all the “fun” staff conversations that were casually happening right near our table as the waiters and runners would walk by every 20-30 seconds. Because she was also making drinks for the entire restaurant, her service was not attentive and personable. Our multiple courses arrived at an awkwardly slow pace (30 minutes between course, from plates cleared to new course) and each “hot” dish was lukewarm. All of this without any acknowledgment or explanation of the delays. I thought of sending them back but after how long they took to come to the table we just wanted to eat it and get out of there. Our Birthday/celebration was never recognized. Although the food was seasonal and fresh, the service was poor and therefore makes the experience overpriced and not worth it. While I’m all for when gratuity is included in the bill, this is an example of when we got the short stick, because the waitress did not deserve this amount (but I will say the table runners did a decent job). A restaurant such as this should have dedicated wait and bar staff. Very disappointed.

Really wonderful double date experience. Everything we tried was de-li-cious. I especially loved the Lumache pasta with trumpet mushroom ragu, and the chocolate cake was out of this world good. It is worth going there late just for dessert. Our server was kind and informative but didn’t hover and gave us space to keep our conversations going. Still can’t get over how good the food tasted. We will be returning for our next special event.

The location, view and service was very good Not exceptional but very good. The menu left something to be desired - no meat except as part of a salad or pasta. Also, Oliveto's should go back to traditional glasses for martinis and manhattans AND serve reasonable portions so that the glass is full.

All the food was wonderful, however, I had the Occhi of Sracciatelli which was an extraordinarily small portion! My friend had the Spaghetti Neri which, though not large, was what one would expect to be served. I ate extremely slowly so as not to be finished way ahead of my companion, but still ended up with an empty plate while she was only half way through. All the other dishes we had were perfectly portioned, so this was a real disappointment.

The food was wonderful and absolutely PERFECTLY prepared. The asparagus was perfectly prepared. The halibut was absolutely fantastic--a beautiful piece of fish and superbly prepared!! The pasta was divine. And the whole wheat bread was music in my mouth. AND the desserts came up to the same level. Our table of 4 shared 4 of the desserts. Every dessert plate was amazing. It is obvious that they have an excellent pastry chef who takes pride in the food.

Food was very good. However, $16 for a starter salad is a little ridiculous. I'm guessing it's because the rent at the location is also crazy high!

I'm not sure what is happening at Oliveto, but it seems that they have been increasingly creating an environment of micro managing portions and economics. My husband recently ordered the halibut, and what showed up was two very small, very thin slices of fish that resembled tiny little sole filets. This is not what I expect from a fine dining experience such that Oliveto should be. I think I will have to stick with Chez Panisse Cafe, where the food is amazing and the portions are normal if not generous.

Dining at Oliveto's never disappoints! Our meal was incredibly delicious, as well as creative. Our server Kay was outstanding in her knowledge of food preparation and simply a joy to be around. After dining at this restaurant for many occassions, over many years, it still is an all time favorite!

Fabulous food and atmosphere. Only weak link is at the front. Twice now rude and not professional in getting people checked in and seated. I think it may be partly inexperience- but a great restaurant should notice this and make a change.

The food was absolutely extraordinary, and the service was the best I've had in a long, long time. It was a perfect way to celebrate our 8th anniversary!

Good part: food, ambiance, wait staff, noise level

Bad part: host of restaurant who had us wait in the bar area for ten minutes when the restaurant was 1/3 full......I know he is likely instructed to do so to encourage customer’s to order drinks...but come on...a 1/3 full restaurant

I was so underwhelmed by my experience at Oliveto. It was mostly the food that was the problem. 3 people in my party ordered the Rutabaga and it came out undercooked and hard. They couldn’t even cut it well with the steak knife they had to borrow. I ordered the Spaghetti Ragu which was also lackluster. I can’t imagine how they got such a basic dish so wrong. It lacked salt, seasoning and the flavor of the meat was appetizing. Due to our schedule, we didn’t want to return the dishes as it would have taken too long for new ones to come out. I will never return to Oliveto, it was such a disappointment.
