They brought us a replacement wine and said they were out of the one we ordered. The bottle sat unopened for 5 minutes because they couldn’t find a corkscrew. The brought our entrees before the appetizer which they had forgotten we ordered.
I had fabulous memories of Old Angler’s from previous visits...what a disappointment. They should’ve reduced the price of the check but didn’t.
It was my birthday and I dined alone. I was given my choice of seating in the dining rooms. Ambiance was cozy and chic. Service was superior. Servings were large and delicious. Especially good was the bread pudding. Lovely afternoon outing.
Come here for the ambience, not for the food, and prepare to pay dearly for it. We had a bland salad and bland tartare to start. For entrees some plain pasta that the menu claimed was cacio y pepe and some very tough lamb chops. The wine was equally mediocre. It took over an hour to get our mains, with no apologies or explanations offered. All at an aggressively high, Michelin-star price point. There's too much good food and good ambience elsewhere around this area to go back.
Delicious food, expert service, wonderful experience. It was a bit noisy for my taste, that's my only complaint.
Great lunch with friends. Good food and selections for lunch and cozy fireplace. Really great cosmos!
Old Anglers Inn is a special place during the holidays. A very festive atmosphere! Our service was wonderful. Our server David BShan made our evening with his warmth, humor, and exceptional service! Ill be back!
We’ve been dining here for years. We had requested well in advance for a table on the main floor since my husband just had surgery and his leg was in a cast, so making it up the narrow spiral staircase would be tricky. The hostess was less than accommodating and informed us that he had to get himself up the staircase or lose our reservation. We’ve dined here over a dozen times and have never had such a snarky reception. Our server made up for the unprofessional welcome that we received as his service was attentive and the food was on pointe.
We had a wonderful, relaxing dinner. Not rushed, excellent service, food was fantastic. Loved the ambience. Thank you.
Very enjoyable, everything
A time-honored spot for a cozy meal with friends in a casual setting. The downstairs room is definitely the to-be spot - especially in wintertime with the fireplace roaring. Black-and-white checkered oilcloth tablecloths, comfortable padding chairs, and a traditional inn decor [old prints, candle lanterns, etc.] provide wonderful charm.
The food is well-prepared and tasty; we enjoyed seafood pasta, a hamburger, and crab cakes. The fries are excellent!
Service was good though a bit slow; it would have been nice to have the waiter stop by more frequently. Table service in terms of water in the glasses never faltered....
One recommendation - on a cold windy day, avoid the table near the door; it's opened all the time and the draft can be uncomfortable. No way around it unless the restaurant puts up some kind of barrier to prevent the cold from blasting in every time the door is opened.
It had been a long time since I last dined at Old Angler's and I had fond memories of the restaurant. I remember the food as being very good. I went there with a couple of friends this year for Thanksgiving, and it appears much has changed. While the atmosphere was festive, the food (at best) was mediocre. In fact, one member of our party sent her food back. Definitely not the restaurant that I remembered.
Much better than last Thanksgiving. Good dinner and good service. Very busy, but not as hectic as last year. The service team coordinated well and stayed on top of everything.
Service was hit or miss. We had to ask for water and utensils several times. Also, we were place right by the bar and there was a very loud, obnoxious woman at the bar. We asked for a different table, but the hostess never returned to either move us or let us know there were no other tables. Fortunately, the loud, obnoxious (clearly very drunk) woman left after about 25-30 minutes. Food was very good, although my filet was not cooked as I had requested it. I had to send it back. We have been to Old Angler's many times and generally really like it. I guess the lesson for us is not to return on Thanksgiving. It was too uneven for the amount of money we paid for dinner!
This restaurant is a tradition with our family. My parents came here on dates when they were in college. We’ve been here for birthdays, my parents 60th anniversary and just casual afternoons sitting outside after a walk in the toe path.
This was our first holiday and it did not disappoint. It is cozy, warm and the food was amazing. It was a little loud but it was thanksgiving. Our waiter, who was great, is actually the son of the owner but we didn’t realize it until half way through the meal. All around great place for any occasion but truly nice for Thanksgiving.
The Thanksgiving Day menu was very good overall; both the pumpkin soup and crab Louie appetizer were excellent, as was the filet mignon (both orders cooked correctly, good quality, tender meat).
While the food was good, the total experience left something to be desired. It was our first time at the restaurant and we were unprepared to be abruptly told to "go wait outside" (since there was no room for the other option offered, to "take a seat in the bar, " which was packed). When we returned to point out that it was 15 minutes past our reservation time, we were sharply told "we're very busy today." Well, yes, that's why you have a (badly managed) reservation system.
Great holiday dinner restaurant as the restaurant is very cozy and inviting.
Delicious Thanksgiving meal with lots of options for non-Turkey lovers (although mine was delicious). The fresh oysters for appetizers were amazing. And service was excellent. Happy choice for us as an alternative to cooking at home.
Oh wow. The Old Angler's Inn really know how to make Thanksgiving special. The menu was fantastic, the wine list perfectly complementary, the service great, and the ambiance--well, the Old Angler's ambiance is relaxing and welcoming whether for a special occasion like today or just a friendly drop-in after a hike on the Canal. Although we were seated immediately, anybody who had to wait for their table would have found plenty to enjoy--the big fire pit out front was roaring, the bar area was welcoming, the atmosphere festive. Thanks to all, and best wishes.
DAVID was our server and it was delightful to reconnect with one of the most gracious and service oriented servers that I've ever known. The food was great as was the ambiance, but I will return again quickly on any night that he is working!
Cozy and comfortable.
It's a terrific spot; especially nice with fire going outside but the downstairs' ambience really outweighs the upstairs. Upstairs is nice but in the winter, I would think the downstairs would be in demand. Service was a little slow but all and all a very nice experience.
The food and service were excellent. We were a little disappointed that they sat us upstairs which was nice but didn’t quite have the ambiance of the downstairs with the fireplace. Also the spiral staircase to the upstairs was narrow and definitely not for anybody with mobility issues. Next time, we’ll request a table downstairs.
It was my first time there, it was very very classy, beautiful both inside and out. The server was very attentive and professional. I had a Groupon and I’ll definitely be returning
Our second visit - again very enjoyable. The ahi salad, the trout dip, the creme brûlée - all superb. The cauliflower mac and cheese was fine, just not special.
Definitely recommend! Service started out pretty slow but got better through the meal. Love this place!
After valet car service we walked up to a roaring outdoor fire. It was beautiful.
Entered the Inn and another fire kept the room cozy and inviting.
Excellent service, delicious fish—salmon and swordfish. Great cocktails —it was truly a wonderful evening in a special place.
Spectacular food, great ambiance(sitting by the fire ) and attentive service
Perfect setting by the Outdoor Fire Pit, food excellent and our server attentive and could ask for better. Thank you
Excellent service and place
Outstanding ambiance. Food was good but not particularly inspiring. A better place for drinks than for a special occasion meal, but for the ambiance.
I had the rack of lamb and my boyfriend had the hamburger with foie gras. We also split a Caesar salad and surf and turf appetizer. The meals were great and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. Given that the meals are relatively expensive and the venue is historic, I would recommend different music besides disco. Other than that it was a very enjoyable experience.
The food is excellent and the atmosphere is cozy. We were meeting up with old friends from Europe and were looking forward to a relaxing dinner to catch up. I made reservations a day in advance and requested a table by the fireplace, which didn't happen. We were still enjoying our appetizers, when our entree arrived and the waiter without asking just took away my appetizer that I was still eating! Felt very rushed even though the restaurant didn't seem super busy.
I love the downstairs in the winter; the fireplace makes it a delight!
Bar often seems disorganized, unprepared and drinks are slow to arrive.
My husband’s birthday
Went for lunch. Great location to combine hiking with a nice reward. Wine prices ridiculous which is why only 4 stars.
Pretty relax atmosphere, and the dishes are right on par.
We enjoyed our dinner. From the French onion soup to the seafood pasta and the salmon entree, everything was delicious. Thanks for a lovely evening.
We returned to OAI to celebrate our son’s 18th birthday, and the staff did not disappoint. The service and food were outstanding. Highly recommended!
Old Anglers is the perfect spot for a post hike/post paddle meal. It's super cozy and relaxing. The food is "fine" and the wine is good.
