   Wanted to sit in a "Cell" but couldn't they said not available even though we walked past open tables? When we left we walked past open tables? Squeezed us in a very tight corner booth by the kitchen door. But the food was good as well as the service. We will try again sometime.

   I have been to the tavern side in the past and it was pretty good. This was our first visit to the steakhouse side of Olde Jaol and it certainly did not disappoint. This is what I would call fine dining. It is a little bit higher priced than the chain steak houses, but the quality is exponentially higher! We had shrimp cocktail and crab cakes appetizers and they were both exceptional, especially for this area. The 16 oz. Ribeye was fantastic and our server, Roger, suggested a very nice Sonoma Cabernet that paired beautifully with our steaks. Leave room for dessert. The key lime pie was the best we have found in the north. Overall this was a very nice dining experience. We will definitely be returning.

   Wonderful ambiance, great for that special date night. Appetizer and steak dinner were very good, both were overdone in spots. Dessert and service were amazing.

   First, I should say I would not "recommend to a friend" hardly any restaurant, unless asked, as it is not our habit to go around recommending things to people unsolicited. Is this restaurant OK - yes. Is it great - no, but it could be. We have been there maybe three times in the past couple of years. The food is good; the menu has more choices than most, and they were flexible with substituting to accommodate our Keto diet. However, my wife remembered that the last time we were here, the service was not great. On this Valentine's Day, it still wasn't. We waited close to half an hour to get our entrée. As the last time, for some reason, the people at the other tiny tables in our little alcove were brought bread without being asked, and they got there after us by quite a few minutes. They had all courses before we did. Same server. Long time between wine and asking to order after appetizer. Much longer time between ordering (salmon, ribeye medium rare) and getting it. Dessert selection good. This could be a great place - atmosphere is inherently unique, menu selections good, close to Uptown, but we found that the problem with service was not just a one-time thing the time before. Exact same issues. Polite; just not very attentive. They do take away your plates fairly quickly. This was not our first choice for that reason on this night, but our first choice was booked much sooner, apparently for a reason.

   I love the Olde Jaol food. The last time we visited the menu had some nice vegetarian options for my husband. He had butternut squash ravioli. You need to refresh the menu but keep in mind the vegetarian options (2) at the bottom of the menu are bland and uninteresting. Pasta dishes are always interesting. He had the small plate eggplant dish and a side of pierogies which were delicious but more options would be welcome. Vegetarians are becoming more common and adding a few more options to the menu would be welcome. We had no idea until we saw the menu that the ravioli dish was gone. Otherwise we live the restaurant.

   The building itself made for quite a unique experience. Such a cool place. The food was outstanding. Various spices used that really stepped it up. A very wide variety of selections. Prices were reasonable. The only small complaint that I had was the lighting was fairly dim. It made it a bit challenging to read the menu. The waitress did an excellent job, checking on us often. We would definitely return. One of the best Valentine dinners that we’ve had.

   The food was fabulous and the service was the best I've ever experienced. The music - 60s songs that were not the same ones you always hear - was perhaps one notch louder than I would have liked. The ambience was amazing. This building was built in the mid 1800s and looked and felt like it. As much as I loved the music, I feel that quieter music might have been more mood appropriate. Not sure what they were listening to in the 1860s, but classical might have been more fitting. My only caveat to anyone considering dining here is that there seems to be a mild moldy or musty scent. I don't think that meant the restaurant wasn't clean, just that it's old. There was a heavy scent in the air from candles or perhaps air freshener to mask it, but the perfumey scent was almost worse. I got used to it after a while, but I can imagine it causing a problem for someone with a breathing disorder. Still, I loved the place and would certainly go again if I'm ever near Wooster in the future.

    Our table was not ready when we arrived for reservation time but was quickly setup. However, there was a bulb out on the ceiling light so it was difficult for us to see our menu. Had to take a cell phone out to pass around to those that could not see. My prime rib had a huge piece of fat on the end but the meat was cooked to order and was nice sized. Service was great and very informative for selections. Beverages were refilled on a timely manner and settings were taken away in good time also. Birthday dessert was enjoyed by all...a big thank you for the surprise! All in all, a marvelous time had by all.
