Old Homestead Steakhouse- New York City
Seasoned Potato, Bordelaise
Sweet Thai Chile Sauce, Roasted Cashews
I have wanted to dine here for several years. It did not disappoint. Nice classic steak house experience.
Outstanding prime rib as always.
The food was outstanding from appetizers to main course to dessert. Everything was great. Service was excellent and very personable waiters.
Evening was great
Super loud tables around us. Could barely hear one another
Server was good. Not overly friendly but we got what we needed
First time dining, came recommend by a friend who lives in NYC. Everything you could want in a 100+ year old steakhouse. Service was excellent, as was each course. Would definitely visit again.
Waiter service was great. However, hostess, welcome to the restaurant was poor. The male host openly welcomed white patrons while as an African American patron I was not acknowledged. When it was my time to be served or seated if I hadn’t gone back to the front to ask about being seated I may not have been. So I was not happy with that. I have been to this restaurant a few times so I was shocked and disappointed!!
Always great to come here. Brought the alumni rep for my Alma Mater who was quite impressed. Hid Dad is a major league coach and don’t be surprised when when some of those big appetites show up for dinner when in town...that is those not in the know yet.
My favourite steakhouse in NYC. I never miss it out whenever travelling there
The food was absolutely stellar and worth the bill. Had to wait at the bar about 20 min for reservation, but overall a pleasant experience.
Good food and service in a place in desperate need of an uplift...
We had a great time. Food was amazing. Pricey, sure. But it's NYC. Superb service, and good cocktails.
Had a nice dinner there with some friends. We were a party with five adults and one infant. The staff was able to get us a table that was big enough to accommodate us and a high chair in short order.
The meal itself was quite good. Needless to say, there was top-notch steak, which one might expect. Our table had a rib steak, a prime rib, and a porterhouse, and everyone at the table was happy with their steak. However, we also partook of some shellfish for starters, and it was excellent as well. We had big platter of raw shellfish--east and west coast oysters--which was brilliantly fresh, briny, and right on target. Additionally, we ordered two plates of clams oreganata. They were surprisingly good. The clams were large and meaty, but not overly chewy, and the breading, while flavorful, did not overwhelm the flavor of the clams. We did not expect the shellfish, both raw and cooked, to be as good as it was. It enriched our meal immensely. Overall, a great dinner in terms of the food and service.
everything was delicious, $60 prime rib was out of this world
Very good- wait staff was very nice- door people need more polish
Delicious food. Room was loud hard to hear across a table for 4. Very expensive but we knew that and had planned for that. We ate every bite of out food.
We met another couple here--a place my husband has had in his sites for quite some time. We've done Keen's but The Old Homestead is even older so it was tops on our list. We waited for our friends at the bar which is relatively small, seats maybe 8; there are also 3 hi-tops but they're right in the entryway. I was disappointed in the slim choice of wines by the glass and maybe its because I was drinking white (and yes I understand that its a steak house and most people drink red); I had both the Sauv Blanc and the Chard. Both were adequate. I expected better. Once seated (on the main floor) for our 6pm reservation, the table started with: 1/2 doz West Coast oysters which were tender and succulent; a chopped salad that we all shared and the spicy calamari. As main courses we had 3 NY sirloin steaks (2 12oz and 1 14 oz) and the lamb chops. All were quite good, my husband said his sirloin was "excellent." Sides ordered with the main courses: creamed spinach, mushrooms, asparagus w/hollandaise. All were tasty although the hollandaise really didn't have any taste at all but the asparagus wasn't overcooked which is unusual. We finished with single malt scotch and a shared Creme Brulee with a nice crunchy top. The waiter was very nice and very attentive.
Very friendly to enjoy the delicious food.
Best steak burger I've ever had.
Food was ok. Steak not seasoned. Dessert was sent back and spoons had a HORRIBLE smell. Waiter burped in front of our table.
Overpriced, not wonderful. My colleague left a fairly small tip and the waiter refused to take the receipt back until it was amended which was awkward. I apologised and amended it but that was insanely rude, particularly as the meals arrived cold and the drinks were bad.
Great an very profesional personnel, I always go back
It was my first time there.. We were celebrating my son's 16th birthday! I'd go back! everyone was happy!
Tired and over priced. Paying for something in the past. Not clean. Snippy service. Don’t go.
Worth the wait for sure. Celebrated my husband's birthday and he was extremely happy with the outcome. Andy, Our waiter was AMAZING. Kept checking in on us to make sure we where ok. The food was DELICIOUS. WINE, SUPERB, and most importantly the kids had a wonderful time. We where even talking about doing this once a month. THANK YOU!THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Everything is always so delicious. Get the bread tower and ask for extra parmesan cream sauce on the side. You won’t be disappointed.
Very disappointing the service the ambiance- the steak was ok but overall extremely disappointing!
Had reserved a tabled 2+ weeks in advance at 8pm. Arrived 10 minutes before our reservation, checked in & weren't seated until 8:35. Our waiter spent more time singing Happy Birthday than waiting on us, ordered a medium rare 18 once steak that was burnt on the outside & raw on the inside so I guess it was medium rare as a whole & the baked potato was stone cold. I guess the lobster bisque was good, but I was there for steak. Fortunately there was a very nice couple beside us in this cramped unreasonably loud space that made great conversation while our waiter ignored us. Won't ever return, but I doubt we will be missed
Good food. Love the local flavor. The calamari was bad but the rest was good. Service was spotty but they were very busy. I would go back.
A pretty good steak and good ambiance. Well worth the recommendation. Good date night spot.
My wife and I had dinner here recently (first timers) on a Saturday night. It's rare for me to go to a steakhouse and not get a steak, but that's exactly what I did this time. I absolutely love a good burger, so I went with the 16 ounce porterhouse burger, which was a beast! I asked for my burger well done (my mistake), but it was still incredibly juicy, and flavorful. I managed to polish off the entire thing, and I was still full about four hours later. I had a side of fries, and broccoli, which weren't anything special. The broccoli lacked any true flavor, so I resorted to salt and pepper to jazz it up. My wife (not a meat eater) opted for the Branzino, which she thought was a bit salty (it had both capers and olives). Overall, I thought the burger was a pleasant surprise, so I would come back again. The place isn't huge, which means the tables are really crammed together.
Hands down the best steak we have ever ate
The restaurant was overbooked and we were seated at a folding table despite making this reservation in December. The waiters were clearly stressed by the overwhelming amount of customers (which is understandable) and the overcrowding caused many issues with serving food and taking orders. The food was decent, however my filet mignon was overcooked. The experience was not what I was expecting, especially since this is my favorite restaurant.
It was a very disappointing experience tonight. It was supposed to be a nice steak dinner for Valentine’s Day. Every part of our meal was a problem. The drinks were wrong, the appetizers were wrong, and the steak was not cooked to temperature. It’s a freakin steakhouse. You make steaks 200 times a day? And a $120 filet mignon for 2, that is pre-sliced, should not come to the table UNDERCOOKED. The neighboring table had the same problem. It’s unacceptable. Even the complementary dessert was a huge disappointment. And the topper, on the way out, the girl who had taken our coats came along and upon seeing our ticket, she announced “I’m clocked out!” I won’t be dining here again.
My favorite Steakhouse!!! Service is always on point. Food is delicious
Not worth it.
Great food and service. Wine prices offer a wide selection range. Crab cakes especially tasty.
Was good. Not great. Raw bar was ok. Raw clams were good. West coast oysters a bit more “fishy” than usual. Bone in ribeye for two was good but not real flavorful plus had large unappealing membrane throughout which should’ve been butchered out at a steakhouse of this reputation. And wasn’t real hot when arriving at table. Certainly understand and appreciate a rested steak but...For what we paid (inclusive of tip was just under $400 for 2 with two glasses of wine and one drink) and the reputation was expecting a lot better. For that price we’ve been to one or two other NYC Steakhouses which were far superior. Asparagus was very good. Truffle Mac n cheese was good but served as a kiddie portion.
For a historic steakhouse one would expect the steak to be the shining star... Unfortunately not the case, and also not a complete loss. The best part of the meal was the appetizer, service was great, and even the atmosphere nice. I just wish the steak stood up to history.
Old Homestead was one of the few big name steakhouses we hadn’t dined with. Our experience was very good, but nothing stood out as excellent.
I had the wedge salad and my wife had the buffalo mozzarella with tomatoes to start. For our mains, I had the signature sirloin and she had the steakhouse burger, both cooked to perfect medium rare. We split the creamed spinach and bacon. Everything was good, but nothing truly shined.
We skipped dessert and headed home having enjoyed a satisfying meal, but decided we probably won’t go again. The service was as expected and nothing wrong with the food, yet the experience overall was fine but not memorable.
If you’re looking for a classic steakhouse menu, this will do, but at this price point, I expect a little more.
