Old Stone Inn & Tavern
Had lunch at the Old Stone Inn on 6/23/19 and was pleasantly surprised at the menu offerings and everyone’s food was excellent. Really enjoyed returning to have lunch at the Old Stone Inn and highly recommend this restaurant if your traveling on vacation or just an area resident. The Sunday brunch menu appeared to be excellent and fairly priced!
Outstanding evening. 40 oz smoked ribeye was fabulous! Salomon dish was incredible. Chef Dave brought out two desserts that you will not experience anywhere else in KY! Service was spot on and the bartender nailed the Manhattan. Return trip on the books for July 2..
Food & service were excellent. Wish you
would have a special night every month
with all the old recipes that Old Stone Inn
was famous for.....eggplant casserole, corn
pudding, fried chicken with country ham...
if advertised, it would be a sellout!!
Quality of served food has diminished over the last several visits.
The food was delicious. We were there on Sunday for brunch. The only thing that could have made it better was a potato dish. I’m so happy Old Dtone In is back. I knew the Inn keepers back in the 70’s so I have a lot of fond memories. Give it a try. You will really enjoy it!
I returned to this charming restaurant to check out some changes to their menu, specifically the pork chop. It was fresh and juicy and the accompaniments were interesting and tasty. I did not request a substitute for the barley risotto since I avoid wheat, but hopefully that option is available. It was busy, a popular destination.
The Old Stone Inn serves interesting and excellent food. I’ve eaten lunch and dinner there and both were excellent.
Service and surroundings were great .The food was good but average, I would come back for dinner and for more of a selection.
When we arrived, we found a completely different menu than the one posted on the internet. As a frequent patron long ago before the many changes in ownership , I was excited to see Southern Fried Chicken on the menu as it brought back many fine memories of years long ago. When we arrived--guess what ? No Fried chicken and a completely different menu than what we expected.
Having said that, the food we ordered was very good and the service was excellent. The biggest disappointment for all were the salads which were heavy on greens, but skimpy on all the other fine ingredients that were supposed to go in it. The large bone in rib eye was excellent as were the short ribs. The warm and buttery rolls were also excellent.
Welcoming and made you feel appreciated and like family. Food was excellent and the service was over the top A true Kentucky gem.
Food was excellent!
I had the same entree (pork chop) that I enjoyed in April. This time is was disappointing, almost seemed to be a reheated left-over, sitting in a salty pool of sauce. Previously the presentation was beautiful and everything was fresh tasting and delicious.
I want to love this restaurant as it is unique, but this experience along with a disappointing lunch is dampening my enthusiasm.
Amazing food, charming atmosphere, great service! Can’t wait to go back!
We always enjoy our dining experience at the old stone inn. The owner s have changed & we were apprehensive about the new owner s on the first visit. Quite frankly we enjoyed the original old stone inn. How could it get any better? We are happy to say that we were wrong. You may pay a little more than the original but quite frankly you will not be disappointed. We are so grateful that we tell all our friends you have to go there. It's all good & you will be glad you visited the old stone inn. Thanks chef & staff for improving a great restaurant. So glad you are the best restaurant in Shelby county!!! Please share this with anyone & everyone.
Warmly greeted upon entering this charming restaurant. Our server went over several items on the menu with us & we decided on lamb ragout & beef short ribs as our entrees. My lamb was flavorful & fork tender as was my husband’s beef. We will be back to try other dishes soon. Thoroughly enjoyed our evening.
Wonderful in all ways, great food, service, friendly staff, great historic venue.
Wonderful experience, great food, and friendly staff!
Dave and team continue to deliver on a quality evening...great food, drink and ambiance are always a winning combination! Keep it up
I would recommend but with some hesitation. We were a party of 4 and the service was very slow. We waited probably 30 minutes for our food. To get my water refilled I had to catch the eye of the waiter while holding up an empty glass. We also waited roughly the same amount of time to get our checks. The checks were very confusing as the bottle of wine was split 4 ways
as well as the meal. One lady ordered a side, a second lady ordered a salad and mushroom fries. THe total certainly was NOT the $26 yet that was her portion of the split check. Since it had taken so long to get the food & the check she just paid it. The waitress did try to straighten things out but all she did was give each of us a separate check-no amount changed. I had to tally mine to know exactly how much I owed. When we were ready to pay againI had to catch the eye of the waiter while holding up my card. I was very disappointed.
Went for Mother’s Day Brunch. Rather expected a Claudia Saunders style gloppy style buffet spread or a menu typically Louisville. But we were so surprised!
The sweet civilized ambiance amidst the old stone walls and distressed old pine creaking floors was great. But the food was such a total surprise! It’s conscious cooking using locally sourced foods where can. All was prepared with a concern for quality, health, real good stuff all well prepared. Chef David does a great job. Going back and back.
Very lovely brunch. Wonderful choices. Asparagus and watermelon burrata salad both delicious
The Old Stone Inn is back! A family favorite for decades - gone for a while - but our meal was excellent! Highly recommend! Chef is highly acclaimed and it shows in the quality of the dishes and the presentation! Take a short drive to the country and you will not regret it!
Quaint place with some interesting history. Low value .....small portions at a high price point, esp. for the area. Fish was undercooked and wet, not very tasty for catfish.
If you haven't been here yet, this restaurant should be on your must-visit list. It's located in an adorable old stone inn (hence the name), one where the walls and floors are a bit askew because of the age, which just adds to the charm. We went during Derby week, after the Oaks. Everyone was so friendly, the cocktails were delicious, the food was spectacular, and the service was very attentive. Even the chef came out to visit all of the tables, and to check on our meals and experience; it's very clear he's passionate about what he does and cares that it's done right. We wished we had more time during our trip to go back a second time. We'll definitely be joining them again next year when we're back in town.
We went to the Old Stone Inn for our 10th wedding anniversary. The decor was simple but nice. The waitress was friendly and very attentive.
We both had the Beef Short Rib. The meat was very tender and flavorful. The mashed potatoes were very good as was the brown gravy. The carrots were cooked perfectly and tasted great. We both had a delicious white chocolate cheesecake with carrot cake base.
Our glasses were always kept full. Very nice experience and we definitely will be back for another special occasion.
My family enjoyed the experience. Seemed to be a long gap between the salad and main course but we handled that with conversation just fine. The food was amazing and will return again. Thanks David for the experience. Good Luck!
room -bar level noise - need to tone down- when leaving compared experience with other guests -
noise level - not conducive for a second drink
server was overwhelmed - you stated short on staff
We came via a recommendation -
Change to Hawaiian rolls - appreciate real butter - Thanks
Cheese cake from cheese cake factory-
Yes, I would give you a second try and recommend with a caveat to request dining to the right
Personal attention was excellent and the food was very good and beautifully presented. I would suggest considering tablecloths to add to the fine dining experience and help reduce sound.
My husband and I went to the Old Stone Inn for a date night. We had a hard time choosing because everything on the menu sounded wonderful. I'm sure we'd have been pleased with anything but we ended up going with deviled eggs, salads, mushroom ravioli, catfish special, cheesecake and pecan tart. The chef puts a perfect gourmet spin on classic KY dishes. The service was great and the Inn is just beautiful. So glad to have this gem in Simpsonville! We'll definitely be back.
Our party of 4 dined on a Wednesday evening. We had the mushroom appetizer which was very good. Our entrees were: rack of pork (a single frenched pork chop), local trout, shrimp and grits, beef short ribs. No complaints and lots of YUMs from everyone. Portions were ample. Service was prompt and friendly. Our server knew the menu well. We had Appalachian Apple Stack Cake and Pecan Pie for dessert. Both were very good, but the cake was our favorite. My mother-in-law was celebrating her birthday and our server put a birthday candle on her dessert plate and comped her dessert. Best meal out overall (site, food, service) that any of us had in a long time.
Great out of the way place in Simpsonville that has some of the former Corbett's folks working there.
We had the brussels sprout and fritters as small plates which were very good, and followed that with two of the best salads my wife and I have ever had. Just delicious, and so was the Bloody Mary!
This is in an old home with a lot of character, which just adds to the gentile atmosphere.
Definitely worth the 30 minute drive.
Easter Sunday, everything was excellent. We had a party of twelve am we were very well taken care of.
Love the history, food and service. It's clear the folks at Old Stone Inn take pride in what they do and the atmosphere they provide their patrons. Not only did the servers and maitre'd know so much about their dishes and top picks, the owner/chef walked around and personally checked on everyone.
Our delicious meal was also followed by a behind the scenes building tour the maitre'd offered. The place was awesome.
LOVE how personalized our experience was. We will definitely return!!!
We enjoyed the meal, nice atmosphere. I plan to return again
Went to Old Stone Inn April 19, 2019. Ambience was wonderful. Service from Melissa was wonderful. My wife and I each had different salads and they were both very good. She had shrimp and grits and enjoyed it very much. I had catfish and thought it was excellent. I was only disappointed in the okra which was served whole and was not cooked through. I ordered stack cake for dessert and it was exceptional. One final comment, I had iced tea with my meal and coffee with dessert. So many restaurants now don't take care with tea and coffee. But here both drinks were very good. If a kitchen takes care to deal with tea and coffee it tells you something about the chef and his staff.
Nice to see the Old Stone Inn revamped and reopened once again. The ride out to Simpsonville is always a plus when going to this restaurant. A must try are the the pork rinds with pimento cheese.
The food and decor is very upscale
Wonderful place to dine!
Wonderful food, service and great atmosphere. Definitely a place I will be visiting often.
