It was a mistake to schedule a business lunch here: way too noisy for business conversation. The food is good -- though the menu is limited -- and the staff is friendly and helpful. But with everyone in the place seemingly trying to out shout each other, it's not the place for serious talk.
Slow service, but food was worth the wait
We had a large group and were able to try a lot of different items on the menu, all of which were amazingly delicious. We had the dry aged steak which was cooked perfectly at medium rare. Also, ordered a variety of small plates to share with the entire table - definitely recommend for large groups so you can taste a lot of the menu.
Excellent experience. Old major never disappoints.
I was so excited to finally try Old Major, but I was disappointed by the service and value for price paid.
Delicious food and service!
Great food after a long wait, our order took 45 minutes to be served.
Granted it was restaurant week, but the service was super slow. We had been sitting at the table a whole hour and a half before our food came. Also - we all ordered the same thing (restaurant week menu) but the portions were drastically different, which was just kind of sloppy on their part. 4 people, 2 rounds of cocktails, restaurant week menu, and a charcuterie board, the total came to $400 with tip. I'm happy paying that for a wonderful meal, but in this case, I did not think it was worth it at all.
I like to think Old Major is better during regular weeks, but I don't know if I'll be going back again. I just think it's overrated.
We had a wonderful dinner!
We visited for restaurant week and were disappointed. My octopus was cut too large and was rubbery, the pork dish was over breaded and in need of a different sauce with 1 limp piece of broccoli and some clunky cheese grits. Our service was good but our friends got their meals 3-4 minutes before us which was awkward. The best part of the meal was the dessert and the cocktails.
Went for restaurant week. Time between courses was a little too long and the food was mediocre. The pretzel bites were good but the rigatoni was a little underwhelming.
We visited Old Major in 2016 and then again this past weekend. The food always exceeds our expectations and the service is more than accommodating. They had a special table set up with champagne for my fiancé’s birthday and were gracious enough to have a gift set aside that I had delivered. We will visit this restaurant anytime we are in the greater Denver area!
Went for lunch but there was almost nothing my vegetarian husband could eat on the lunch menu so left. Even though the rest of the menu looked really good, that's rather unusual these days so probably won't be going back. Very few people there so apparently no need to make a reservation for lunch.
My first visit was as part of Restaurant Week. The set menus offered seemed to be a good indication of the regular menu offerings, creative use of ingredients and quality, which was good. The service was also very good.
The downside was the noise level which was very high.
Old Major was great. Not too many vegetable/salad offerings, but we were expecting that with the description of specializing in pork on the website.
Our server, Joe, was a true professional. He was very informative about the restaurant and the preparation of the food we were going to enjoy. Service was appropriately attentive, and the timing was superb. The food was delicious. We appreciated the wine pairings. We plan to return!
The food was amazing! Highly, highly recommended!
Went for restaurant week and ordered off both that menu and added in some extras from the streamlined menu. All was great and service was fantastic!
My wife and I wanted to see what this was like and Restaurant week was a great chance to try a great menu with wine pairings. Thanks for a great night!
Great food. Very tasty and unique. A bit pricey but worth it.
This is one of my new favorite restaurants in Denver! We came here for restaurant week and will be back very soon. The Spanish octopus and the house made rigatoni are mouth watering and something that I would order again. Every course was cooked to perfection and we all talked about the dishes the next day and told others to go there. The wines that were paired with each course were also amazing. I can't wait to go back and try more dishes! the cocktails are also delicious and unique
I am afraid I was somewhat disappointed with Old Major this go round, which is unfortunate because I brought two people that had never been to this restaurant. There were only two options for the special Denver Restaurant week -one pork and one scallop (which may have been bad because I ended up getting sick just after leaving the restaurant. This was my third visit and had enjoyed the other two experiences. Or it could have been the octopus salad, not sure. Our waitress was slow and we had to wave her down frequently to get her to come to our table. She was not very knowledgeable in beer (ale) and wine recommendations either. Has Old Major changed to a new owner/manager?
We did enjoy dessert.
First time in. Long time on our list to visit. Impressed. Restaurant Week options were perfect. Regular menu looks amazing. Happy hour Imperial Beer from Costa Rica and a shot or bourbon. Yes please. Don’t forget dessert! Nicely done OM.
I feel like this restaurant has potential, but I went in for restaurant week and wasn't very impressed. The food was heavy and I didn't love the dessert or the third wine pairing. Wanted to love it but didn't. The service also felt a little rushed and that we were taken care of by multiple people.
Went for restaurant week and food was great! The octopus was absolutely amazing! Will definitely come back for that dish alone.
My boyfriend and I went for Denver Restaurant Week and the food was amazing and service was great! I have all good things to say and I can't wait to go back!
I would have to say the whole experience was great. We couldn't get over how amazing the cocktails were and that was just the start. Try the Winter in Mexico? or Dark and Stormy. So good! Service was first class and made the dining experience that much better. It was fun to hear the stories where and how much meat was used per week and the craft of curing. We thought the scallops were perfect and loved the creamed spinach. This is now one of our top 5 restaurants in Denver. Can't wait to go back.
Had to wait 45 minutes past our reservation time to be seated. Considering our reservation was at 8:45, this pushed dinner very late. Seems like a gimmick to make you spend money at the bar. Could have easily stayed at the occidental where drinks are much cheaper if hostesses has called and warned us. I usually love the food, but was disappointed with the restaurant week menu.
Everything was excellent. Brussel sprout salad was very good with the yogurt. I had read the 3lb pork chop was a must have and it lived up to the hype. The butterscotch creme de pot was out of bounds. Service was some of the best in Denver.
We went to Old Major during Restaurant Week. Our server was very friendly and helpful! The food was wonderful but for us it was a bit expensive. Definitely a "special occasion" venue.
For Restaurant Week, we were so excited to try Old Major because we've been wanting to eat there for years! The meal was in the top price echelon ($45) so we expected really delicious food and a lot of extra fanciness. The food was mostly delicious, but overall disappointing value at $45 each. For appetizers, we enjoyed perfectly cooked ziti with sausage and grilled octopus with potatoes and chorizo. The octopus was tasty and super tender. The entrees were St. Georges scallops, perfectly seared and sweet, and pork Parmesan with roasted broccoli. The broccoli was unseasoned and unimpressive, the pork was pretty heavily battered but a very generous portion. Desserts were butterscotch pot au creme with caramel sauce and lemon cake with berries and toasted marshmallow. Perhaps because we were so full we didn't fully appreciate desserts. The ordinary lemon cake wasn't very lemony and had a "rustic" texture but wasn't particularly moist. The pot au creme was curdled on the bottom but the shortbread pig-shaped cookie which accompanied it was full of butter flavor and wonderful. The restaurant was packed but not terribly loud, and lively but not difficult to converse. The waitstaff was attentive and friendly. The wine pairing was pretty good value.
Our first time here and it was for Restaurant Week. Server kept calling us "Friends"--repeatedly. The wait staff was numerous. The food was OK, on the salty side for 2 of my dishes. I was just expecting/hoping for the food to be more tasty or interesting.
Great food and service
Always fantastic. Portions, a bit BIG for me. Just more leftovers...yummm!
It had been a while since we went to Old Major, so we decided it was time for a return visit. As good as ever, excellent food and they do make the best Old Fashioned in Denver. Killer whiskey list and don’t miss the pork fat fries!
Loved the unusual range of items on the menu. The desserts were to die for. The entrees were prepared to order, and overall, the experience was a lot of fun. One complaint is that the waitress, although charming and informative, kept overlooking one of the people in our party. She failed to take her dinner order with the rest of the group, and we had to call her back to take the lady's dessert order after the others had been submitted. Needless to say, my guest was offended.
This was recommended to us by my daughter and her husband for our 45th Anniversary and we really enjoy ourselves. We ordered way to much food, but it was fun experiencing the different tastes and sights of our food. Excellent service, the best
Went out with my husband and friends and we were wowed. The service was outstanding and the food was out of this world. Will definitely be back. Word of advice make reservations if you are going for dinner on the weekend.
Great restaurant for when you’re feeling adventurous and want to enjoy new and interesting (and fantastic by the way) food with friends and family.
As visitors from NYC we have high standards. Old major was amazing; highly recommended.
