Food was excellent but the restaurant ran out of decaf coffee and sat us at a table we didn’t like and claimed they couldn’t move us but it appears that they could have. They forgot to put a candle on my friend’s dessert for her birthday.
Great food in a cozy setting!
Onion soup was fabulous, lamb outstanding and duck delicious
Had nice opportunity to have dinner with my daughter and everything was just lovely!
There are good things and some less so. The food and service was good. We had the creative crab cakes and calamari. The cakes were almost 100% crab meat. Tasty but a little dry as it was from the back fin rather than lump meat. The spinach and apricot puree was interesting. The calamari slowed down the service as we requested marinara rather than the sweet Thai chili sauce. That dish worked out well for us. Of particular interest in that it significantly improved out impression of the service was that the bottle of wine we ordered was out of stock. The server offered another which was a Sauvignon Blanc priced $14 higher for the price of the bottle ordered.
If you want a moderate noise level, request the upstairs dining room. Downstairs is adjacent to the bar and very noisy. Access to the upstairs is via an iron very tight spiral which may be a challenge for some. The parking lot could be better marked and lit.
On our way out we were given a $30 discount coupon for use in the following 30 days.
We arrived on a very cold night. The heat in the restaurant was turned way up. It was uncomfortably warm. Overall the food was very good. We had dinner for four for $140. I chose a salad for $14.00 along with my regular dinner. I never should have picked such an expensive salad. I should have split one with my husband. The final bill was more than I expected.
Great service, so friendly. Absolutely love how cozy this place is!
There is clearly a change in kitchen, the entrees were incredible, very much a material improvement over prior recent visits.
We used a Living Social deal, which was a great bargain. The staff was attentive and not fussy. The menu was extensive enough to have several good choices for my dining partner and me, but not so long that it was overwhelming. My partner had the scallops. He was disappointed in the vegetable puree they came with. I had the cioppino - delicious, spicy, five big shrimp, half a dozen tiny scallops, and nine mussels. I couldn't finish it.
Have dined outdoors several times but this was the first winter indoor experience. It was a blustery day but inside the fire was roaring and the logs crackling. The menu offered many comfort, take the chill off selections. We all chose something different to eat and we all agreed we made excellent choices. We were very pleased with the service provided by our happy waiter. All in all, a great way to enjoy lunch with friends on a winters day.
Went for a special dinner to celebrate a friend's birthday and New Year's Eve. They weren't quite prepared for the night. Service was definitely not worth the 100 a person we paid. Will be a while before we give this place another try. Food was good was the only saving grace or we would have probably left after the first course.
We had a lovely New Year's Eve dinner. The food, atmosphere and service was outstanding.
We went there for New Years Eve dinner, it was a fixed price menu with 4 entrees. You would think with that few choices they would nail it, but they didn't. The food was cold, overcooked, and bland, except for the over salted Haddock. The server staff was very rude. They were understaffed so everything was extremely slow, and we didn't get anywhere close to the right amount of attention to the table. We spent over $570 for the four of us and would have been better served by getting a really nice bottle of wine and ordering in Chinese. I won't be going back.
This is a restaurant in an old inn, just across River Rd. from the Potomac River and Great Falls Park trails. Great place to eat after a long cold-weather hike. Cozy fireplace and romantic setting. We dined for lunch, which we prefer as cheaper and more laid back relative to dinner here. The salmon BLT was delicious, as was croque madame sandwich.
Food was delicious but felt a bit like cattle during this prix fixe holiday evening. Courses were very rushed and wasn't asked if I wanted another glass of wine, my empty glass was just swooped away.
For dinner on Christmas Day the Inn was grossly overbooked. My companion and I arrived precisely at 6:00 pm, the time we had booked for. We were told that a table would be ready "in five minutes." We stood for ten minutes or so in a crowded doorway with freezing air blowing in on us. Then we were told that there was a table in a room upstairs, up a flight of "four stairs." We accepted that. We were not told that the stairs were outdoors and that there were many more than four. Further, when the door to the room was opened after we were seated, freezing air blew in on us there too. We were served without undue delay, and the first two courses were reasonably good, although not worth anything like what was charged. But the delay with the dessert was so long that my companion's back began to ache. There was a further delay in bringing our check, so that we could finally leave.
Awful. Walked out before even ordering. Had a reservation...but, still, 15-20 minute wait at the door and another 30 minutes (at least) just to get water at the table. Surly waiter. Mediocre menu. Restaurant was so PACKED with tables on Christmas, it felt like a fire hazard! NO WAY I can believe the Fire Marshall has approved that many tables/people for that space. SO disappointing because the front patio of the restaurant was ADORABLE! Take a picture and go eat somewhere else. The inside of this place was BEYOND horrible.
Never disappoints! There for Christmas dinner and it was exceptional. One person in our party needed assistance and the people at the Inn were just amazing in assisting him to and from the car. Highly recommend Anglers Inn!
Maybe I am not used to fancy dining. Went for Christmas dinner. Felt the valet & coat check was unnecessary. The main course - salmon - was really fishy and disappointing.
The new Chef Scott is awesome, visited the Dining Room twice to see how all of the guests were enjoying their meals.... First time in my 25 years of visiting there to have that happen
The hostess Seating gave best impression. We’d reserved online noting preference for window table. Lo and behold, we arrived to a full house but our window table was waiting for us. Food was excellent except for the pate for which the portion was very small. The price was higher than we expected, but, for Christmas Day lunch, perhaps at market price
Went for christmas eve dinner. Restaurant is very charming. Since it was a holiday, the restaurant offered a 3 course special menu with a fixed price. There was a variety to choose from for each course so everyone in our party found something to please them. The cocktails were good, the food was flavorful and the staff was very friendly and attentive, and the ambience was very warm and inviting. Overall, it was a great way to spend Xmas eve. The only inconvenience was that our table was located on the second floor and I had to negotiate a very narrow spiral staircase to reach it. Since I was walking with a cane after recent knee surgery it was a little bothersome but still doable. Would definitely go back.
We booked a fireside table for Christmas Eve at 6:45 and it went off with out a hitch seating wise ! Lovey decorations, super service , fun cocktails etc. Our waiter was very funny and attentive. The only thing that would put us off for another holiday reservation would prefix price also being used for children.
We have been here before and this time the service was awful. Our friends meal was served cold--they sent it back. 20 minutes later they got their meal but we were done. we could not get water, bread, etc. the waiter never apologized for the meal being served cold. and then we heard from no one. We spoke to the manager and he was ok but really did not offer up anything to take away from the experience. It was expensive for such poor service....
Food was very good, unfortunately the young waiter was cocky and inattentive. Service very disappointing.
Fantastic evening with a group of 12. Lovely table near the fireplace. Great food and wonderful service. A very special evening celebrating the holiday season!
Service was very slow. Food undercooked
We all ordered the rock fish. Fortunately, we ordered delicious acorn squash soup before the entree. Unfortunately, the delicious, well prepared rock fish came on a plate by itself (medium size) on a few pieces of spinach (hidden under the fish)--that's it. For the price, the plate should have added a potato or additional food--the dish was VERY MEAGER. I also noticed that our waiter supplied the table next to us with bread--we were offered none--the bread would have helped fill us somewhat. Honestly, I was hungry after a fairly expensive meal! Sitting by the lovely fireplace with very attentive staff not to mention the beautiful drive to the inn was very nice. They simply need to offer more food for the price--a lonely piece of med size rock fish on a few pieces of spinach, although very delicious, was also very disappointing. You should not leave an expensive meal hungry! Also, offer bread to everyone especially if you serve super small portions!
We made the reservation because there were numerous slots available on Open table but we were still made to wait 15 minutes to be seated. Staff were friendly and the place has a quaint, cozy colonial inn feel( meaning it’s small). Nice outdoor dining area with a fire pit but it was too cold to sit outside. Food was hit or miss. DO NOT GET THE CEASAR SALAD- it was a sorry looking plate of lettuce, a few croutons and dressing . The Mussels were good, Angus burger was ok but came with soggy fries. Overall a nice place with mediocre food and the worst Caesar Salad you will ever see.
There are times you have a meal in a restaurant that is so perfect, you reach Nirvana. That's me tonight at the Old Anglers' Inn. We found out later in the evening that they have a new (wonderful) young chef who just moved to the area..
I started with the seared fois gras with a lingonberry sauce and toast points. The waiter persuaded me to have a glass of sauterne to accompany the dish. It was an excellent combination, although I think Pedro Ximenez sherry would have been even better.
My rack of lamb may very well have been the best I've ever eaten, tender, moist, and sweet. It came with lovely asparagus spears and potatoes au gratin. Yum!
My husband was equally satisfied with his French onion soup and succulent bronzino.
We didn't get a chance to order dessert as the waiter came out with a complementary creme brulee for my birthday, a perfect rendition, and two spoons so my husband and I could share.
So between the perfect meal and the superb service I feel exceedingly well taken care of and deeply grateful..
Suggest getting black napkins too
White lint is not attractive on black pants
Mentioned it was a 65th birthday celebration in my reservation, but we were disappointed that there was no recogniton made of it. Appetizers were outstanding, entrees were good; dessert very good.
New chef came out to talk to visitors .. nice touch as we lingered over coffee
meal was very nice, wedge salad was excellent, duck and swordfish were very good, no dessert
lower level with cozy log fireplace burning, had not been for several years, we were impressed
Had a wonderful Sunday evening pre-Christmas Dinner with family. Enjoyed the evening so much! Great food and we could talk to each other. A true dining experience. Kudos to the GM. We will be back.
Everything was lovely at the restaurant but through this system my reservation was cancelled. That caused anxiety and a number of calls and messages to the restaurant. I did not cancel but your system screwed up.
Wonderful lunch by the fireplace on a snowy December day! We split 5 courses and a bottle of wine. Everything was delicious -- Duck confit salad, eggplant parmesan, mushroom pasta, swordfish steak, key lime dessert. Lovely setting, attentive service, we were there for 3 hours. Will go back again next year.
Intimate, old-world charm. Lovely in the winter with lights and a real fireplace. Lovely in warmer weather when you can sit outdoors around the fountain with music in background. A special place for special occasions.
We had a wonderful experience. The service was great and the food was delicious. I loved how the restaurant was decorated for Christmas. I would definitely come back again.
