OLiV Tapas Bar & Restaurant at Strewn Winery Ratings and Reviews
We dined at Oliv for my husband's birthday. There was a jazz trio playing that afternoon which caused diners to have to speak up to be heard, creating a rather loud atmosphere. We have dined here before when there was no music and the sound level was more enjoyable on those occasions. The brunch menu included several of their regular menu and tapas items as well as egg dishes such as omelets, eggs Benny and quiche. Our meal and wine selections were very enjoyable as we have come to expect from this establishment.
The service was not the greatest. We were told bread would come to the table before we ordered. We placed the order and then waited and waited for something. We asked someone if we are to have bread and we were told because we ordered appetizers then no. We said ok we didn't know since it was offered to us. They then brought the bread anyways and only be told again that we ordered appetizer we shouldn't be getting BREAD!
Food was blah. When it states Chorizo on the dish they put Kiabasa sausage instead.
Just a disappointing experience.
Waiter never checked on us if the food was ok. Didn't say bye either.
The restaurant was not even busy either. No excuse.
Dined here over the summer and loved it. This visit was lackluster from the food to celebrating a birthday. The food was lukewarm, bland and plating lacked finesse. Despite the waiter asking prior to seating (because I listed birthday celebration on the reservation) if a birthday celebration was in order, nothing special was done during or prior to service. Dining room was empty, one 2 other tables were taken. Would not go here again.
Although it was early in the evening, there were very few tables filled. Our waiter was very attentive, the vegetables were cooked to perfection, however, my husband and I ordered the ribeye steak and it was very fatty and not flavorful at all. We realize ribeye has some fat but this wasn’t edible. We both left three quarters of it. We were very disappointed.
Very intimate dining setting. Would love to see the restaurant during the spring/fall & the view. Restaurant was a little cold but it was freezing outside. Waitress & her bus boy? were phenomenal. Very knowledgeable and sweet. Knew the right amount of time to spend at the table. The soup & oyster tapas were delicious! S'more dessert was also a highlight of the meal.
Had a great time-celebrated friends bday-food portions very good for very moderate prices! Nice ambiance-little off the main area off Niagara on the Lake—-off country road in rural area where a number of smaller wineries are located—if you have time go for Olive oil Tasting before dinner-
Came here with my wife and a friend. Service at both wine sampling and restaurant was some of the best we had ever had. The food was excellent. If you are a foodie, this should be on your list. The tapas were unbelieveable. The wine is delicious. I have no complaints. I will be returning when I am back in town. This place is a hidden gem.
We have tried quite a few dinners/lunches at different wineries in the niagara area and I truly would put this one at the top of my list. Great atmosphere, wonderful service and delicious meals. All round great experience that I would be recommending to friends and family.
We were impressed that the waiter acknowledged our Birthdays (3 out of the 4) and surprised us with a little dessert with a candle in it. Very thoughtful. The waiter had a good sense of humor also. We enjoyed the whole experience and we will be dining there soon with other friends. Thank you!
My wife and I certainly enjoyed our evening together at OLiV! The service was outstanding and the food excellent. The quiet atmosphere was great! We were able to chat together and enjoy each other's company without noise or distraction as we celebrated our 53rd anniversary. The setting was just perfect! We would highly recommend this winery and restaurant to any and all!
2 couples had lunch here after visiting other wineries in the Niagara area. We had excellent sweet potato soup, our tapas choices consisted of lamb chops, grilled shrimp and fig/proscuitto, and a lovely thin crust pizza with mushrooms & bison. Desserts were just right size of chocolate brownie, raspberry cheesecake and tiramisu. All in all an excellent meal.
We will definitely return.
Second time to Oliv at Strewn Winery this year and once again not disappointed.
The combination of local food and herbs/flavours are very creative and delicious.
We had the tapas, two each and they were quite filling. The Lobster crepe was amazing.
But we did leave room for dessert of course. The dessert menu is a bit limiting if you are
lactose intolerant, 3 or the 4 offered contained cream although the brownie was good.
My husband and I plus another couple went for dinner. After trying to get reservations at some other vineyards and not succeeding, we were able to get a reservation at OLiV. After reviewing the VERY expensive menus at the other vineyards and then seeing the pricing at OLiV, I have to admit, I wondered what the catch was. We were all very pleasantly surprised at the eclectic menu and the wonderful food! Our server was fantastic. I wish I had gotten her name. She was great. She brought us a 2nd basket of their complimentary, delicious bread and dipping oils which are out of this world. We were too stuffed for dessert but she let us sample the pastry chef's special handmade chocolates. We joked about getting another sample and she brought it to us!!! We would recommend this restaurant to anyone and will be going again soon!
A large party made our experience less than awesome. There is no dedicated space and they were set up smack in the middle of the dining room and were loud and boisterous.
Food was lovely and service was great- atmosphere could be a little more dim and romantic in the evening.
Cheese board looked cool but had a lot more fruit than cheese, desserts were small.
Having been in Niagara on the Lake for several days enjoying a number of fine restaurants I was looking for something "different" for my last night in town. The tapas menu immediately caught my attention and we skipped the salads and shared ginger shrimp and lobster crepe from the tapas menu for our starters. Both were very flavourful and the right size for sharing with two. Our dinner selections were equally flavourful and creative. Top that off with a fine Cabernet and it was a memorable evening that I hope to recreate in the near future.
Thanksgiving Meal was terrible. Great presentation, but uneatable food.
Tough turkey and needed a steak knife to cut the vegetables. Given seat facing brick wall, even though there were 5 other empty locations by the window. Asked to be seated by window and were told "no".
We had reservations prior to arriving, so were not just walk-ins. This is my third time at this restaurant and each time has been a disappointment. Much better restaurants in the Niagara Region. Wine prices are outrageous! They can do better!
Went on Friday for our anniversary, server Steve was very good. Had a cheeseboard as well as a couple sharing plates prior to our entrees and all were excellent. I had the lamb which was beautifully presented but a little disappointing with lack of flavor as others have suggested in previous reviews. Lamb was cooked perfectly though, my wife had the filet and loved it. Overall food was very good and service was excellent and will go back for sure.
