Ol' Mexico is an authentic Mexican restaurant and a Roseville staple for over 40 years. The large 700 seat establishment is perfect for gatherings both large and small and our private areas can accommodate groups of 30 to 100. House Margaritas are made fresh daily with our own recipe and our new food menu has been getting rave reviews. We have a recipe to satisfy almost every appetite starting with our famous chimichangas and enchiladas. Our taco menu features our new signature scallop tacos with corn and lime mayo, shrimp tacos with lime and strawberry salsa, and tacos al pastor.

Worked out perfectly for our small group who planned on sitting outside but whether was too cold so they found us a spot inside with plenty of space. Food was great and our waitress was amazing!

Small menu, service was terrible, they also added a non cash fee to the bill and when asked they said yeah if you pay cash we will remove it. Never heard of that in a restaurant also they should’ve said something before adding it. The waiter was annoyed by us asking him to explain the dishes on the menu. No wonder why the place was empty.

The outside patio worked out just fine for my daughter and grandchildren and the seafood chimichanga was too big to eat all at one time. Tasted really good twice.

OK but overpriced for the limited menu. Disposables instead of plates and glassware etc. made the dining less than it should have been

The prices were rediculous as the Chips and Salsa were $4.00 and not one mention of the cost when we ordered. The Sprite and Arnie Palmer were both over $3.00. Will not return.

Very disappointing. Paper plates and plastic silverware? Really? Shredded beef in tacos was so tough you could hardly chew it. Salsa served in cardboard cup and chips in a brown paper bag. No drinks from fountain, bottles only. Not necessary. Ate at Applebee's and Ze's restaurant and had real plates and silverware. You cut back on staff by eliminating table bussers and dishwashers and no longer have to pay to have table cloths and napkins laundered and, after saving all that $$, you raise your prices. I will NEVER patronize O.M. again under any circumstances. What a rip off!!!!!!!!! Shame on you, Old Mexico.

I think the ambiance was nice, the service was wonderful and you could tell they were taking COVID-19 seriously. Lost one star because the menu prices were high. They are located in a more run-down part of town offering 17$ burritos. Probably won’t return because I don’t want to pay a ton for Mexican that’s just ok. Great service and nice patio for drinks!

I met my sister who has not eaten out since March!
She was very nervous going to a restaurant. We ate outside for a 2 pm lunch. It was very quiet (as we wanted) and clean. Good social distancing.
We had a good server with a light touch. Our food was delicious. Between us we had chips and salsa-very tasty and plentiful - followed by a chimichanga for my sister and fish tacos for me. The tacos were great. Crispy fish with lots of lettuce and tangy sauce. I had a not-so -good strawberry margarita... which had an artificial bite. Too bad.
The bill was reasonable.
We are going to return. It all went well.
Thank you Ol’ Mexico!

A friend and I sat outdoors on the patio. It was set up nicely and very comfortable. The menu seemed rather small with limited choices. The food was good, however. One big disappointment was that chips and salsa are no longer included. They must be purchased separately. We did order them but were very disappointed. They were served in a greasy brown paper bag and didn't seem to have any salt on them. They were bland, to say the least. Other than that, the entree was good and would probably give it another try at a later date. Minus the chips!

Quality outing. We have long went and will continue to go again and again. They have moved to all paper and plastic products for the out door covid19 world. Not having metal silverware and glass cups is a bummer. I hope they can figure out how change back from that soon.

Our server was excellent. Very attentive and friendly. We were bummed with the limited menu (we all wanted fajitas), but they aren’t making them right now. The spicy margarita was delicious!
It’s a family favorite!
Thanks for the bday fried ice cream!!

Ol' Mexico has changed their menu and with these changes the prices have gone up and you are no longer able to get the chips and salsa for free....very disappointing to pay almost 30.00 for one person for a margarita (in a solo cup) and a chimichanga. I will not be going back there for a long time and I used to be a regular customer.

We recently survived a three month shutdown. Like many others we're trying to survive. Complimentary chips & salsa is something we've done since 1979 well after most of our competitors began charging for them. Covid forced us to reevaluate that. And $3 for unlimited chips & salsa seemed a fair compromise. Regarding changing our menu, we're still offering anything off one of our old menus to guest who's favorite might not have made the cut. We apologize if that wasn't communicated to you.

We sat on the patio, which has always been small so it was a little crowded, but they’ve invested in new, big umbrellas for nice shade. The new menu is excellent. I might miss a few old favorites ( and who knows, perhaps some day they will expand because everyone has smaller menus right now) but the new seafood options we heard were great really were. I LOVED my lobster enchiladas. Husband had seafood chimichanga. Server was excellent. Will be back soon!!!

The menu changes since reopening just didn't do it for us. No more fajitas, the shredded meat in every entree, just wasn't what is used to be. This new normal is hard.

Ol' Mexico
Responded on July 18, 2020

FoodieBootie, the new normal is really friggin' hard. The CDC's suggestion that everything be served in biodegradable paper plates and cups makes it hard to serve a lot of our old menu items including fajitas. We do serve pretty awesome fajita tacos though and it's unfortunate your server didn't alert you to those. And somehow you were provided misleading information that all our meat is shredded. We serve ground beef in almost all menu items. So sorry your experience wasn't positive.

It was so nice to eat at a restaurant again! The patio is lovely. I had the shrimp and strawberry-salsa tacos, a grapefruit margarita and the chips and salsa and it all tasted fresh and delicious. Our server was friendly and professional. I politely asked the host to lower the volume on the music he had just turned on (we were the only ones on the patio at that time and the speaker was right above our table) and he graciously complied. Excellent experience.

2 of us, patio seating, next to a party of 16! That alone should have been the main cue for us to go elsewhere but we were craving this place since they opened back up. Everything was served in cardboard containers, with plastic utensils....I'm all about recycling and being environmentally friendly but this felt more appropriate for a food truck in the parking lot, not a nice dinner on the patio. I raved about this place to my 16 yr old son but I think I heard him say Acapulco was better :-( Its been years since I've been here, first time was back with my parents as a kid in the 80s. Came here for prom and continued well into my 20's and 30's. Sad how things change, it's hard to find good Mexican food anymore, very bland, thrown in the microwave for so long the plate remains scalding hot, literally, while your food has already started getting cold. Even the chips were bad, greasy enough to soak thru the paper bag they were served in. The 2 things I did enjoy were the ice cold Corona's I drank for dinner.

Responded on July 5, 2020

It's unfortunate your experience was so unpleasant. We'll address a few things you mention in your review. The party of 16 was a group of non-profit volunteers who asked if we'd host their monthly meeting. We sat them at 2 tables of 8 across the aisle from each other. And the CDC suggested all restaurants use paper plates to combat the spread of Covid. It is not how we prefer to serve our food... paper plates present a lot of challenges. Please know, these are very different times.

Patio is nice. Server was great. There was one issue with our order, brought us 2 chicken burritos instead of a chicken and a beef. Apologized, brought us a new burrito as quick as they could, and let us bring the extra one home. More than made up for it in my book. The food was good, but I've had better/more authentic. Nothing wrong with it though. Prices seemed a bit high, but we've never been here before. Not sure if that's normal or COVID related. Didn't mind spending a bit more to sit outside with the family.

First time out since the lockdown. Waitress arrived with nose uncovered, needed to ask her to put mask on correctly.

Food served on disposable plates now. Paper menu, but they are reusing them.

Manager did not have a mask on at all.

Ol' Mexico
Responded on June 26, 2020

Kim, Thanks for visiting us as we re-open to the new normal. We’ve retrained our servers how to wear their masks properly and our managers have now been instructed to wear them as well. We apologize for any discomfort this may have caused you. While some restaurants are choosing to reopen with glass wear and plates, we have chosen to use disposable for now. As far as the menus go, I can assure you the paper menus are being thrown away after each use. We’re working daily to improve.
