Old Lady Gang
Not really impressed. I had Ace’s Fish and Grits. The fish was fried so hard you could thump it and hear it. My drink was way too sweet with no real alcohol taste and was missing the cinnamon sugar around the rim which was probably a good thing being how sweet it already was. Then tried the house punch which was just mediocre nothing to brag about. However, the appetizers were good. The Salmon Bites and Fried Green Tomato’s were really good. I should have stuck with appetizers only! Our waiter was basically garbage. Very seldom did he come back to check on us. No refills on water. My sister had to drink my water. She also needed some steak sauce but again he did not come back so she ended up eating it bare. The spinach was so salty you couldn’t even swallow it. Overall it was not a great experience and it was very expensive. Needless to say I will not be returning and definitely won’t be taking my out of town guests there!
Old lady gang was a very friendly environment & the food was tasty
My family and I went there expecting to have a great experience. When we arrived we were greeted and had a chance to meet Kandy and her aunt, which was the best part of going there. However, we were seated under an air conditioner that was blowing directly on us. I food took forever. There was a party that came in 15 minutes after us, they were received their appetizers and entree before us and we placed our order before they were ever seated. By the time we got our appetizers, we were ready to walk out. We stayed but I can't say I would go back.
Food was awesome, server Rod was great, excellent customer service.
The atmosphere was ok, the noise level was low, the server was good. My food was good but my cousins food was cold, the Mac and cheese was a bit dry and the greens were sour. It took about 45 minutes for our food to come out and the restaurant wasn’t that busy. I would recommend it to my friends because I want everyone to have their own experiences.
The overall experience was okay. There were a few things that could have been better. 1. The service was slow. It took too long to be served. 2. Only 1 bathroom worked. Waiting to use the restroom was too long. The food was pretty good, served hot.
Crystal the bartender/server was AMAZING!!! Food is A1!!
I took family visiting from out of town here and as much as I liked the restaurant and the staff, my food was mediocre at best. It looked awesome too, fried chicken with macaroni and cheese and greens. My roots are southern and used to superb soul food. Sometimes what is awesome in a home kitchen is lost in translation on a restaurant level.
I’ve been here several times and always enjoyed my experience. But this visit was the worst. When I arrived my reservation was taken as in I was seated but a waitress NEVER came or even acknowledged us. Yet we observed 3 different waitresses in that area serving other tables. We asked the hostess several times for a waitress. We were then asked by the hostess to move to another section. There we still received subpar service.
When the food finally arrived the chicken on one plate was burnt and neither serving of chicken tasted like it was seasoned. The sweet potatoes and greens were both cold.
The music was very loud to the point we were both yelling across the table. I was there with another adult but was embarrassed for the families that were there on a Sunday with kids and grandmothers as the loud music blasted explicit derogatory lyrics.
I came from Jacksonville Florida and was very excited to come and experience the food. The atmosphere was a let down from how I thought it would be based on the tv show but thats ok. We went on a Sunday evening and they were out of collard greens and mac n cheese. (Most important things) it took 35 minutes just to get drinks, another 45-50 to get the food and every one in my party had to send something back because something from their order was wrong. I ordered fried chicken, tasted reheated not fresh, mashed potatoes were hard and stiff not creamy. Just a big disappointment being i came so far and was so excited.
The food was great ran out of Mac and cheese service was slower than expected but I understood the busy weekend overall a great experience definitely would try again when I’m in town
Booked a reservation and we were seating in a timely manner but the restaurant is too small and loud. Servers were decent but we had to track them down when we needed something. Food was cold and overpriced. Drinks were delicious and strong.
Not what I expected. Walking down the steps had a sour mildew smell. That carpet needs to be taken up immediately. Water was leaking from the back window and they stuffed paper towels in it. The waitress were dressed in all Jean (top and bottom) which gave it a prison inmate feel. The food was just OK.......
This was our 1st rime eating at OLG. We were a party of 3 women (2 from out of town and 1 local). We dined in the restaurant on a late Sunday afternoon.
The fried chicken was under seasoned (2 out of the 3 of us ordered fried chicken and thought this). The green beans were overseasoned. The mac & cheese was dry. The texture of the cornbread was pastey but the sweet sauce that accompanied it was good. Also, the salmon was delicious.
We made a reservation, arrived a little early, ordered in a timely fashion after being seated, but we ended up waiting an hour (give or take 10 mins) to get our food. Our server (short lady with very pretty nails) tried to keep us informed about the progress of our food but couldn't explain what the massive delay was for, nor offered to compensate us in any way (ie: offer a glass of wine, bread while we waited, etc).
Further, we were seated on the lower level. Upon walking down the stairs there was a foul (dirty water) smell permeating the level. I'm not sure if it went away or if we just got accustomed to the smell.
The location of the restuarant is 2 doors down from an ice cream shop, which was perfect bc we weren't interested in the limited dessert options on the OLG menu. We had dessert at the ice cream spot.
I would revisit again but def not for another several months, to give them time to work out kinks, gain more experience/tenure in the restaurant/food service arena.
Was a great experience we were looking forward to the fried devil eggs , breadpudding and frenchtoast but they were out. But everything else was great
I only had a problem waiting on my food, take over a hour for me & my guess to eat
I am from Birmingham, Alabama and decided to stay an extra night in Atlanta Sunday, June 23rd to eat at Old Lady Gang. I arrived at 2:00 and was immediately given a seat. My first thought as this is about to be an awesome experience. There were two of us and we ordered around 2:15. We waited a whole hour and a half and still had not received our food. We both ordered fried chicken, sweet potato soufflé and mac and cheese. Our food finally came after waiting two hours. When our food finally arrived, the mac and cheese was cold, we were advised the sweet potato soufflé was not ready, and chicken was cooked in grease that was burnt. We advised the waiter and he took it back to be recooked. We waited another whole hour and then asked to speak with the manager. She came out around 4:50 and made excuses saying the chicken was cooked in grease that had burned and they were running behind in the kitchen. She never offered an apology or offered to get our food out any earlier. We watched people that came over two hours after us get their food while we were still waiting. I wasted 15 dollars on parking and a whole afternoon. We left the facility without eating and just ate when we returned to Alabama. My first experience here was awful and I can not believe the attitude of the kitchen manager. If this is how this establishment is ran, I do not see it being opened long term. I never expected the type of treatment we received. We arrived hungry at 2:00 and left hungry at 5:00.
Overall experience was good. Waitress was great, the food just took an hour to come. Food and and drinks were great.
Every thing was great I had fried chicken Mac and cheese and greens and I didn’t need no salt nor pepper amazing.
Love the atmosphere. Outstanding service and the food was great. I love meeting Mama Joyce and Aunt Nora. Beautiful people!!
Catfish appetizer was delicious but wasn’t piping hot like any southerner would expect their fish. The fried deviled eggs were good. Had the fried chicken it was ok. Greens were full of stems and Mac and cheese was pretty decent.
The wait time for the food was over an hour for it to be less that hot but it was ok. Tried it but will not be a go to Resturant for me when I’m Atlanta
My reservation was at 3:00 had to wait 20 minutes before we were waited on. Two tables came after us and was waited on. Only one restroom working. I don’t like adding the tip when the service poor. The restaurant is overrated.
Reservation was made a month in advance, still had to wait 25 minutes. Took 30 minutes before our drink order was taken, an additional 10 minutes to get 3 Waters and 1 cocktail. Our waitress was working upstairs and downstairs. Two of three appetizers ordered arrived, the ribletts were tough. After having the appetizers for 20 minutes and food no where in sight, we finally left.
The service was not great. It took 45 mins to be seated for our 7:45 reservation. It was warm in our party room and we asked several times to turn the ceiling fan on. To finally be told it was broke. It took about 1hr 30mins from ordering our food to getting our food. My food was not hot. Others said their food wasn’t hot either. It wasn’t what we expected but it was nice to see Kandi face and take a picture with her and her son.
The food was seasoned very well, but room temperature at best and my cole slaw was warm.
The wait time was 1hr+ and I provided my name and phone number to let us know when the table was ready. After 50min, I went to check just to see if we were on track and they said they didn't have my name down. After going back and forth with them they seated us. The waitress was amazing. She was the best part of the whole experience. She was attentive and courteous; our orders were never wrong. The appetizers and drinks came out quick but the main entrees took another hour. The food itself was subpar; the seasoning was good but it was not hot. The chicken was good but the collard greens were too salty and no one liked the sweet potato souffle. I saw different tables sending their souffles back as well. They were out of desserts so we didn't get to experience those. Overall, I do not see myself ever going back.
I enjoyed my first visit to OLG and I will return in the future. Service at the bar can improve some, but the entire staff was nice and helpful. Food was delicious and the atmosphere is wonderful.
I had the chicken n French toast! It was sooooooooo good!!! I’ll be back!!
The food was delicious. However the grits served with the catfish did not have salt. I wasn’t sure if I needed to mix the grits with catfish to flavor the grits. Catfish was seasoned very well, lamb chops was tasty, drinks were nice and tasty, and the Mac and cheese was excellent.
The wait was long even with reservations for a Thursday night . I check back in with the front and then finally we were seated . Once seated the wait was longer for us to receive our food. Unfortunately the couple next stated we would probably eat in 45 minutes and they were correct. I finally, get the food and my utensils were dirty and the waiter stated he’d would get my plastic utensils but it need came. Fortunately the same couple gave me their daughters . I really came to support a black business while in Atlanta for a conference. I would like to say that the next time , would have been better as well as the geeks being hot next time . When in Atlanta I would recommend for others but I would not return for myself .
Service was ok food was amazing like before and it was cool to see Aunt Nora
Delicious food and great service!
Our server was great and the food was good but getting the food was a little slow.
We loved the place and our waitress. The problem we had was we ordered appetizers. And we got the deviled eggs And the Shrimp and grits. We ask for bowls/ little plates so we could share. But we were told they were out of these. Now it’s only 1PM. So 3 of us are sharing them. So ate the deviled eggs on a napkin, and had to keep reaching in the grits with our spoon to share them. Now that was gross. This was uncalled for.
I was there last week with my family. I was sat on the basement level which has a little smell maybe due to the building being old..The table they sat us at was broke and we did have children which is why I believe they sat us there. The food is very over priced and was not that great. The shrimp and grits need to be perfected. The sliders I guess were ok but are very over priced because u only get two for like 12 or 13 dollars. The one thing I did like were the deviled eggs were great though. Also u have to pay for parking and it’s 10.00 that’s a little too much when the food is not that great. Parking should be complimentary.
I loved how patient the waiter was. Also, the Bob Marley and the Sneaky Ga Peach where nice and refreshing. The food was truly amazing. My picky eater grandson could not wait till the food cooled down. He ate the chicken while it was hot.
However, in the party room the voices echoed and made it hard to hear at times. Yet, that would not stop me from coming again.
I would recommend OLG for the food but not the service. We had reservation for 8:30pm and we did not get our table until 9:40pm. I had to go ask 3 times for our table the first time they said it would be 10 mins. 10 mins turned into 30 mins then they told me that table was for someone else that we were next. Now they never came to tell me that I had to go and ask them. The food was great no complaints on that.
Waitress was awesome
Great family atmosphere! We had reservations, they sat as soon as we got there. We requested party of 6, they accommodated 8, without a problem. Thank you for that. Food was good the sever was very attentive. We will definitely be back, when we come back to Atlanta. Mama Joyce was the nicest, my daughters loved her she really made them feel special. Thanks for a great experience!
The service was horrible and the food was cold. The space was small didn’t have much room to walk through. The waiter offered us free cornbread because of the wait we were sitting for 30min before our order was taken. Then an hour and a half before food was brought out which was cold.
