Old Maryland Grill
Friendly prompt service. Waste out very professional. And accommodating. Food was really good
We were so disappointed with the menu! It seems like they changed the menu and raised the prices just for Parent's Weekend! $24.00 for Eggs Benedict or $14.00 for french toast were the only choices for breakfast at 11:00 am. We will not go back next year.
Overall it was fine and service was good. The only thing that was irritating was were asked to leave because another party was coming in and there were plenty of tables available. Everyone in our party noticed this. With parent weekend going on we were enjoying time with our children but felt we were put out on the street.
I'm disappointed that the original menu has been abandoned. How do you market a premium hotel with a mediocre restaurant? A thin strip steak is tasty but not juicy. The Maryland themed cocktail menu was great when they had it. Fried chicken dinner sorely missed.
Hidden gem in a new hotel! Excellent food and Excellent service!
A good place to dine before a football game. We had very good service and the food was very good.
Crab cakes were delicious, full of lump crab meat..
It was a pleasant experience. The food was tasty and the service was excellent.
The food is not good. Poor quality and poor preparation. The ambiance is non existent - feels like you're in an airport restaurant.
Salads were so big, we should have split one. Dinner was delicious and dessert was yummy.
I had a crab grilled cheese, an intriguing idea with plenty of crab. Bread was a little too thick and it was plated with French fries. Would have been better with coles slaw or potato salad a a nice slice or two of tomato. I’ll order it open face next time with a salad.
The food was ok. I think the crab cake may have been meant to taste a lot of the filling. My daughter's food had a hair in it which we were totally reimbursed for that night on the bill.
Very overpriced. $20 for a glass of Chardonnay? Unheard of in College Park. This must be a tourist trap for parents of Freshman at the UMD. My daughter and I went to eat there before a rugby game; thank goodness my son is a senior there - or I might fall into the trap of eating at the "Grill" again! The server, Lauren, saved the day with her cheerful smile!
Good option for a nice dinner with the family. We especially enjoyed the crabcakes
Our service was outstanding as was our food!!! I will definitely dine there again!
Food is above average for a hotel restaurant. Really liked the oyster selection! Always a solid option when visiting my daughter at UMD.
Very good food; great location.
Enjoyed everything from the buffalo wings, fried oysters, strawberry bread pudding, all... EXCEPT the shrimp scampi. Yuck!
Excellent place for a business lunch. Food was wonderful, service was fantastic. Will go again.
This was our first-time visit, and we were happy with the food, the service, and the appearance of the restaurant. We had calamari for an appetizer. It was delicious and could have been the whole meal. Our crab soup and crab cake were excellent. The flan is recommended for dessert. I had a delicious, fresh cobb salad. The only downside? The otherwise excellent coffee was tepid, not hot.
Love the Local Feel
The food was amazing, The atmosphere was great, the location was perfect (for us)
I have been here several times and it is always an excellent experience each time I return. Everything, from the atmosphere, to the service, to the food is always "topnotch". I am always glad when I come here.
I am conflicted - there are not too many fine dining places near UMD. My first disappointment was asking in advance about dessert, remembering prior reviews of the fine Smith Island cake. The server was almost snarky, by asking the table when we had last been to dine at OMG. She informed us that the prior owner, the group that owned the wonderful Franklins in Hyattsville, had sold the OMG to The Hotel. The somewhat less than sympathetic notice of changed menu (which had also been reduced, apparently, to deal with graduation, somewhat perplexing since that would have seemed a good time to show off a variety of preparations) previewed what was a real weakness of the OMG - service. We had a person at the table with celiac, meaning NO gluten or cross-contamination. It took a consult with the chef to pick an item for her to eat, and it was served promptly with a large crouton on top. When we sent it back, it was returned by another plate - also with a large crouton on top. When the servers, who seemed to vary endlessly, in an attempt to bring food as it was cooked, finally got the order straight, it was a very long time before the correct item showed up.
Food was good. Not memorable, but very good, especially given the local competition. But the noise level, although better than the lobby area, which is positively hazardous to hearing and conversation, was high and not conducive to talking, a real issue for those of us who seek a place to do faculty interviews near campus.
The real strength was the oysters, great variety, not too expensive, but not a deal - they showcased almost a half-dozen little known local varieties, very nice.
Would I come back? Sure, perhaps for the bar and oysters. Pity they couldn't maintain the prior menu, which had been so well reviewed by local critics. Otherwise, it's just fairly regular fare, well prepared, nice environment, and close to UMD.
We happened to have dinner here over UMD graduation; place was busy, but server attentive...limited menu....we ordered a dozen raw oysters, which were delicious; two of us had the crab cake sandwich, which is served on a bun with tomato, etc and French fries...DEFINITELY over-prices at $24 a plate...
My son ordered the salmon with sauteed spinach and artichokes while my husband had the roast chicken with green beans and mashed potatoes. They were both satisfied with their order. I had the bad luck of ordering the fish and chips. The fish came in strips, no batter and was bland. They were served on a pile of soggy fries (i specified well done). The tartar sauce didn't taste anything like it should with the consistency of loose dressing. The waitress although friendly "didn't notice" that I wasn't served the oyster appetizers I ordered. The young man who seated us could learn to smile. The ambience is nice with wood paneling all around and the seats are comfortable. I really wanted to rave about this restaurant but it falls far from where it should be in a luxury hotel. I had breakfast here in a previous visit and I was very underwhelmed as well.
It is a casual restaurant. Sunday lunch was very good.
Had a wonderful time on Mother's day, went back on the 19th with my husband we had a great time.
Went for Mother’s Day dinner. The service was ok. Food was sub par. The menu was prix fixe for Mother’s Day which I’m pretty sure wasn’t advertised when I made the reservation.
Cheesecake was not the best (I've had much creamier), and my daughter said the noodles in her shrimp scampi were just so-so. All the other dishes were really good, especially my rack of lamb. Great atmosphere, and THE WELFLEET OYSTERS!
Surprisingly lovely Mother’s Day brunch! Food was delicious, service was good, and they happily accommodated my children.
Wonderful location and very pleasing setting. Wait staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. I would definitely like to return for dinner
The food here here is pretty good. I enjoyed the crab soup and my brother enjoyed the oysters. The spinach dip and the crab cakes are also done well. The problem here is the service. We waited at least 10 minutes before we were greeted and the waitress spilled water on my brother and didn't apologize instead she "said it was apart of the experience". Save the sarcasm and try and be professional. Food fours stars service one star.
Great service, good food, decent beer list. Went during a slow time however; 5:30pm on a Tuesday.
I was a little skeptical in dining here because of all the negative reviews, but I thoroughly enjoyed dining here. The service was fast and our server, Anton, was courteous and attentive. I visited at 6pm on a Friday evening and was seated right away. The food was delicious. I plan on returning again.
In cusine starved PG county OMG is a welcome addition. Their menu is imaginative and thoughtfully prepared. Servers are not well trained but highly visible. Ambiance could use some work.
Great place. Not too fancy but not too casual either. Came here after Easter service and was not crowded at all. Nice booth's and our waiter was great!
Sirloin and filet were cooked perfectly, and were tender and juicy!
Waiter was very nice and attentive.
Loved my dinner with my University of Maryland son. We both had the crab grilled cheese sandwich. Fun We will be back!!!
Overall, I was not all that impressed with the food at Old Maryland Grill. I had a crab cake sandwich with fries--too much filler in the crab cake and the fries were good, but not hot when they hit the table. My son had hanger steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. He enjoyed the steak but the portion was small for a $24 entree. Also, my son is a UMD student, so we went to the Grill for his 20th birthday dinner. We arrived at 6:30 intending to take advantage of the 50% off special on oysters during Happy Hour, but after being seated in the dining room, we learned that price was only available to bar customers. Since my son is not old enough to be served in the bar, we missed out. Very disappointing, and our waitress appeared to be in no position to assist with my complaint. All in all, it was just OK. I doubt we'll return.
