Old Europe opened in 1948 and specializes in serving classic cuisine from various regions of Germany. The interior looks as if it could be taken from a Berlin restaurant in the 1400s. Everything from the décor to the table setup harkens back to earlier times. Old Europe has been recognized by Mobil Travel Guide, Washingtonian Magazine and Zagat, all of which praise its authentic approach to European fare. The Old Europe menu is wholly and unapologetically German. These are dishes diners won't find in many other restaurants, like the marinated herring in a sour cream sauce with apples and onions, garnished with a small salad bouquet. Guests with a large appetite should try the wurstteler, a combination of handmade German sausages like bratwurst, knackwurst, bauern wurst and Debreziner wurst.
