the woman who was charging of reception was bad.
It was best friends birthday and he wanted to get steaks and drinks. We have already done del frisco & Keens. A friend recommend old homestead and we were not disappointed. We ordered the slab of bacon as an appetizer and the dry age porterhouse for 2, we were not disappointed
Over ratec.... won't go back
The place has exceptional service and outstanding food.
Eh not too great
I must preface this by saying, "this is a steakhouse!" We came here for my son's birthday dinner. There were six of us and everyone ordered steak except me. The steaks were fabulous, but the fish I ordered was VERY fishy and salty. I did not eat more than 2 bites. The sides were amazing and the service was fantastic. We were in a corner table upstairs that was very tight, but was fine. Overall, a very good meal with excellent wine, but at $900, without dessert, I want to eat more than 2 bites.
Typical steakhouse fare.
The best steak I have ever had. Quick and and polite service from the whole staff
Old Homestead is a classic.when possible when in NYC we dine their great steaks and great service.I had ribeye spouse had filet .Salad was as usual excellent Great Night
We were there celebrating my husbands bday. The food was amazing, service impeccable. We arrived a little early and the restaurant was able to seat us immediately. Also, the servers came out to sing to my husband although we never told them to do so. We weren’t sure how they even knew. Lol
Great sirloin steaks, garlic mashed potatoes, creamed spinach and Merlot.
Always top notch food and service! If you love steak try the wagyu A5. Melts in your mouth. Nothing like it. Highly recommend
My son and I had a very wonderful dinner together. Food and service was impeccable.
This place has been around forever, and oozes an old world NYC steakhouse vibe. Unfortunately, the steaks we were served did not live up to eitherr our expectations based on previous meals there, or the (very high) prices. We were seated very close to the people next to us (got to hear the waiter tell him his credit card was declined... oops). Frankly, at these prices, the steaks need to be excellent, and these weren't. No better than the steak you get at your neighborhood restaurant at half the price. We both ordered ours medium. My wife's was overdone, bordering on well. Mine was under-cooked, bordering on rare. Sad to say, we won't be back, as I have fond memories of going there with my parents, in the 1960-70s.
Great first experience! Highly recommend this restaurant!!
Overrated. Waitress was good but the food is not worth the price. Potatoes were rock hard. Steak was average. Highly overrated. Atmosphere sucks. Boooooring. Resting on their laurels.
If yu want a good steak downtown, this is your best bet. Period.
Birthday Dinner for our son. First time visit for us after 44 years in New York. It was the Birthday Boy’s choice.
The food was excellent-I mean everything. We had fun with the waitstaff. The young people around the table found them engaging. I personally would have appreciated a little more distance. It’s a New York steakhouse-you should expect to get a little “roughed up”.
All-in-all, a competitive NYC Steakhouse experience.
Quality of the meat was not up to standard I would expect.
I had not been to OH for many years and had very good memories of a wonderful dinner. This time around no so great. Steak was good but not great, and the sides were absurdly small for the price. For such a costly dinner, I was expecting better. I will say their chocolate cake was easily the highlight of the meal.
Steak and lobster were over cooked. Beet salad/Baked clams were delicious. Somewhat disappointed considering the money spent.
Amazing food! Loved it. Steaks cooked to perfection!
Food is good , but way too loud & tables too close together...
Excellent Food, Fantastic Service We were very happy with both service and food
Wonderful old tried and true restaurant. We celebrated a family birthday and the people couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. The food was terrific.
There was some loud and strange fight between patrons at the adjacent table, which was very strange... The staff wasn’t sure what to do with them... Food was good, but my prime rib was a bit tough - perhaps too rare - but the filet mignon au poibre and ribeye with lobster and bacon were great. Lobster bisque was also very tasty. Still the prime rib wasn’t worth $60, given how tough and stringy it was...
Very good . Service excellent . No rush
The steak for two was the size of a steak for one, the creamy spinach wasn’t great. The carpaccio was small and underwhelming.
The waiter on the second floor with the glasses on Valentine’s Day was a little rude. Made me feel uncomfortable because we aren’t drinkers or over eaters. On top of that I came all the way from Brooklyn ordered a huge steak and 4 sides. Asked them to wrap it and only the steak made it home with me. Which the only good thing about that was the bone for my dog. Great piece of meat but not seasoned good at all. I think the best in there was the bread I had to pay for because you guys don’t give complimentary bread which is absurd. We weren’t even offered a dessert menu which I’m probably glad because I would of felt uncomfortable sharing it with my loved one. Next time I know to call Ruth Chris or Mastros. Better atmosphere and all around better service and cuisine.
Dinner was amazing and timely. Our server was pleasantly impressive and kind.
Excelente Gracias a todos que hicieron posible esta cena tan rica y amena. El filet mignon de otro nivel y el puré de papa wow
This my favorite steakhouse in NYC. I go here every time I visit there. The food and service is always topnotch.
Best steak ever! Try the slab of bacon. Thing is unreal
It was my first time dining there. My son has frequented the restaurant and recommended that we have lunch. The food was AMAZING. I was so full and content when I left. We couldn't have dessert because we were too full. Definitely returning and recommending.
I've lived in New York my entire life and have never been to Old Homestead. I've indulged at Peter Luger's, BLT, Sparks, Striphouse, Uncle Jack's, STK - the list is endless, we love red meat. To celebrate an early Valentine's Day, my husband and I decided the time had come to try this old New York staple. How I wish we hadn't.
From the moment the iPad with drinks was plopped onto our table, I knew there was trouble. This wasn't some Times Square Guy Fieri establishment. Our Old Fashioned's had muddled maraschino fruit salad at the bottom - for anyone who has ever had an Old Fashioned, you know this is a huge no no and from there I knew where the rest of the dinner was headed.
Our waiter forgot what we ordered about 2 minutes after we placed it.. we got a steak, it is a steakhouse. My husband's Onion Soup was good - my caesar salad looked like something that came from a buffet and had sat for much too long. THE SECOND our appetizers were cleared, our porterhouse arrived at the table. It was obvious it had been sitting under a heat lamp waiting for me to fork the last of my wilted iceberg lettuce into my mouth. Our once medium steak was now medium well - no long warm - with no flavor. For $115, it was also the smallest porterhouse for two people I have ever seen. The garlic mashed potatoes were the one highlight of the meal and the asparagus were nothing to write home (or on Yelp) about. We normally enjoy a second drink over a steak dinner, but the sooner we could get out of there the better. We have not been this disappointed over a meal in New York in a long time - from the ambiance to the service to the drinks to the STEAK, it was just bad.
Everything was great as expected. I was seated comfortably at table 10. The food, bottle of wine and service was top notch. The whole evening was perfect except for the rain on our way out...should’ve stayed for after dinner drinks and waited for the rain to pass.
I’ve been to the Old Homestead many times, but it’s the first time I’ve been back in 20 years. Great atmosphere, great food! My wife and I really enjoyed our dining experience!
All 3 diners recognized the steaks we received were not of the quality we expected. In fact, we were all surprised at the inferior level coming out of a kitchen we have enjoyed before. The fact I had a gift certificate that stated to present to the floor staff before ordering had something to do with that. Any way, best of luck going forward. I know how difficult margins are, especially at a “Steakhouse “.
