Old Vinings Inn Ratings and Reviews
Most folks know the history of the Old Vinings Inn, from its days as a post office, as a general store and even as a filling-station. But we did not come for a history lesson, we went for its commitment to upscale Southern food.
Old Vinings Inn is a very quaint restaurant, and quiet enough for a nice date night. Plus if you have to wait, the waiting area (former living room) has a fireplace to keep you warm during these cold winter months.
As far as the food, we ordered the Charcuterie Plate, which was very good, especially their “lighter” pimento cheese and broad bean hummus. We also ordered the Trout and the Pork Chops. Despite the Trout being one of their staple items, I was underwhelmned. The Pork Chop, however, was fantastic, particularly with the shallot mustard sauce drizzled on top. Not being a huge Mac-and-Cheese guy, I subbed that in favor of brussel sprouts, which I was pleased by.
All in all, a fairly decent meal. Not the best, but certainly not the worst.
We were seated right away. Lauren, our server was very attentive and fun. The appetizers of calamari and fried green tomatoes were excellent. 2 ordered shrimp and grits, one salmon, one scallops, and 2 red snapper. All of us thought the food was great. I hope to go back and highly recommend this restaurant.
Great ambiance and an overall pleasurable dining experience. The service was outstanding. The only negative was that some of my shrimp, from the shrimp and grits, were under cooked and were raw. In the spirit of full disclosure, they had lost their chef shortly before we dined with them. My wife's meal and the rest of mine was very good.
Always enjoy this historic restaurant with its cozy rooms and romantic ambiance. The menu has Southern roots with a creative flair and executed as promised. The service is always consistent and friendly. We have to travel a bit but it never fails our expectations.
We went Christmas Eve thinking this would be the start of a new tradition. It will not be. We had an 8:00 reservation made through Open Table. We did not know we were the last folks to be seated. When we arrived we were only offered seating in the bar area or on the covered porch, despite most of the dining room being empty. And it appeared the manager is the one who offered us those two options. The hostess took us upstairs to the bar, which was blistering hot. We said no. She took us downstairs and as the manager was no longer at the front door, she seated us at a table. Service was slow as most of the staff were leaving v or waiting to leave. We get the fact people wanted to be home, but we made a reservation that the restaurant said was an available time. First time and not sure we would try again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and our meal at Old Vinings Inn on Christmas Eve. The Shrimp & Grits were the best I've ever had. Trout was good but not great. Pork chop was excellent. Loved the ambiance of the historic building. We will definitely go back!!
My partner and I had the opportunity to have Thanksgiving Diner at the Old Vinings Inn, and it was great. Service and food were spot on. Last year we went to a place on the River for their buffet and were extremely disappointed, so this year we wanted to try another place. I will tell you we were not disappointed and they did not offer a huge buffet like others places just focused on the basics and nail it. If you want a huge menu this is not your place, but if you want a good solid menu with quality food, and great service then the Old Vinings Inn is your place.
I went to the Vinings Inn for Thanksgiving. Typically the INN is one of my favorite spots in Vinings. Thanksgiving Day was very busy, staffed seemed rushed. It was Buffet service only and they are not set up for that type of service. Buffet was poorly maintained from a quality and sanitation perspective. The buffet did not reflect the $55.00 price tag.
I have been at this restaurant three years ago for Thanksgiving with a friend. This year I brought my Son. Three years ago the dinner was delicious with a variety of food and entrée choices and great appetizers and desserts . Coming here in 2017 there has been a real CHANGE. The choices were much less and mediocre. Several of the side dishes, green beans and mashed potatoes were barely warm. The first serving of roast turkey I had was cold and the Station Carver was not very friendly and almost rude. The desert choices were disappointing. Our waitress was inattentive and we had to ask her twice for the dinner rolls and butter. I took a long time to get the check. This was a disappointment on a special occasion.
Even though we had reserved weeks in advance, we were left waiting for a table for over 35 minutes. Part of the problem was that they were taking walk ins without reservations. I can understand a restaurant wanting to maximize their table turnover but there was absolutely no priority given to our reservation. It ended up being chaos in there with staff running every which way. The food was good and so we might return at another time but we will make sure that it is not at a holiday seating.
Thanksgiving at the Old Vinings Inn has been a tradition for several years and I have always had a great experience. Not so much this year. Not sure if staff was new or hired just for the day, but service was not the best. Very little attention paid to beverage refill needs, replacing flatware and picking up used dishes. We were seated at a table where the sun was shining brightly through the window and it was very uncomfortable temperature-wise and vision-wise...I could hardly see my dining companion for the bright light in my eyes. The food was tasty but barely warm. The dessert selection left a lot to be desired. There was also a lot of yelling and disorganization in the servers area - a space you have to walk through to get to the serving line. I'm hoping this Thanksgiving was just an off day for the staff - everybody has one. Will probably have the holiday meal there again next year, but if things are not better, that will be it.
My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving brunch at the Old Vinings Inn. Great ambiance - very intimate atmosphere with private seating areas, attentive staff -- and all the items on the menu were outstanding! The turkey was moist and delicious and the brussel sprouts were to die for - I went back for seconds and I don't even like brussel sprouts. It was our first visit, and we will definitely be back!
