Old Town Social Ratings and Reviews
I planned a farewell dinner for a friend at Old Town Social. We had 9 people but we were accommodated nicely. The drinks and food were all good. Staff was friendly and was able to split the bill between all nine of us. Loved the vibe of this place. would recommend!
We arrived for a res that took place immediately after a private event. The ambiance was obnoxiously loud, which you'd expect on a Friday only that it never leveled out. That and the shocker of a very limited late night menu after 930pm made it hard to enjoy the meal my friends and I had planned to have. The service was impeccable, I'd just wish that we were warned ahead of time about the limited menu and blaring music.
The "Brisket Sandwich" was three burnt and tasteless strips of meat. No sauce. Dry toast. And half a pickle. All disassembled on the plate and I guess I was supposed to put it together? Why the hell would something be labeled a sandwich and then I have to become the sandwich maker? It was EXTREMELY (I can't stress this enough) EXTREMELY overpriced for how low of quality the it was. I will not be returning and will not be recommending it to anybody.
We brought a group of people in for dinner with a reservation for 8 only to find out they did not reserve a table for us. We waited for quite some time and got little help. We had to leave after waiting for 30 minutes. Very disappointing and we most likely will not return.
Arrived 15 minutes before our reservation slot - they did not have a table for us. Waited for over an hour, a walk-in party of 3 came in during that time and were seated immediately. Hostess did not seem to care, and at that point we left. Was rather disappointing. Will not be returning.
I've always been a fan of Old Town Social, but I moved from Wrigley to Old Town in September 2015 and have been a frequent visitor at OTS. It's right down the street and I absolutely love the ambiance, quality of the food, and menu options. Patrick is our favorite and he always makes sure we're taken care of! The service is great - this is a great place for a casual brunch, or for a date night :) I also LOVE the fireplace in the winter. I've gone here for NYE a few years ago, casual meals with family & friends, date night, and had my birthday here with friends (in 2013 and 2016 .. just realized that! lol). But if I'm going out - it's quick, convenient, great quality, & I can always count on having fun at OTS. Everyone I've taken here loves it too. Some of my menu favs include the sweet potato fries, veggie burger, kale & pear salad, and the brownie. Easy to say that I'm a big fan :)
The staff couldn't have been nicer. One person in our party was not satisfied with what she
ordered. The waitress was very quick to apologize and bring her a menu so that she could choose another entree. She also sent over the owner (I believe) who also was most attentive in rectifying the situation. Not only was the original dish removed from the bill, but they provided an additional discount as well. Their outdoor sidewalk seating area is charming. The restaurant itself, though, tends to be a bit noisy with really blaring music.
Showed up at 9pm for our reservation. About 3 staff members just looked at us as they walked by, while we waited to see the hostess who was talking with her friends at the entrance. Seated and took 20 minutes to get orders in, didn't get our food for an hour. There were about 1/8th of the tables dining. Food was cold, drinks were weak. This is a bar, not a restaurant.
Old Town Social's menu was surprisingly delicious. The execution of of every dish was right on the money. Basic fare, such as chicken wings were rendered in a fashion consistent with a very good sports bar. The English Burger, among other themed burgers, was excellent. The English Burger was well prepared with Stilton cheese, an egg bread bun and other fixings. The fish tacos were prepared with talapia, a subtle red sauce, cilantro, and some sort of peppers among the vegetable components of the taco. I had a goat cheese cheese cake for dessert. It had a fantastic crust and delicious blue berries in a sauce. The meal was thoroughly delicious.
