About
Our inspiration stems from the variety of cultures that make up our city our goal is to combine these traditional flavors into something uniquely Kentucky. Experience food and service that are precise, yet never pretentious.
I love this location and have enjoyed many dinners here. We made this reservation as normally through Open Table, showed up to celebrate my wife's 70th birthday with our party only to find out they are closed. I do not blame the owners but rather the Open Table group. This is not the first time we have had problems with them. How can you confirm a reservation, send reminders and then ask for a recommendation when they are closed? I have not idea if they are closed forever, but this was a very special event and we wanted to go to our favorite location. We did even with the Vires situation and you never told us!
Enjoy the historic ambiance of the restaurant. We were there for Sunday brunch which had some good and some only so-so offerings. The fried chicken was quite good. The salads were versatile and very flavorful. The chess pie crust was underdone but the filling was good. We will go back for regular menu to make better decision.
We ate in the bar. Everything was great. The ribs are outstanding.
Food was outstanding, the atmosphere great, service pretty good for a packed house. A real pleasure for sure.
The ambiance and service were first rate. The food was just OK.
We had dinner with another couple for Valentines Day. The menu was smaller but we all enjoyed our meals especially the blue cheese and pear salad.
Great menu made better by great service.
Had a great meal and wonderful experience. Definitely worth the short drive from Louisville!!! Don’t miss the short ribs. The mushroom fries and the mushroom ravioli are amazing!! Save room for dessert.
We had passed the Old Stone Inn on several occasions and kept saying we needed to go there. So I made reservations for Sunday Brunch. The food was fantastic, the service attentive and courteous and the ambiance superb. Worth the drive from Frankfort, KY.
Food was good but smaller portions then the last time we were there. Bourbon drinks were excellent but limited in “foo foo” drinks. Very few people the night we were there. Seamed strange. What was listed as beef spare ribs was actually roast. Overall was good but over priced based on portions.
Brunch was excellent! The waffles are a must try
Always great sevice and ambiance. We have been coming since Chef Danielson opened a couple years ago. Love when they have the salmon but otherwise the lamb ragu is my go to.
Delicious food in a cozy atmosphere!! Love
We had a wonderful time at Sunday Brunch. The hostess was fantastic and our server could not have been more helpful. The fried chicken was exceptional. My only issue was the lack of salt and pepper shakers. When I asked for them I was brought a small bowl of sea salt and a giant pepper grinder. Great quality but unwieldy and impractical.
Wonderful experience. New Years Eve dinner. We will definitely be back.
New Years Eve with limited menu
Excellent service, outstanding food (pork chops and shrimp and grits to die for). Very accommodating and the historical building lent the perfect ambiance to a great evening. Highly recommend
My husband & I stopped here during our travel back from Christmas with family. Joey was our server and was pleasant, & very efficient & attentive. Our food was served quickly and was delicious. The portabello fries were crisp and very good with the accompanying sauce. My husband ordered the mushroom ravioli which was exceptional and my shrimp & grits were moist, well cooked, and well flavored. I would definitely recommend anyone have dinner here. The hosts were friendly and also shared some of the history of the building.
We had an awesome experience. The staff was very attentive including the owner/chef David Danielson who stopped by the table to check in on our food. Our waiter and many of the other staff members had a very deep history in the Louisville cuisine world - many have experience at the other top-notch restaurants in Louisville. It was a pleasure to talk with them about their experience and this experience in fine dining makes the Old Stone Inn a fabulous venue to enjoy an awesome meal.
We also asked for a tour of the Inn and were given a very thorough tour - a very interesting venue. Ask about the bullet holes from Indian attacks - yes, the Inn is that old!!!
The food was awesome - I had the pork chop and it was one of the best I've ever had.
If you're looking for a spot where you can have an intimate meal, I would highly recommend the Old Stone Inn. Ask for a table in one of the smaller rooms where you won't feel cramped - only four tables in our room - it was quiet, so we could talk without yelling.
We will definitely be going back - maybe a burger in the bar - I've heard they're incredible
Wonderful Sunday brunch . Thank you for a lovely meal.
Absolutely great. All aspects of the evening from hostess greeting to server to owner and chef stopping at table.
Wonderful historic building dating back to the late 18th century. Very friendly and helpful staff made our evening most pleasant. The food? Oh my! The dinner menu isn’t overly large, but still “packed” with delectable choices from “Snacks” to full entrées. Nice variety of choices, with unexpected combinations that are delicious. My wife and I opted to share the center cut pork chop with barley risotto, cinnamon carrots, and an apple chutney, and added a side dish of sweet potato gnocchi and roasted brussel sprouts with a wonderful light cheese sauce. Wow! See added photos of the dishes. The thick bone-in chop was perfectly done and juicy with a tasty pan jus glaze, the barley risotto a perfect savory compliment, and the cinnamon carrots a surprising excellent counterpoint. Having grown up with a bad opinion of brussel sprouts, the sweet potato gnocchi with roasted sprouts made me a definite believer. It would be perfect with any holiday meal.
So, as you can obviously tell, we highly recommend the Old Stone Inn & Tavern. BTW, be sure to leave room for dessert!
Good taste but 3 in our party had significant stomach sickness later in the evening. Hate to rate this place low since we had a 5 star meal there last summer and decided to return there for a birthday dinner, but there’s nothing worse than paying for what was a good tasting dinner at one in the morning.
I’d ignore the issue if it was just me but it wasn’t since we shared appetizers and tasted salads and entrees around the table since we were family.
Great service and Great taste, and we hope it was just something off in the kitchen or a different preparation technique by another chef ..... but it is what it is I suppose.
everything was so amazing - we had our annual Christmas girl outing / there was the three of us and was treated as a Queen from the time we arrived to when we left. We will definitely be back
Absolutely awesome experience!!! Service, food and price was perfect. We went back last sunday for brunch and it was great as well.
We had a wonderful experience at the Old Stone Inn & Tavern. I'd driven by for years, but had never found the time to stop. I'm so glad we did. We visited for a birthday celebration and Chef Danny took such wonderful care of us. He personally stopped by each table to check on his guests as the evening progessed. He clearly cares about his restaurant and the food that the kitchen serves. The dishes were varied and delicious, and we were quite pleased with our choices, from the flavorful shrimp and grits to the wild rice crusted trout. There isn't a children's menu, but the chef offered to make anything from mac and cheese to a hamburger for our son, which worked out perfectly. We also enjoyed the cocktails from the bar, and the wine list was interesting and creative. We'll be back!
Awesome food and great service.
We have visited Old Stone Inn about 4 times. Three of those visits I’ve been unhappy with the quality of my food. The wine is way over priced.
Sunday buffet is legit!!!
Fabulous food with amazing service! Their wine menu is one of the best I’ve seen. I was in town for two nights and we ate dinner here each night. I was not disappointed and plan to return!
The menu was very limited.
It was our first time eating at this establishment. The food was fabulous and the chief coming out to the table was a very personal touch. Our waitress Christi was wonderful. Very personable and knowledgeable about the menu. Would definitely recommend this to others and will return again.
Great food and great staff. We had the devil eggs and they were excellent The pork chop was served hot and tender and the short ribs fell off the bone.
We’re admittedly Boston foodies. Even so, we found the Inn to be a great space, a tremendously creative menu, fantastic salad, tasty starters and good, but not great entrees. We were told that the former Executive Chef at Churchill Downs rented the Inn, put together the team, and created the menu. We started by selecting two very expensive bourbons to sample; they were fantastic. For starters, we had the deviled eggs and fried green tomatoes, which were excellent. We had the salad of the day, which is one of the best salads I’ve ever had. Our main courses were a bourbon pork chop and the shrimp and grits, which were good but up to the quality of all that came before. John, our server, was a huge help and very attentive, even though he was serving several tables at the same time. Dinner cost $160 before tip, but a lot of that was alcohol (~$70). I left a tip of $40, to acknowledge the quality of the meal and the quality of the service. Would I ever return? We came back the following night to dine in the tavern section of the Inn, which has a more informal menu. The bartender, whose name I didn’t get, is a real pro. And the hostess at the Inn was a true pleasure to talk with and learn about the history of the Inn. When you’re traveling to places where you don’t know the dining scene, finds like the Old Stone Inn are a real delight.
The appetizers stood out over the entrees. Very good service.
Had another very nice time and a very good meal. Service was excellent as it was on our first visit.
Took a friend this time and they were also very pleased. We all plan to return.
The chef came out to greet us and was so delightful!! We loved the atmosphere and the food was delicious.
Phenomenal! The food was delicious and our waiter and bartender, John, was amazing! Highly recommend.
Our meal was superb as well as our drinks. Chef David came out to visit us to check on our meals and gave us a little history about himself and the restaurant. It was a wonderful evening of food and drinks.
Had a wonderful meal, service was good and will not hesitate to go back in the near future,
