Old Homestead Steakhouse- New York City Ratings and Reviews
Beefsteak and mozzarella cheese "salad" big disappointment. The mozzarella was too mushy and portion for the excellent beefsteak tomatos too small. Was much better in the old OLD HOMESTEAD.
Also the sides were disappointing to say the least. The creamed spinach not only did not taste fresh, but portion was small. We ordered two for a table of six, and was still left wanting.
The fried onion rings used to be an onion roll. Now its just boring Denny's type fried onion rings. Not that there is anything wrong with Denny's but at over $800.00 for six folks, we expect top of the line. This steak house has lost its luster. Although it was booked solid. with lots of noise.
My experience from the time I walked in wasn’t good but overall the place was busy and looked like it could of been a better experience. The bartender while waiting never took a drink order and their was plenty of time to do so. Just ignored us. The staff was awful and the table next to me dinning wasn’t happy either yet the table on the other end was treated great. Waiter never even came and got the check atlest the bus staff was nice. Maybe something was going on behind the scene. Food was ok again had expectations. Wasn’t amazing. Just not what I expected at all.
We have been to Old Hoemstead in Atlantic City and wanted to try the original. This place was Fantastic, it started with our amazing server. Each dish was perfectly prepared and delishous. If you like a great steak come here stay away from those other places this is the real deal
Well... my wife and I , eat out once a week, we saw old Homestead Steakhouse on Viceland and decided to try it out, we walked in and it wasn’t quite what we had expected, fine..
we had the beet salad lobster bisque and lump crabmeat.
Lobster bisque had no chunks of lobster like we’re accustomed to.. good but not great.
Just ok to be honest..
And the crab meat is just cold chunks of crabmeat..whatever, cool.
Now for entrees... as I rubbed my hands together..
We ordered the Filet mignon , lobster Mac and cheese with jumbo shrimp scampi
To say we got scam out of the scampi is an understatement
No lobster in the Mac and cheese and the filet wasn’t medium rare at all.. dude I really hate to complain at restaurants and I didn’t... and I’ve never written a review!!!!... this $250 dinner, didn’t taste like it should’ve, I’m sorry.. I’ll never go back.
First time here and it was great! Nice atmosphere, was slightly drafty sitting near the front of the dining room, but still enjoyable. The steaks were TOP NOTCH! I’ve been searching for a great steak in NYC for some time, let me tell you this is the place! Perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked, just DELICIOUS! Definitely give this place a chance if you are looking for a great steak!
My fiance and i loved the location at the borgata but did not enjoy the nyc location as much. The waiters were amazing and personable. However, my lobster tail came out many minutes after our steak and was not fully cooked. Also, i was hoping to have a drink at the bar before our reservation but the bar was tiny. Our food also came out too quick and people were on top of us so we could hear all conversations. Our romantic night out after 2 years was $485 expensive, rushed and couldnt have a private moment in conversation. The only positive was that my waiter was incredible!
We go to fine steakhouses all the time and have frequented the Old Homestead at the Borgata in A.C. The food and service there has always been excellent. Based on that, when we were staying in NYC we decided to try Old Homestead. The food was very good but the service was inexcusable. Our waiter took our order, brought our drinks and we barely saw him after that. We split a salad, the plates were thrown down in front of us. They didn't split the salad or even give us a spoon to do that. There was no salt and pepper on the table and no one offered any- we had to ask. Not once after delivering the main course did anyone ask if everything was ok. Every time our water glasses were empty, we had to ask for a refill, sometimes twice.
Very poor service for a restaurant with those kind of prices. It doesn't appear that management really cares because I've seen many reviews like this on trip advisor.
Better off going to Mortons, Sparks or Ruths, etc.
Have the server repeat your order. Our server misheard “fries” instead of our actual order of “creamed spinach”... and he was insistent we ordered fries so they followed up with the creamed spinach but we were ultimately charged for the fries too. Went during the holidays so wasn’t in the mood to argue the bill.
Came for a 30th Birthday. Everything was very good. Everyone enjoyed the food. The service was lacking a bit. The waiter wasn’t as attentive as we had hoped for. We ended up taking a total of three hours to complete our meal start to finish without having any dessert or coffee. Overall though still was a good experience.
We had a reservation at 6pm and we were able to walk right in and were sat right away. Our service was top notch with several servers watching over the table. All were attentive to the pace of the meal and anticipated anything we needed before hand. The food was served in a timely fashion. All items arrived as ordered. The onion soup was superb, a must try when you visit. Our shrimp cocktail was of a grand size and the lobster bisque was served with a side shot of sherry. Our steaks and sides all came out together and we all enjoyed the portion sizes. From the 20 ounce burger, 40 ounce bone in rib eye, and the 14 ounce sirloin, all were enjoyed. Save room for desserts as we did! The chocolate cake and creme brulee would bring us back again. We enjoyed our first visit here as we planned a quick trip to the city during the holiday.
We dined here to celebrate our 44th anniversary. The ambiance is typical upscale NYC steakhouse. The service was prompt and efficient. We both had the salad which was rather large and tasty. I had the ribeye steak and my wife had the salmon. Both portions were huge. My steak was cooked medium rare just as I requested. My wife's salmon was medium. The quality of both was outstanding. For dessert we both had the chocolate cake. It appeared to be homemade and came served with blackberries and blueberries. It was to die for. If you are looking for a great steakhouse somewhat off the beaten path, this is the place for you.
My mum and I went for Christmas dinner. The service was outstanding and the waitress was considerate. The signature center cut sirloin was delicious and was the best steak I have ever had. We also tried the raw bar including shrimp, oyster, and lobster, the food was fresh, especially the big-size shrimp. Two things that need to note that the restaurant seems crowded and noisy, since we almost sat together with other tables with little privacy. The other one is that the steak does not includes salads and choice of sides that I have to spend another $32 for salads and onion rings. I know this is the premium steakhouse and not like the chain restaurant such as outback, but it will be better to make it all-in-one. All in all, this restaurant is worth for the fantastic taste of steak, strongly recommend. I will definitely come again next time in NYC trip.
Returned to Old Homestead excited for a holiday celebration with the family. Was really disappointed at how terrible the service was. Lackluster. Unfriendly. Mistakes with food orders. Rude. Completely not special in any way at all. All for $400. This place has deteriorated into a tourist trap factory. Might as well be in a sue urban strip mall
I requested a quiet table for my Honey's birthday and was not disappointed. The service was great! The food was delicious! The only thing I would suggest is not so much truffle oil in dishes. My companion had an allergy to truffles and we really wanted to try the lobster mac and cheese but it had truffle oil in it, as did a vegetable dish and one of the 3 sauces for the steak. Coming from a chef family, truffle oil is expensive and rarely discerned by the average palate so not a critical ingredient. The wine we ordered was delicious and we had a wonderful time. Thank you to the staff and our complements to the chef!
Hands down one of the best (IMHO- the best) traditional steakhouses in NYC. NYC steakhouses are among the best in the world for amazing, traditional steaks without the fluff. Amongst them Old Homestead, to me, stands out as the best so far. Not often named amongst the likes of Keen’s, Delmonico’s, Peter Luger’s, Ben’s, etc (which we’ve all been to more than a few times) in reviews and magazines but outside of marketing fluff- Old Homestead’s got them beat! We recently had our regular “Scotch and Steak” boys’ night out and this place had us all asking ourselves why we overlooked this NYC Flatiron landmark before. We followed the reviews and the marketing which landed us everywhere else over the last 2 years but we've missed out. Their smoked bacon is thick and comes from higher up the side than regular bacon so the meat:fat is unreal and perfectly smoked!!
Visiting NYC, this restaurant came highly recommended by some friends from NYC. We Ubered from Times Square and it was worth the ride. Filet mignon was so tender and the prime rib was also delicious. Portion size was great. Love the look of the restaurant and the service was excellent. We would definitely go back next time we are in NYC.
