Oliveto is one of my favorite East Bay restaurants, but my first dinner out in a year was marred by having a waiter who wore his mask UNDER his nose instead of over it. Despite my request to please pull up his mask, he continued to wear it unsafely all evening. Food was great, as always----dining on the sidewalk was fine despite some traffic noise. But I was disappointed to see our waiter and one other wearing their masks incorrectly
Located just catty-corner to the Rockridge BART station, Oliveto's is convenient, delicious and in a vibrant community.
The food was good, service was horrible.
Overall, it was a deliciously prepared meal served outdoors. The service was careful, courteous and solicitous. A lovely evening that met all of our high expectations.
The food is unique and delicious. The staff are wonderful and very attentive. GO! ENJOY!
Not what it used to be, unfortunately. I ordered pasta with clams and asparagus. There were exactly 5 baby clams and perhaps one shaved stalk of asparagus in the pasta. Sad.
Delicious dinner, lovely wine, friendly attentive service and felt completely safe! Thank you, Oliveto - we have missed you!
It was dark and somber - food was amazing. Host was snotty - drinks were great. Server was conversational and informative.
Although the menu was limited due to COVID-19 restrictions, food was fresh and delicious. Coffee smoked scallops were very good indeed, but the beets tortellini was not very special. Among the deserts, chocolate cake was the best.
I will dream about the panna cotta for years to come. The kumquat pizza was really neat!
Since Oliveto has been one of my very favorite restaurants in the Bay Area for years, it was very sad to return as visitors from Michigan, just as the pandemic has relaxed enough to allow for indoor dining, to have a very disappointing meal last week. The soups were cold (not meant to be though), the crab gnocchi pasty and tasteless, and the leg of lamb over cooked and tough. The service was uncoordinated and sloppy. I'm sympathetic--I could tell the place was under-staffed and the staff in attendance somewhat harried--and I want to think that a rebound is in the offing. But this one experience (our first in a restaurant at all for over a year) was such a disappointment. I know you can do better!
Awesome menu and wine selection, upstairs dining was awesome they comply with COVID safety regulations and it’s still enjoyable!
Everything was wonderful
Outstanding food, beautiful to look at and amazing to eat. The ingredients were so beautifully prepared and chosen - steak tartare with tiny little dice, scallops with some kind of coffee infused smoke preparataion -- incredible! -- venison so tender, etc. And served in a relaxed (but not sloppy in any way) and friendly atmosphere.
My criticisms will be worked out. We were outside so no ambience. Noise level was due to passing cars, not other patrons. Staff seemed to be having some problems so things were a little confusing when we first arrived. Food was/is first rate.
The Spot was very cute and relaxed, the servers moved a heat lamp for us and the wine was great. Main course we’re fantastic, apps were a touch uninspired. All around great spot will be back.
The food was actually quite delicious. Our server, however, was distracted and unavailable for most of the evening. The bussers were nice . They actually were much more friendly and attentive than the server.
So happy to be able to return to beautiful Oliveto!
It is impossible to justly judge the noise level when I ate at a temporary outdoor table set up for the pandemic. However, the chairs were reasonably comfortable and the tables not rickety, which is more than can be said for some places' usual seating.
The food was absolutely lovely, a beautifully cooked steelhead filet set off nicely with roast fingerling potatoes and a wonderfully subtle arugula and fennel salad, all accompanied by a very decent pinot grigio. Portions weren't huge (I did finish my meal, it had been 6 hours since brunch), but were not the stingy portions often served at fine establishments.
The vanilla panna cotta was lovely, but I wasn't impressed with the balsamic caramel sauce. It wasn't bad, but the combination of flavors didn't really do anything for each other, just sat next to each other on my palate.
Service was excellent. I am often made to feel as if I'm not quite welcome, taking up a table for two when dining alone, but I was very well taken care of.
While everything was excellent and I expect Bay Area prices to be high, I've definitely had better meals for less. The value wasn't great, but I didn't feel ripped off, and my server earned his 25% tip even at high prices.
Oliveto's need to close until they can do much better. It was nothing close to what is was. The food was cold, the menu was marginal, and the galvanized roof with little wind break was terrible. The strawberry dessert had a biscuit that was hard as a rock. I know about Covid, but I have been other places that do a good job. Do not go there until things are much better.
Food and service were excellent and indoor dining was appropriately spaced for covid. The decor was understandably quite sparse as they had just reopened. No flowers, no decorations.
We both ordered the duck breast and it was way overcooked and tough. I don’t know if this is a bad night or not but this was terrible. We ate here last week and enjoyed our meal. At this price $34 per duck order we expected much better. We will not be returning.
Food was uninspired and pizza was downright gross. Especially for the price, would have expected better.
Great ambiance and food! Brussels sprouts and Caesar salad were excellent.
One of our favorites
Yesterday I chose Oliveto for my first restaurant dinner experience since March 20, 2020. I sat outside, saw and talked to Maggie and Bob (owners) while enjoying a delicious Manhattan up. I ordered the wonderful Caesar salad and always fantastic Spaghetti Neri. I’m not a big dessert person but was compelled to have a sampling from each section of the menu so I ordered the magnificent Strawberry Shortcake.
While talking to Bob about a pasta dish I recent cooked at home he chastised me for not using Community Grains products, which unbeknown to me are sold at the restaurant. After reviewing the Community Grains Store product listing I bought and took home whole wheat pasta (assorted shapes), whole wheat flour (2 lbs), Floriani red flint polenta and a loaf of cracked whole wheat bread. Yes, I’m fully vaccinated, adhering to CDC protocols and supporting my favorite restaurants. Please join me. Joe Laymon
Spaghetti Neri is my fav. They go out their way to use innovative heat lamps during Covid 19 outdoors requirements.
The lamb was cold and the desert was hard and cold. Very sketchy service.
Service was less than perfect-
Waiter did not hear orders on multiple occasions -
Ordered a bottle of wine and he delivered a glass of wine
Order a glass of wine at end of dinner - forgot to deliver
A great evening with spot on food and great service!
Oliveto continues to impress! wonderful to be 'back' in the inside, well distanced, with excellent wait staff and delicious food.
enjoyed the service and the outdoor dining, will return again
Delicious food. Always wish the portions were bigger!
Another lovely anniversary dinner at Olivetto’s!
The outdoor dining experience was lovely, and the food and the service was at the usual high standards.
We had a good time but nothing special with regard to the food or drinks. Service was good.
Great service, nice outdoor space with heat lamps.
It was great to go out and eat indoors (a first in many months). The food was delicious - we had the special dinner for that evening, a quail saltimboca. The waiter could not have been nicer!
The food is always good, the service is excellent and the Meyers sound system just makes the experience delightful
Beautiful setting, very outdoor "indoor" experience. Best Caesar salad! Great cocktail, good wine list, nice menu. Service was excellent! All of that and white tablecloths!
