Old Piney Dell Restaurant & Bar
Compliments to the chef. Some of the best food we’ve eaten anywhere.
The halibut is delicious. The soup is delicious. Steaks are perfect.
Thanksgiving Buffet was so good. The gravy and stuffing were the best I’ve ever had.
Very nice staff.
Beautiful and historic.
We had a very good Thanksgiving meal. There was 8 of us and we all felt the food was delicious , fresh and hot. An overall great experience.
Just delicious! Every part of the meal.
Great food and service in a unique location and in an historic building.
Cozy....comfortable and good food!
Highly recommend this restaurant. The chef does an excellent job with presentation. Staff is very personable, friendly and accommodating . The restaurant has a lot of ambiance, and a beautiful setting for dinner as you watch Rock Creek flow by. It is a very quaint little hide away restaurant which we have gone to for over 40 years.
Excellent meal, great service and friendly folks . . . we enjoyed our first time visit and dining experience. We will return. Dean & Valerie
Had a wonderful meal in a beautiful rustic setting. Had never seen partridge on a menu and it was delicious, as were each of our party’s choices. Lovely evening overall.
Beautiful spot by Rock Creek and great food with an interesting menu. The crab and artichoke soup is a must.
We had an amazing dinner! We had the bison pastie appetizer which was delicious , the tenderloin was excellent and the walleye was superb. The huckleberry crème brûlée for dessert and it was all perfect. It was my husband‘s birthday and they made a special dessert. We couldn’t have enjoyed ourselves more with the beautiful view of rock creek -it was truly an incredible evening. Make sure you order a lemon drop too!
Loved our dining experience. Met the Chef and purchased her cookbook. Will definitely return!
We were delighted with the Piney. Went there based on recommendations both from people back home in Minnesota, and locals on the hill. We were not disappointed. I've already recommended it to 3 people since.
Great old school ambiance and view into the lit back yard woods. Very classy place with a "wear your jeans and ski sweater" warm welcoming feel, with a hint of "there are probably a couple billionaires in here" sense of class. I had the Pepi's Wiener Schnitzel. Wow, I've been all over Germany, so I know what good Wiener Schnitzel and Rot Kohl (red cabbage) tastes like. You could see them pounding the Schnitzel with a hammer in the kitchen. They nailed it. But don't assume that it's some Germanic-dominated cuisine place... it isn't. They have that one Germanic dish on the menu. Turns out, the reason it's totally authentic is because the owner is Pepi Gramshammer, famous skier from Austria. But they also knew how to do the steaks right as well. Also had an artichoke and crab soup, which was great.
Great experience that makes you feel like your day was complete, and you're certain you had one great meal on your trip.
It was an excellent evening with delicious food and great service. It was my husband’s birthday and without even asking they surprised us with a fun birthday dessert.
What a fantastic dinner my husband and I had! We had the restaurant all to ourselves and the food was superb. Would definitely recommend to anyone and we will definitely be returning.
Good food. Great, friendly staff. Excellent ambiance. Will definitely go back!
Food was just ok. Overpriced for what it was and service hurried even though only four tables in use and two service staff including hostess who also served. Disapppointing
We had a great experience for our first visit to Piney Dell. We arrived a little early for our reservation thinking we would enjoy a cocktail at the bar before dinner. They had live music that night so the bar area was completely packed, but they sat us right away. If we would have known we would have gotten there even earlier to enjoy the music. We had a great night, our server was fantastic and the food was wonderful.
Food was great, waitress not very friendly and didn't seem 2 appreciate questions about the food, she basically told us that what was on the menu was what it was when I asked if the beef was local grass-fed. They did not have our OpenTable reservation on the books when we arrived.
Food was good
Great place for romantic getaway. Bartender was great and very personable.
Definitely will come back!
They didn't have our reservation. They claimed to not use Open Table anymore. Luckily, they were not busy and still had a table to make available for us. Food was quite tasty, but the service was mediocre at best. When paying the prices, I expect service to be a part of the package. Because of service, I wouldn't make the drive again. :-(
