Old Bag of Nails - Centerville
I have my great-Uncle Gaylord's famous pub food recipes, and I also have his name. Believe me, I've had a much tougher time getting through life with this name than he did.
I called my pub "The Old Bag of Nails" because the first one was in an empty hardware store. My great-uncle Gaylord called his pub "The Cauliflower Blowfish" and I don't have the foggiest notion why.
And every day people stop by for great food, great spirits and an occasional hammer.
Eat. Drink. Enjoy yourself.
I sure do.
Thin slices of our Hand-Battered Fish, topped with Spicy Shredded Lettuce Slaw and Salsa. Served with Tortilla Chips and Sour Cream
Chicken Salad, Hot Italian, Blackened White Fish Po' Boy, Grilled Cheese, Tuna Melt
Shrimp Po' Boy
Crispy fried Shrimp, tossed with shredded Lettuce, Tomato, Onion and Cajun Mayo. Stuffed in a fresh-baked Hoagie, and served with a side of your choice
Very nice environment, good service and food.
Arrived to find that they were closed for an employee Super Bowl Party. Wasted drive for lunch... will not return.
I had a shrimp Po Boy. Contents inside were good. However, the bun was like plain Wonder Bread. Better to buy crispy Kaiser buns, cut open, smear butter on both cut surfaces, and grill until golden brown. That makes a great Po Boy sandwich.
Fried fish (the house specialty) is excellent. Cole Slaw is very good, too.
First time to the Bag of Nails. What a pleasant surprise. Great atmosphere and service. Delicious sauerkraut balls! Excellent salmon sandwich. We'll be back!
We were traveling in the area, and this Pub was recommended by OpenTable. Pardon the pun, but they hit the nail on the head with this one! Outstanding food and service. My husband and I really enjoyed the experience and would definitely go back. The food is so good whether you're getting an appetizer, an entree, or any of the sandwiches. And the service is outstanding! Cannot say enough. Very well-managed. Friendly atmosphere!
The food was good. Good happy hour. Our waitress BJ was the best very friendly and gave honest opinions on food items. Definitely recommend and will go back.
We have been here several times and had great food and service. The food was cold and horrible despite our nice waiter having new orders made. The remade orders were still cold!
3 out of 4 of us liked our good. The Philly cheese steak sand which was not god. Too dry.
Debbie was an outstanding server. She will be the reason I will come back. I also want to try other menu items.
Father’s Day dinner
Everything was great except that your reservation group has made 2 mistakes in 3 visits. Don't like to be embarrassed when this happens!
We reserved to celebrate two milestone birthdays. We arrived at about 530 pm for our 545 reservation. Was seated right away. Waiter come to ask for drink order. Ordered just water for starters because we had no drink menu. It took a ling while for water to come then ask for a drink menu. Then that took a long time. We have been here several times too many to count. It was all u can eat shrimp night. We asked if we could get. Fish with the shrimp. The waiter said no. We all 4 ordered fish and chips. I always get one fried and one blackened. My friends get one fried and one broiled. The waiter told us we cant do that because it confuses the kitchen staff. So my friend got broiled and I got fried and we shared but I really like blackened but she doesn’t like the spices so I got the broiled. The fish were small pieces. They were somewhat dried out and just warm not hot. That is the second time we came and had food not hot.
The menu had changed and one of the food choices was no longer available. The other food choice I wanted was also not available. Not a good day at your restaurant.
the food was excellently prepared and the service was excellent....i would highly recommend this place to anyone that is discerning.....I am looking forward to my next visit....
Good good , good service , reservation worked out fine . Somewhat loud . Have larger variety of soup available
Took my brother and his wife to Old Bag of Nails for my brother's birthday. We went one day early to get the Wednesday all-you-can-eat shrimp. It was great. Love the shrimp and the batter. Our waitress kept putting in our order so we did not have to wait very long on seconds. She was friendly and very attentive. It made for a very pleasant evening.
Stood around at the host station for 15 minutes with a few other groups of people, and not a single employee would even look at us. I finally had to approach someone to come seat us. 3:45, and the place wasn’t busy at all. Then it took them even more time to clear a table, and actually seat us. No point to reservations I guess. Then a full hour to get our food. Slow is an understatement.
Good food. Our server Michelle was so helpful with suggestions and keeping drinks filled and making certain any and all requests we're met quickly and accurately. I'm confident that she couldn't be more kind and friendly in her own home. She knew to strike the balance between friendly and helpful without being intrusive. I'd asked that I be presented the bill privately and she did that very well. We will be back. Oh, by the way, there were 7 of us with one 4 month old baby. 😊
The service was really slow. But the food was good.
Maybe it was just an off night, but the fish and chips were not as good as they've been on past visits over the past year. I hope it was just a bad night, since we usually love the food here. The fried mushrooms appetizer was good, and large enough to share with several people.
Food was outstanding as always. Service was phenomenal! We loved having BJ-very attentive and entertaining!!! Great experience!
Out of a table of 7, 3 lunches were free because of either burnt or so tough, friends couldn’t chew! Server was gracious but so busy, had no time 2 ck on us! We arrived @ 11:30, took orders @ noon, food served @ 1:10!!
It was quite embarrassing as it’s one of my favorites & I recommended dining there!! Everybody has bad days, & this must have been the Chef’s!!
I reserved a table for 2 the same day. When we arrived we were greeted and seated promptly. The food was fabulous, hot and delicious! Our server was very personable and professional and knew the menu! We will be back.
Extremely limited options if you don't want fried foods or are trying to avoid gluten.
Food and service were average. Beer list was good. Allowed us to visit with our group without feeling rushed to turn the table, but we dined on a Tuesday evening so restaurant was not too busy.
Great place, had French onion soup was not good. Have had there several times and usually really good but this time it was missing something. Very bland. A friend also ordered it and his was the same. Other than that great place
The food was good but the service was better!
I appreciate our waiter David, he did an excellent job
Great food and service. Fish and chips are always delicious and definitely save room for the Carrot cake.
Great. Love the place. Best mushroom appetizer ever. Had wings with Sweet Baby Rays sauce which rocked.
Ordered Sauerkraut balls which came out promptly and were excellent. However, it took over 45 minutes to get our meals even though it was not very crowded. Then we had to search for our waitress to collect the payment for our meals.
Always good & consistent! Staff is friendly & the food is quality.
Food was good. The Seafood Platter contained a nice amount of food. The shrimp was a bit over-breaded. Fish very good. Onion rings we had last time were better, this time they had a lot of breading. Service very good. Will be back to try some other items. Maybe not the Seafood Platter or onion rings though.
Group enjoyed the entire event
Took awhile to get food, mashed potatoes cold so brought us dish of hot ones. However, none of the food was very warm. Since it took awhile we figured food was sitting before brought to us. We had previous good experience so was very disappointed this time.
The scallops were great. My husband had the lobster rolls they were very good. We should know we're from Maine!
We made a reservation through Open Table and the restaurant missed that fact. We had quite a wait for our table, but they did give us a free appetizer. The service and the food were both very good.
This was our first time at Old Bag of Nails. We truly enjoyed our experience. The food was excellent and our server was great. We enjoyed it so much we have reserved a booth for tonight (Friday, January 11, 2019) for us and another couple so they can try the restaurant out too. Happy customers! Will become one of our go to places for dinner.
Wait staff at our table was very good but first waited full 15 minutes at empty hostess stand with no one offering to assist. Line behind me was long - est 10 - 12 people and about half left during that time and others went to the bar.
