An "OK" experience in every aspect. Had spent lots of time researching the wine list from their website...to then be given a completely different (and far inferior) list at the table. Ordered a '19 Napa Cab Sauv and was brought a '21. Shrimps and calamari to start was very tasty. Sharing porterhouse and filet mignon were great pieces of meat but overcooked-asked for med rare but definitely med at least. Sides were good. Didn't have room for dessert. Nothing bad about the experience but suspect there are dozens of better options.

Lots of great steak/meat and a la carte side options. Good portions. Fresh cuts of meat. Service was really good. Staff professional, friendly, and attentive. Definitely will go back. Prices not cheap, but hey, it’s the city and the food and service largely made the value appropriate.

I love the fact that this place is very old...historic...and appropriately, in the Meatpacking District. ;-) Decor is very old-school...classic steakhouse. Service was very good...attentive...without being overly-intrusive. We got a filet mignon (very good...had a teeny bit of fat..but that's to be expected I suppose). The potato that came with it was good...nothing spectacular. My friend got a kobe burger. It sure looked very good, from what I could see. I tried her fries. They were ok...nothing great. Got a side of asparagus and it was cooked perfectly.

High quality meat in a cozy ambiance. Service was fast. Prices are high, especially for the wine, but that's the standard in the city for a good steakhouse

For the price you are paying for the food and trying to enjoy a nice evening out - not everyone at this restaurant feels the same and the staff do little to address it. There was a young child watching a cartoon on an iPad next to us in full volume.

Steak was not worth the hype at ALLL!! There sides were wayyyy better than there steak. We had their porterhouse and 40 day age steak and it was not good at all. I’ve had better steak at salt grass. This place is a joke

Steak was mediocre. Crab cake was cold. Wasn’t horrible but certainly not one of the great (and often overrated) NyC steakhouses.

I hadn’t been there in a while and, frankly, was a little wary. I feared it might be resting on its laurels. An icon, not really a restaurant. Man, was I wrong. This is as good a restaurant of its kind in New York, and I say that as a native Manhattanite and as someone who has been to and enjoyed all of the more celebrated and trendy names that serve similar dishes. The various steaks, especially the ribeye, were extraordinary (right word). Everyone in our foodie group of eight felt that way, and we felt the same about the asparagus—cooked expertly—the cream spinach and the potatoes. Just a great night that wasn’t overpriced. We will all be regulars there. Bravo to the service, too. Lone qualms: They need to add some better medium-priced wines to their list. It’s just too ordinary. We brought three bottles of our own—each was excellent and ran around $25 per—and paid the hefty $45 per bottle corking fee and it was worth it. And they need to offer full cakes for celebrations. We brought a small birthday cake from Whole Foods (delicious) and paid the $10 per plate fee. However, if they had been able to tell me they had a cake that they could do with writing for, say, $125 or a little more (ours worked out to $105), I would have happily said yes. We needed a full cake. Individual pieces wouldn’t have made it. Small stuff. Here’s to an icon that’s also a great restaurant.

I’ve been to the Old Homestead multiple times and this was the worst dining experience I’ve had. The service was poor, the wrong food was served & the steaks were cooked poorly. When one dines at one of the oldest steakhouses in the country, you tend to expect that medium rare will not be confused with tartar. My daughter ordered a burger that was gargantuan and very undercooked for medium. I did’t get what I paid for and won’t return.

I have visited many times and spent this visit celebrating my brother in law’s birthday. Suffice to say the Gotham bone-in ribeye was presented exactly to his liking. The asparagus and broccoli paired perfectly. A good time was had by all of us.

Never had worse service in my entire life. Waitress came over asked if we wanted water, said not one other word and immediately asked for our order. We were moved and received no attention rest of the night. Sad when you’re spending $300. With all that said, our food was still great. So not a total loss.

Slow night - took a business friend here from out of town. Service was great, but 2 servers that brought out our steaks got it completely wrong - didn't make a fuss at restaurant but they really need to get their game straight - should really have something visual to identify the doneness of the steak - they clearly cannot get it right without some sort of visual - this has happened multiple times now here. And given the price and reputation - this SHOULD not even be an issue. Homestead chosen over Keen's this night, next time I'll go straight to Keen's.

The food was very good but not exceptional as I expect for the prices charged. BUT the service was absolutely horrible. The waiter took 15 minutes to bring the catalogues. When ordering he repeatedly said OK without making any recommendations. Never cracked even a faint smile. His behavior was almost rude. Never brought the ordered drinks before the food. The appetizer came 15 minutes later, and he did not bring the drinks asking again what we ordered. The main course was served 45-50 minutes after we were seated. We asked for salt and pepper, and he brought them dumping them on the table together with a plastic bottle of some kind of steak sauce we did not ask for. AGAIN, this service level is utterly unacceptable for the prices charged.

Service and ambience are always on point here. In the past I’ve had some not-so-exceptional meals but this time everything was pretty perfect. I did ask for a ‘true medium’ temp on our prime aged steak, which was the highest priced steak on the menu. It came out rather rare but was quickly remedied. I get it - easier to continue cooking a rare piece of meat than to overcook it the first time. But an experienced chef ought to be able to gauge the difference and prepare accordingly. Small complaint given that when the steak arrived prepared to my liking it was absolutely delicious and tender, seasoned well if not a tad too much salt. Onion soup is one of my favorite things on the menu and indeed even my favorites from any local restaurant. Service was attentive without being intrusive - a finessed balance that only a handful of waitstaff have cultivated (at least lately). Fastest $350 spent in years but a great meal on a special day that made it all worthwhile.

To begin with the joint looks tired, the servers are slow and have no flair for the business. At those prices the bread service is by request, my wife and I sat there hungry waiting for our appetizers which came out way overcooked. We had ordered a NY Cut Sirloin that were tough and dry. The waiter was rude and rushed us all through the meal. A complete disaster!

Meal for 2 - $240. Late evening reservation. Previous server reviewing, so I am very understanding of busy wait staff. Server made us feel rushed, simply came to table and said what can I get you. I had to go get him once and flag him down once. Food was dropped at table, no words spoken, no check back, no question of dessert. This restaurant had slowed down by this time. I had higher expectations. We would have spent more money on an additional side, dessert and drinks if the server had checked back. I wish we could have enjoyed your establishment! I was looking forward to it.

I hadn’t been to Old Homestead in years but went last night. For early Saturday night, service was off and felt rushed. The quality of appetizers has definitely gone downhill. For example the Beefsteak tomatoes weren’t fully ripe and the amount of bleu cheese was minimal. The steak was still well cooked but it just feels like the quality of service and presentation have diminished and there are too many similar restaurants for Old Homestead to get another chance.

Foos and ambiance was great, unfortunately we were an after thought to our waiter. Our food came out after other tables had arrived they ordered and received food before us, then after we were all done I asked our waiter what happened and he claimed “they fired it late” wish he would have communicated that to us.
